4:20 *CAB CAR 5146!!! EXTREMELY RARE!!!* This unit was wrecked in a Head-On Collision at Secaucus Junction on February 9th 1996 and scrapped. You may have caught the only known footage in existence of it.

Well, I believe there are a few rebuilt Comet 2s still around, but unfortunately, all the Cab Cars are deactivated and are used only as Blind Coaches.

A Colorblind Engineer mistook a Red Signal, which caused him to run past it and collide with another train. Thunderbolt 1000 Siren Productions has a whole video on it.

As I said, one train was misled by misinterpreting a Red Signal. He was supposed to pass only after the other train had passed.

I hadn’t been around for several years when this video was made. By stating I still had to even be born just years later, I find this video to be quite interesting to learn about NJ Transit’s early and probably most successful days of the average person going wherever they could go on a NJT transit train.

Because the electrification ended here. In 1988 they finished electrifying the whole line.
@cookode
@cookode 9 жыл бұрын
+Tony & Tony V. Well no, before 1987 the electrification was extended from South Amboy to Matawan. But it had to be after 1983 because they still had the engine change at South Amboy in GG1: An American Classic which was filmed in 83. However, not even the whole line is electrified today. The electrification now ends in Long Branch and the line ends in Bay Head. Long Branch electrification was completed in 1988. However, NJT can now offer one seat rides from New York to Bay Head using electric power with the new ALP-45DP dual power locomotives, which can either run as electrics under catenary or as diesels on non electric lines.

@emilyindri1836
@emilyindri1836 3 жыл бұрын
I would assume the transfer between locomotives was what held trains up at the time. Since they don't have to do that here anymore, the northern part of the line has cleared up. I haven't ridden the NJCL all the way down so I couldn't tell you is Long Branch is backed up the same way.

No problem, I think that would be even better for the E60's due to them being built for heavy trains.
@jvmilanesi
@jvmilanesi 10 жыл бұрын
why were they swapping e60s for f40s?
@BritanniaPacific
@BritanniaPacific 8 жыл бұрын
That's easy. The wires ended at south amboy. During the days of the Pennsylvania railroad, as soon as the GG-1 arrived from New York City, it was swapped for a steam locomotive. It soon changed to diesels, and nj transit continued it until the late 1980s when electrification of the line was officially completed.
@NEFeldman
@NEFeldman 6 жыл бұрын
All through trains to Bay Head from New York-Penn Station required the engine change right up to late spring/early summer 1988 when the electrification was completed to Long Branch. In 1983, the North Jersey Coast Line was electrified up to Aberdeen-Matawan where all Arrow Electric MU’s could terminate where there used to be a small yard there virtually replacing half of South Amboy Yard. Now, there are small traces of a yard that once existed at South Amboy. However this did not effect trains that either terminated at Newark, or Hoboken.
