NXT Takeover: The End was another fantastic show from start to finish. Solid in-ring work by all talents performing on the card, great storytelling, and overall just phenomenal booking by the NXT creative team. Triple H obviously knows what he's doing with the NXT brand. I hope Vince McMahon and the WWE creative team on the main roster are taking copious notes.

I loved Takeover Dallas, but was slightly disappointed by this PPV as the matches are getting too formulaic at times (like WWE's main roster). i.e. finisher, kick out, shocked face, now your finisher, kick out, shocked face, now the super finisher for the win. American Alpha are incredible and the highlight of NXT for me. It's great to see real tag team wrestling again and someone doing actual wrestling moves and throws rather than loads of stiff kicks and stamps that are becoming way too common. But it was still a decent PPV, great stars, production values, entrances and costumes and nice to see clean wins! NXT is way superior to WWE's main roster right now.

Well I completely disagree with you about Nia's scream, I thought that was a really epic moment! And really unusual too. You're suggesting that if you've got the energy to scream then you've got the energy to get up but if you think about it that's not true at all, nowhere anywhere near true. Takes a LOT more energy to move your entire body out of the way of an aimed strike like that when you're beaten down to within one move of a match loss. People can still scream when they have almost nothing else left in them. It was such a "defiant to the end" moment, one I really identified with, such a great bit. Left Nia looking much stronger than she otherwise would've without it, and also Akusa a tiny bit more ruthless for the lack of hesitation - just kicking her head off anyway. Such a brilliant end to the match. I don't know that I'd like to see more of it, however. It's one of those things that ought to be rare in order to work. Here it was, and I felt that it did. Edit: Actually now I'm beginning to wonder if the disparity between our interpretations could be down to a size difference. I'm an unusually large woman, much in the same vein as Nia. If someone is smaller, maybe it is that much less energy-sapping to move out of the way, or hell even that much more energy-sapping to scream? I don't know. Could be a factor? Kinda makes sense... just a thing that occurred to me after typing this response.

This was the first time I have ever seen N X T because with Monday night raw and smack down and main event those of the three shows I watch . I just never found the time , but I was interested in seeing the cage match . I always enjoy cage matches what I saw was really surprising to me . Here I was watching a WWE show it that didn't start out with a 20 minute promo it was just entrance and wrestling as I was watching it I thought to myself , look what I've been missing . I'm just so happy that I got to see a show with matches that had clean finishes and that was one of the best tag matches I've seen in years . The whole show was awesome and you know something else . It reminded me of being a kid because when I was a kid I used to watch wrestling and I would always be upset when it was over because I wanted to see more that's the way I felt at the end of the show and I haven't felt that way at the end of raw or smack down or even a pay-per-view in the years before I said I never watched because I never found the time and now after seeing this show I will make the time I enjoy your reviews you always do a good job . Regarding the screaming in the Asuka vs Nia match. That meant A LOT to me. The timing of when Nia did the scream showed that she was at the very end of her effort, a desperate cry of defiance, the last roar of a dragon in desperation to summon every ounce of energy she can muster but fall short due to "speed" kicked to the head, the vital strike of the sword that came to conquer and destroy.. Remember, when Nia screamed, Asuka also screamed just as loud in retaliation, which made the entire "this is it!!!" moment absolutely insane and feel even crazier, almost reminiscent to some sort of epic anime. So, it is all fantastic as this was all before Asuka completely took everything out of Nia with that last very sinister and painful running kick to the upper chest. Remember that prior all that, Nia received some crazy blows to her head and body, and Nia's reaction, both selling and sometimes for real, demonstrates the striking power of Asuka who legitimately does hits insanely HARD. So yes, I was super sold on everything as I completely "got it", it was a frigging awesome match in everyway, and I hope you now see and understand it too. Asuka was awesome, Nia was brilliant! F**king fantastic! It's true what you said, this match is the FIRST match where both women actually moved to hard-style fighting, and this gives Nia so much more credit that potentially shot her to the NXT moon, way above many other women NXT stars. No way Becky, Sasha and Bayley have and can fight to that level of hardness, which makes it even more amazing to Nia being strong enough to do it. Gosh, remember that Guillotine counter into a perfect suplex? Remember those nasty powerbombs? Asuka took two of them together with that insanity rag-doll 360 toss half way across the ring. NO other women ever took and delivered anything like that in WWE so all that was awesome to see!! Of course, we know very well that hard-style is Asuka's (Kanako) specialty. Fantastic bout between them - 4.6/5 stars. Re-watchable many times over for sure!

I gotta say I think there was a good amount of 2-1 action in the tag match. There was a lengthy period there where dash and Dawson were repeatedly working together to keep Gable from making the tag. Jordan looked helpless while Gable was taking a full beating from both dash and Dawson. I think they actually made pretty good use of the 2-1 element with that bit of the match.

Hey Zane, I agree with your assessment of the event. However, I think this is a time where (no offense at all) you aren't a big guy who has never been in a fight. As a man who is 6'4 and 280lbs, the spot with Nia Jax makes so much sense to me. It was a moment of "Come on little man, is that all you got, you think you can beat me, keep bringing the heat!" Then The stronger kicks come and the giant has been slain because she underestimated the strength of the little woman...which fits both of their characters. However, Jax could've pulled that bit of psychology off better. She is still young.

I'm sad that Asuka gets a shit ton of hate on Twitter and KZbin videos. She's by far the best female wrestler. Take her match with Nia for example it was good with some great spots and both people came out of it looking a hell of a lot better. Now look at Bailey's match against Nia, Bailey just hugged her neck for 10+ minutes until she fell to her knees. Which was so fucking boring.

Everybody gets hate on social media whether they deserve it or not...unfortunately 90% of the human race are assholes and think that there is only right (meaning you agree with them) or wrong (meaning you disagree) they don't understand that entertainment is purely subjective. For example...I respect and understand your opinion on the Bayley / Nia match, however, I loved the whole psychology of it because of the realism...could Bayley out-strike Nia?...hell no, could she overpower her on a take-down? not a snowball's chance in hell, could she sink in a guillotine and put her to sleep?... yep..because if Nia tries to power herself up she expends more energy and goes to sleep faster, if she tries to slam down, she DDT's herself.

this was an awesome event, all good matches and I actually really loved the promo they did at the very start chronicalling the start through to the 'end' of NXT showing Rollins and Paige winning at the first Takeover and significant matches till the present. My biggest gripe with this was the awful camera work in the cage match. Was anyone else feeling nauseous from the quick camera changes and EVERYTHING was show though the cage!!! why wasn't there a camera view diagonally down from the top??? seeing everything thru the cage was very distracting and just fucking crazy!!! its hard to tell whether the main event was good or not cos I could barely see it!! wtf was with the camera in the final match?

I'm going to point out a couple things that you missed that I feel need to be mentioned. As I'm sure you know, Austin Aries has been called "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived" for a rather long time, between ROH, TNA and wherever else he's been the last few years I don't think it would really do any good to change that for him in particular. Same kind of point with Shinsuke Nakamura and the King of Strong Style name. As far as one spot that I personally really liked, that also looked really scary and solid like you mentioned some of the spots in the women's match were, was the spot from Joe hitting Balor with an enzuigiri kick on what looked like either Balor's back or the back of his leg where both were on the top rope and Joe fell flat on his back while Balor fell between the ropes and cage. That almost looked like he wasn't supposed to fall there to me, but it worked out and looked devastating either way.

I disagree with the yell, I saw it as the beginning of a comeback getting shut right down. The only other thing I would have liked to see would have been a double foot stomp off the top of the cage but I get why it didn't happen.

well, i'm not sure the scream in jax/asuka was supposed to be thought of that deeply. when it happened, i figured that it was asuka literally stopping the monster's comeback before it could even start. so, more of a credit to the power of that kick, than matter of nia jax having that much left. but that's just me, and i'm just a regular dude lol

Two promotions that might have helped launch TNA. And those both came in 01 and one of them even lasted till 03. They are the XWF and the WWA. The XWF was led by Jimmy Hart and Brian Knobbs among others, and the WWA was based in Australia. But both in my opinion did not get a fair shake but to me lead the to the birth of TNA. Since your proficient in pro wrestling I think its long overdue for you to do videos on these with your opinions.

I usually agree with most of your spots, but have to disagree with the 'wasted motion' point. That's classic storytelling 101. I mean, you could argue if Shawn Michaels had the energy to crotch-chop 'Taker before the Tombstone at 'Mania 26, then he could have struck him or done something. It's an act of final defiance. Character building. You know you're finished, but you still have to get the final word in. I think it works, and it enhances Jaxs' character, personally.

Nice Review. A bit surprised you're not more familiar with Tye Dillinger since he's on NXT quite a bit. Agreed with alot of what you said but for me, the main event was a let down. Getting past the point of no blood, which i understand given WWE PG, there wasn't much suspense to the match. I could tell both guys were going to kick out of the finishers and there weren't any other threatening near falls. This is WWE's fault not Balor/Joe. WWe has conditioned us to only expect pins from roll ups(school boy) or finishers. If sometimes one of the other signature moves would beat someone, there might be more suspense when they pin them. The finish was really cool and I can't say there was a single match that I really didn't enjoy, save the main event.

This was a great show. But the main event was underwhelming. I dunno if i was drained from the other matches or what was the case. But Fin vs Joe just didn't deliver as well as it should have(definitely the worst of their series of matches). I love the Alpha/Revival match. They totally stole the show. But i didn't like the reintroduction of Paul Ellering. People in the crowd chanting "who are you?". They could've had a graphic or had him come out with his old jacket and Sunglasses. Cause without the gimmicks, he looked like Stone Cold's evil brother. Asuka vs Nia. Great match. Love the finish. Nia screaming and taking the finishing blow made sense. Cause, the idea was that Nia was "trying to no sell" the kicks" before falling to her doom("Pride comes before the fall"). I just wish Nia would've won the title. Cause she'd have much more challengers than Asuka. Plus, Asuka can be free to move up to the main roster while Nia elevates babyfaces. Cien vs 10. I enjoyed Sombre here. But he needs some tuning. I'm glad it's not like it was 10 years ago(where, people would debut right away on the main roster). Am sure in do time Cien will have a good spot in the main roster. Tye is getting over. But, i wouldn't want to push to the main roster. He's like the perfect staple for NXT. But, if they had to. I'd say bring him up in a couple of years. Nakamura vs Aries. Fantastic match. I'd say the match told a better story than Nakamura/Zayne(even though that match in Dallas was a bigger spectacle). At first i thought i missed an NXT show cause Aries was taped up. But then as the match went on i thought "Waw, this is the first time i've seen this kind of storytelling". Aries knew he couldn't beat Nakamura. So he had the built in excuse of "i wasn't a 100% and i still took you to the limit". So they can have another match down the line(which i have no problem with at all). This was pure old school wrestling at it's finest. I love this match so much. Kudos to Aries(finally got to see the old Aries from 2010-12). And to Nakamura(the best entertainer in wrestling today).

I think Nia Jax is a monster heel's backstory rather than a monster heel. She makes mistakes anytime she faces technical offenses, like failing to counter a smaller wrestler's rear naked choke with a suplex (a mistake she avoided this match); this time, she made the mistake of imitating Asuka's intimidation tactics without understanding the specifics of their application. So, because I found kayfabe rationale for the spot, I wasn't bothered by Nia Jax screaming.

I'm curious why Nia Jax gets a pass on not selling. I get it, she's big and tough, but that doesn't mean you don't sell. She just walked right through a kick to the knee. I don't care how big you are, you're going to feel a kick to the knee. I really do feel like she has a lot of potential, but her practically being invincible gets old. Aside from my Jax rant, I really agree with you on all you said. It was a really fun show to watch. Now I just hope we can see some one else in the NXT Championship picture. Nia has had enough chances at the belt too in my opinion.

I actually think that Paul Ellering was 18 years too early with that gimmick! It practically IS the Era of The Web now, what with the Internet being essential for life, what provides the WWE Network on which is NXT! A true visionary if there ever was one! "Look at them Corey Graves, they are kind of sort of twins!"

Brian how do you feel about Triple H's interview after the show about NXT officially becoming WWE's third Brand and no longer a developmental area?

Solid NXT special tonight I enjoyed it, missed the debut at first of the new guy though I wish they had Hideo come out at the end saying it was Balor who attacked him last year and put him out since he's close to returning at least build it up to Brooklyn so they fight.

On the tag match, you say about the spots being double-teams. But then say you'd be happy if it was a 1-on-1 spot, or a 2-on-1 spot; surely the latter would be considered a double-team?

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought that Asuka vs Nia Jax finish was wonky. It didn't make me believe she could win that way.

Aires has been "the Greatest Man to Ever Live" (or whatever) for years now, back in TNA and stuff. I agree it's overused in WWE, but it's also the gimmick that made him the star he is, so it's also valid for him to want to hold onto it. If they're creative, they could book a pride-based angle of a multi-way rivalry of various guys trying to prove their supremacy.

And speaking of Roode... I hope they can get James Storm in again, so Beer Money, Inc. can rise above just being in TNA.

I really thought this show was above average. the 2 nitpicky I have are 1. the camera work really distracts from the match. for some reason I didn't notice on nxt until tonight. yes i do know wwe does this on ppvs and on raw but never saw it too much in nxt.instead of the match, im noticing the camera cuts which at times are missing moves in the match. the cameras during the cage match seemed the worst. 2. see has to get out of full sail. I like an energetic crowd but this crowd really distracts from the show. it's like the crowd has to get their chants in no matter what's going on in the match. I feel it's disrespectful to the wrestlers putting on a match when your distracting it.
@CinderGamer8 жыл бұрын
I actually really like the crowd chants, they seem mostly relevant, and the commentators seem to roll well with it. It's also nice to hear an actual organic crowd.
@Davehhhh8 жыл бұрын
+CinderGamer well I'm glad you do. I have seen several times on tv where the crowd decides they will turn their back to the match to do chants and run around rather than paying attention to the match. for some reason the full sail crowd started to get worse after last yr after they lost a few nxt takeover shows to London and Brooklyn. to me the worst was when bayley in a tag match last yr and the crowd chanted random stuff and the crowd missed the finish. I'm not saying they can't chant, I'm saying pay attention to match and don't distract from it.

Cage matches are tough for camera work because there is a cage in the way.

At least the cameramen in NXT don't zoom in and out and shake the camera like crazy.

whats going to happen is reigns retains by screwy finish to maintain heat wether heel or unover face then rollins wins at next ppv then ambrose cashes in after setting up a shield triple threat for summerslam either that or hhh returns to cost rollins rollins turns face builds up to challenging wwe champ either reigns or owens/cesaro. Aj wins first match with cena but getd buried following matches getting stuck in midcard and eventually knocking miz off for ic strap

Tye Dillinger really is the Jobber to the Stars for NXT right now. But he's a very talented one. He does feel a lot like Tyler Breeze in the last few months before he left to main roster. Also Brain, how much do you watch NXT? Dillinger has been on a lot of Takeover events and on the show too.
