It's been fun. Thank you for all the videos you made, it's sad to hear these news, but if it's it's for the best then so shall it be.

Sad to hear this Chris, but I completely understand. I've just read through the first of your blog posts - it beggars belief. I hope the nonsense is sorted out soon, and we can get back to working together making great software. Take care, and all the best for the future!

Thanks for that

@@ChrisMcDonough Thanks for all the videos you have posted. I am absolutely aligned with your views in the blog post, particularly the one about "Unacceptable behaviours, not Labels". In my opinion, you can call out a behaviour, but you can't just label someone. I am getting into Nix and enjoying it, but if there is enough friction I will go back to Gentoo - it has served me well for 20 years!

thanks you for great content , I am feeling same thing, this mess has destroyed everything, I don't understand why small project like Nix need so much drama

Aw man :-( I can’t tell you how invaluable these videos have been for me ! Many of them I have watched multiple times picking through every little gem of information. Anyway I fully get where you are coming from, I have been burned out more than a few times in my 25 + open source journey so I feel your pain. I know what a Labour of love it must have been to put together this excellent compendium of knowledge. Thank you thank you thank you! Come back soon!

Sorry to hear that, but I understand completely. I love NixOS, but I am working towards getting out of the NixOS ecosystem unless or until this situation resolves into something more sane.

Nix new-comer here. NixOS caught my attention a few weeks ago and I've read the PhD and reviewed community resources to see what the ecosystem is like before dipping my own toe into it. Im interested in the technology to solve some of my own personal development problems, and personally never intended to get overly involved with the community aspect outside of tutorials such as the videos posted by this channel. Ive read the first blog post and skimmed the second. It's a little disappointing to hear about the current state of the community. With the context out of the way, my question is: Should anyone like myself be wary or temporarily hold off on learning Nix-as-software for the timebeing (e.g. is the software itself in a compromised position and not worth investing time to learn until it's stable again)? I get the impression that the technology is still very valuable, just that the software itself may be at a turbulent point in its development at the moment.

Definitely keep learning! Whether or not Nix-the-brand keeps its value, the ideas in the software are the future.

Chris, appreciate all the work on your videos; I've learned a lot. I read your blog post on the recent drama.... all I can say is thank goodness the Linux kernel has Linus as BDFL, but I hope the folks that write the code that make Nix/Nixpkgs/NixOS great will continue to write their code, and the people who want to turn it into some kind of political statement can do whatever.

If you don't believe it, its seizing the means of computation. It's seizing the levers of power/reality. It's the boiling frog metaphor.

Sad to hear this, what a circus this whole mess has been.

I felt that the Microsoft analogy had the opposite effect than that which you intended. "Live and let live" in most applications, purposes, walks of life, etc. I am not surprised there was an insurrection, tbh
