NOTE: Just to avoid confusion, I DID watch the entire show, but only chose to comment on the matches included in this video. I did watch the Shibata/Goto match, and it was very hard-hitting and intense, but honestly, it's hard for me to remember specifics about it because I was pretty tired by this point and stopped watching live after this match.
Brian Zane does his first-ever NJPW review! Watch as Brian gives a rundown of the matches from Wrestle Kingdom 11 that really stood out in his mind and made him feel like a new fan again, including the insane Okada/Kenny Omega match! Post your thoughts on WK11 in the comments section below!
NOTE: The following matches are not talked about, but they were still solid!
*NEVER OPEN 6-Man Tag Team Championship Match
*ROH World Championship Match
*NEVER OPEN Heavyweight Championship Match

What caught my attention on the Tiger Mask W match was the girl accompanying Tiger Mask W. For the uninitiated, she's the voice actress of Tiger's manager/crush/childhood friend, Haruna Takaoka. Girl's name is Suzuko Mimori. Too bad the English commentary doesn't mention her name, though. She was also seen in the Japanese commentary seat during the Tiger match. And she also happens to know some english too due to she wants to settle in Singapore (lol) The Cody - Juice was a bit fun, especially with that cannonball spot, but well, it's not a really good match either... And also if only NJPW World can get the rights to the music, especially for Honma's, that would be really good.

Man Okada vs Omega is such an Incredible Main Event. My favorite spots are the Dragon Suplex off the top rope and Omega faked a Rainmaker with a High Knee that sounded brutal as hell! Just gonna throw this out there, I met Scott Norton, back in the 90s when he was associated with the nWo, but he was friendly with fans and just all around an awesome person, he teased being heel with a few other wrestlers but was still friendly with fans. The thing I took most from the show was it really brought home how over-sanitized WWE is in comparison(helped massively by the excellently laid back english commentary). The matches they put on were so much more visceral. Everything at Wrestle Kingdom felt like it had meaning and consequence, and told an easy to follow story. It felt like a massive event.

Oh yeah, man, WK11 is gonna be hard to top, just like the last 4 years! (I'm sure that makes me an elitist prick with a bias against mainstream wrestling or something, but whatever NJPW does far more good than bad these days). And I'm sure I'll be the absolute first person to tell you this (totally, definitely, positively), but Japanese wrestlers cosplaying as anime characters has been a thing for nearly 40 years. It's how Jushin Thunder Liger and the first Tiger Mask came to be.

I loved Wrestle Kingdom 11 and I think it's going to be show of the year because you can't top the quality of matches WK11 gave. The thing that the show did right that WWE struggles to do is keeping people into the show because there are always 2 to 3 matches that'll drift you away from the event. Saying every match is great and awesome doesn't give them justice. You did leave out and that was the Never Weight 6 man tag 4 team gauntlet match which I enjoyed watching the match. You also didn't mention the Never Weight championship match with Shibata vs Goto which I think they put on a great match with their strong styles. I give Shibata a lot of respect for competing with all the tape he had on. Other than the matches you missed to mention my favorite match is already MOTY Kenny Omega vs Okada but thank you for reviewing WK11.

First Wrestle Kingdom I've watched and I loved it! Took me a week to finish it. Kashida & Takahashi was the match of the night for me! Closely followed by Shibata & Goto! Okada & Omega was great and definitely hard hitting but had too many false finishers for me. Plus i didn't think it told as great a story as the other two. I've watched very little of NJPW but this had me hooked from start to finish and I want more!

Brock busting Orton open at Summerslam had me shocked, but thinking "I wonder if that was planned or not... huh, hope Randy is okay." Two or three spots in Okada vs Omega made me think they had legitimately killed each other. Especially the two spots to the outside. That's the difference we're talking here. NJPW's big shows are the best wrestling on the plane right now, the consistent quality of in-match storytelling is unparalleled. Also, I appreciate you not going for the sort of click-baity move of calling the main event the greatest match of all time. I personally do think it was the best match of all time, but in just being appropriately complimentary of the match, and not even stepping into the debate, you kept this a really honest review that fans of the product can watch and appreciate, and also won't make WWE fans get defensive.

The Omega and Okada match was a thing of beauty. Honestly, I could show that match to a non-wrestling fan and I know they would definitely find something in it that they would enjoy/be amazed by. At one point I thought Okada broke his neck after Kenny did that suplex(?) off one of the turnbuckles. And that table spot that Kenny took outside the ring was absolutely ridiculous. These two men left their heart and soul in the ring, and I sincerely anyone else will be able to top their performance at WK11.

Wrestle Kingdom 11 was amazing, the matches on this show are technically better than 90% of WWE stuff I see today. First time I see a PPV where all matches have clean finishes. No DQ or count-out shit!

Great review, Brian. Did you watch Shibata v Goto? Wanna talk stiff? Those headbutts looked nasty?!

I've been a fan of NJPW for quite some time, and I can honestly say that's the best show I've ever seen from them, G1 shows included. The storyline with RPG Vice was that Rocky had been costing the team matches, so it made his final stand against the Bucks more meaningful. Okada-Omega was the greatest match I've ever seen. Not only is it an absolute lock for MOTY, but Meltzer has already started calling it the best match of all time.

Okada-Omega was a great match but I do not feel it was the best match of all time. If this is the start of 2017 it is going to be a great year for wrestling.

Hello Brian! I was just wondering if you could review the short lived Lucha Libre USA promotion! If I am not mistaken it is still on Hulu, so if you have that you can watch it. I know Mark Jindrak was on the show, if that is a draw.

Marcel Robinson - I agree with Dave Meltzer, it may be the greatest match of all time. I freaking loved it!!

The last few years, I had been collecting original ECW ppvs to get my wrestling fix, as the WWE product just inspires yawns anymore. I watched WK11, and holy fucking shit, I was hooked. I really hope Kenny Omega DOES NOT go to the WWE. He'll just get buried there, as he's not VKM's creation. :/

Did you skip Shibata vs Goto? it was the second best match imo

It was the second best match. And if you want to talk about stiff, well that is where Shibata lives. So solid.

Brian made a great point. The style difference between NJPW and WWE is completely different so trying to compare the two is basically irrelevant. If you watch New Years Dash the day after WK11 you'll see how many of the stars were truly banged up from the night before.

i LOVED the whole show, if you don't ever watch the product imagine an independent show but really well produced & funded. i really thought omega was gonna win but at least YES his terminator entrance was better, could that have been made for HHH to see maybe a nod in his direction?
