with what cap? you have 16m in cap. 6 free agents.....and 5 of those free agents are suspected to stay. Its reported pesces looking for 7+ dont see it happening. If i had to take a guess.....he lands in boston. they have 30ish in cap. After those free agents are signed youre looking at like probably around 5m in cap left. carolina offered pesce .5.5 m a season last summer. he said that wasnt enough.

id much prefer the devils sign brenden dillon 2.8x2 trade for a legit top 4 Left shot Defensive defensman ship out siegs than ship out marino and over pay pesce to be a borderline 3rd pairer for us outside of maybe this upcoming season x-hamilton hughes-marino dillon-nemec i like zadorov but is he a top pairing guy? ( hes had like one season over 19 mins in chicago) skjei will get overpaid and every one else id say isnt really a big upgrade so i feel like that last defensive peice needs to come via trade i have no idea the availability of these guys but im hammering for guys like jonas brodin marcus pettersson kaiden guhle etc however i realistically think that making playoffs will not be a problem so id atleast maybe see if siegenthaler can be the shutdown guy we all remember he was and if hes not just go for a D at the deadline. i think adding physicality and veteran leadership throughout our forward core and finishing that out is the most pressing issue for this offseason sign stamkos 6x3 trade whatever is takes for lawson crouse sign carrier 2x3 sign perry .975x1 stamkos-hughes-meier crouse-hischier-bratt palat-haula-mercer carrier-lazar-perry siegs-hamilton hughes-marino dillon-nemec markstrom allen every line has atleast one tough "sandpaper" guy thats annoying to play against + there is 4 and possibly soon to be 5 cups added to the roster with those moves

also on another note marino was an incredible defensman up until last season where he wasnt even bad he was just ok, id say last seasons performance from marino was more a product of a bad team plus just bad decisions made by lindy. the guy was so good with luke and lindy just kept playing him with bahl when that pair would repeatedly not work. marino was forced to play more of a puck moving role due to the injuries instead of being the shutdown guy to bail out the puck moving defensman.

Honestly we don’t have the money or at least shouldn’t overpay. Pesce is a monster and would be great but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll land him . Gotta go with someone a little more under the radar and less costly. Big Z and honestly that Jokiharju from Buffalo ain’t bad

This would mean Marino is getting traded. Id prefer to put a new dman on the left side and get rid of Siegenthaler. If Pesce can do that, great but i think he's strictly a RHD. I'd take him on this team in a heartbeat regardless IF the money is right. If he demands crazy money then go after one of the cheaper options like Hakanpaa from Dallas. Give Hattaka a chance too. Zadorov would be awesome but he wont be cheap for sure.

If Fitzy can get him at an affordable cost, then I'm all for getting Pesce. However, I think another team is going to throw a lot of money at him and that's where he's going to end up. I know I reflect a lot of people's opinion by saying that Zadorov is my #1 defenseman target as not only would he fit exactly what NJ needs on the backend, but there was already mutual interest before he got traded to Vancouver. He might be easier to sway towards coming to the Devils and shouldn't cost a fortune to get him.

@@runninwiththedevils I can't remember exactly what interview or whatever it was, but I know it was from a reliable source, not just some random media person trying to make up stories. From what I remember, when Calgary was going through the motions to trade him, NJ was one of the teams brought up that expressed interest and Zadorov was willing to go there if the trade was made. But it ended up being Vancouver that was able to make the best offer to Calgary at that time. But now that Markstrom is a Devil, maybe he can help convince Zadorov and/or Tanev to come to NJ.

I like Pesce replacing Marino, but the added salary, even with a swap out, is a concern - especially when NJ has a more pressing need at LD with an active opening. I'd be happy to acquire Dillon or Walker bc of that, while also contributing some grit. Skjei would be great, but lacks the sandpaper, will cost a lot, and is the bell of the ball. Lots of good RDs out there 7/1, though - we'll see what Fitz does.

Hatakka was good in a really limited sample size, I liked what I saw - but the Fitz talk has focused on getting the D more experienced, which wouldn't fall in line with Hatakka being 3LD on a regular basis. Luke played both sides in college/USNDT, true, but RD is his off-hand. That can factor into systems and how opposition plays him more at the professional level than what we typically see and talk/worry about. I'd prefer a natural LD, that's why I listed those players, but any improvements are welcomed all the same. Ace, are you referring to Hatakka, (hopefully) Zadorov, or someone else?

For me, looking at that list, it's still Zadorov, Dillon, Pesce, Skjei. I know he'll probably resign but it would be funny to steal Lindgren from the Rags. Hakanpaa is a big dude but I haven't seen him enough to say what kind of player he actually is. Matt Roy looks like a decent player. How do you feel about Dumba? He has some sandpaper but teams keep trading him around.

Drury put goodrow on waivers and the sharks claimed him so they free'd cap that way.....and words been going around (few different nhl anaylsts have reported this) that drury is not done and to expect massive moves and big names to go to NY. Pesce would be such a good addition but I have a feeling that so many teams will be in on him that he's going to sign a deal that is worth more $$ than he might be worth. Our top end should be be around 5 75 mil a year for Pesce. He is a solid D man. But he isn't an intimidating hitter or offensive contributer. If we are paying 6 mil or whatever, I want Zadarov out there rag dolling guys.

Pesce would not be a mistake. I just consider him an option. I believe our future success comes from brutal shut down defense with fast forechecking and high scoring offense, backstopped by very solid tending. The pieces are coming in. I will see what Fitz puts together.

zadorov is amazing and arguably just what this team needs however he has never been a top pair defensman in his career and im not paying him 5+ to be a bottom pair guy. if we want to add that snarl in the back end brendan dillon is my number one target, statistically a very good defensive defensman who can also put up some points and add that much needed snarl for almost half the price of zadorov
