This is a gorgeous Bible! Especially for the price! It’s because of you and Skip Heitzig that I have been enjoying the NKJV. The translation that I consider my “go to” is the ESV, then the NASB, but I like having several. I just ordered this Bible. I like having room for notes and I need a larger font! (part of getting older 😉) Thanks for this review! As always it’s very thorough and well done!

Awesome review! I also prefer goatskin that isn't too floppy. Another ESV that I love the size of is the Large Print text edition from Crossway. I love the idea of getting reviewers in a room to talk about Bible design. I'll be there. :-)

@@BibleBuyingGuide I love your videos, they look really good! I love the fact that your lighting is strong and allows for a sharp image. My lighting is always a bit weird especially since I moved to our new home. I miss the natural light I had coming from different angles, so I'll eventually just have to adjust better with artificial lights. I also bought a new camera that arrived this week... I had to sell a few Bibles for that 😭🤣 But I'm excited to try it out since it's a bit of an upgrade. I'm a total amateur when it comes to video, but I do love it a lot as a hobby.

@@crucified4me thank you!! I love your videos too! You'd laugh if you saw my setup. My Galaxy S8 on a cheap mount, a $5 mic, a couple of desk lamps, and a standing lamp with three bulbs. I've taped paper to a few of them to create defusers. I love the written reviews as a hobby. The video takes more work for me, but that's just me being an introvert.

@@BibleBuyingGuide Well, your setup may be simple, but it's working super well! If you can do all of that with a phone and a few desk lamps I can only imagine what you would do with higher equipment. I love to write too, but life's just been too crazy... Video does take time and work. Everything I learn is just by watching KZbin videos on my spare time 😆 I did receive good counsel from a friend who is a videographer concerning which camera to buy but all the rest is really KZbin :)

It is an awesome Bible and has a lot going for it, but I agree that the space in the gutter and top is too limited for a Wide Margin Bible, or at least for what people normally expect from a Wide Margin. Some are loving it, others are not. I'm sure Thomas Nelson will probably come up with different options in the future. I would love to see a thiner/smaller Bible, with margins and gutter the size of these margins... One can dream 😉

The one I have is not Premier Collection, so the paper is only 32 gsm compared to the Premier. I have heard it said you can have 28 gsm paper that is good for highlighting and writing notes in the margins (I believe it was someone from Schuyler that told me that about some of their Bilbes), but from my experience, I would not want anything less than 32 gsm paper for writing and highlighting. The NKJV Large Print Wide Margin is great for that, even the imitation leather edition.

You're also right that for a Bible this big you really need the edge line on the cover to support IT. Thanks for pointing THAT out. After evangelical bible IS out of stock so much of time.... Nelson and Zondervan HAVE kept me going. With PREMIER bibles.

The Nelson new King James version wide margin is in 10 and 1/2 Point FONT and it is very very nice and it is very very legible and easy to read

Just watched all your videos on NKJV wide margins (thank you so much!) and while I agree non are perfect, this one seems to be the closest there is right now. Would you still agree? Are there new contendors? Etc. I love the Cambridge but the font is just too tiny. The single column looked amazing but no line matching. The Sovereign seemed great but just poor quality construction... Which leaves this one that doesn't have big center margins, but has very nice text size... I think this one with a 9.5 slightly smaller font and more center margin would perhaps be the best, or 9.5 and single column with just outside margins. But these are all we have to chose from right now and I'm itching to get one.

Hi there, pretty spot on! If I had to choose a wide margin right now it would be this one, for sure. I'm sad that publishers don't see the relevance of having a Wide Margin with the dimensions of the ESV Heirloom Wide Margin, that is out of print... I also reviewed that one, just wish I had an NKJV exactly like that 🙏🏽 Anyways, thank you so much for watching and for reaching out. Again, I agree with everything you wrote 😉 This one is a bit big, for sure, but it's an awesome Bible. I like the 36 GSM paper it is thicker and feels nice . I know that 28 GSM is meant to be more expensive but it is rather thin I know it's rather nice and I know it's rather expensive but 36 would be my choice if I had to choose and I guess I do choose every time I buy a Bible so when I can buy Nelson with 36 GSM I'm not as inclined to buy Schuyler with 28 GSM.

Which Thomas Nelson NKJV single-column did you buy? The Premier collection black leather, the Premier collection brown leather, or another edition? They vary a little. Since that Bible is so thick the spine is a bit awkward when you open it up. Some love it, some don't. The black leather on the Premier Collection was much more flexible than the brown one and gave the Bible a very loose feel. I traded that one for another Bible and currently have the brown edition that feels better to me.

Great review. I agree that it’s not for me. I would prefer 9 point font with margins all around. Beautiful Bible though. Your reviews keep getting better and better. Keep it up 👍 I have one that I think is pretty close to the perfect set up that may interest you. Now, it’s not NKJV, but it is more than portable-borderline small (even for a non-wide margin). 8.5 super bold font that reads like a 9 or 9.5. One inch margin on top, one inch margin on the bottom, one inch in the gutter, and one inch outer margin. It is verse by verse center column reference... What other boxes are there to tick? It is the CBP wide margin cameo midsized. Important note: Some of their wide margins have different layouts, even in the same size and family. At first glance, you think only the color is different, but no, it’s page lay out too. ISBN 120RL C1BL. It is the perfect layout for me personally, and I think you and I are looking for the same thing. Edge lined and leather for $65. You can only get KJV though. I look forward to the next video.

@@crucified4me Yes, that is the one. I forgot--CBP just raised their prices a little bit a few weeks ago. My apologies. They sent an e-mail out to their subscribers announcing a price increase, so that makes sense it is $70 now. The NKJV is my favorite translation, but the KJV is my second. This Bible really is the perfect layout for a wide margin. I don't know how they managed to achieve a small Bible, that is extremely readable, is verse by verse, and has wide margins on all four sides. It's like the bent the laws of physics.... :-) The text block/layout (I don't know the proper terminology is from 1920's too). I too wish they had this in NKJV. I very much want an NKJV wide margin, but what I want isn't on the market. I think the closest thing right now is the Cambridge, but when the Schuyler comes out, it will come closer, I think. I prefer verse by verse for notetaking, and the idea of my daily driver being a giant Bible doesn't excite me. This blue wide margin cameo is the perfect hand held size, in my opinion, for a wide or non-wide margin Bible. God Bless. :-)

Ideally, I would have this Bible with slightly smaller font and with a higher GSM like 32 or 36. But I've learned that I cannot have everything I want :) Blessings 🙏🏽

Hi, I have been waiting for ages to hear your reaction on this Bible. After seeing one of your reviews saying all you needed was just a little more gutter space; after seeing a picture on Amazon of the interior set up I thought you would love this Bible. I was so excited for you. Oh well😂. It wasn't for me. I really was hoping this would have been set up like Thomas Nelson's wide margin from the 80's, just premium with comfort print😌. That was centred, black letter, centre reference. Sadly it wasn't. I ended up getting a Cambridge NKJV wide margin in calfsplit. It's not large print or verse by verse,or black letter for notes which I prefer but it is stiff enough to take notes on your knees or hold. I have been pleasantly surprised by it. I only wish it was centred like there KJV. It's a great Bible. I do enjoy my Thomas Nelson Thinline for reading. I was excited this was verse by verse.

I think many of us students and preachers of the Bible have similar thoughts and requirements. It should not be difficult to create a premium Bible (NKJV), leather cover and binding, verse by verse, with bold 9.5 to 10.5 font, with adequate margins on the inside and outside of the page. Those who design the print layout should really consult with those who daily use the Bible for study, devotion and teaching. Just some minor adjustment of this NKJV would really be superb.

@@crucified4me It's horrible, I ordered 2, a kjv and nkjv. Save your money. The margins are less than an inch and the paper is ruined by cockling. It had massive potential because it has 40 gsm but the margins are not as big as you would think and the cockling is out of control. Moreover the quality control is next to nothing as they were literally coming apart. I can show you on Facebook. Check your pms. I am on the hunt for a wide margin nkjv and it looks like Aquila is my only option for huge margins and premium paper. Which is sad because I like the color and font of the Nelson, just not the layout. It seems all of the NKJVs like the KJVs have a lot to offer but every single one of them lacks something the other doesn't. I think I am going to have to make my own. I think it's cockling, where the paper has this feel to it like it was left out in the rain and got damp and dried incorrectly. It has this wispy feel to it like too much air is trapped in the paper, very spongy also if you press on the block. It's sad because it had potential. Unfortunately it's not just me and everyone I know that ordered these has cockling. Mine is extreme. To be honest, if this is what to expect from moving to India, just go back to China because this is unusable in it's current state.

I think some people just find reasons to complain about everything, like the cockling. We are so blessed in America to have so many options and yet some people complain about even the smallest things. Even the best end-of-verse reference Bible don't have all the cross-references that I can find for any given text. Cross-referencing is essential in serious Bible study. Not all people will make the annotations in their Bibles, but it works for me. Blessings to you!

I think if they removed the entire 120 pages of the concordance, they could put that paper to much better use...either to add a few more blank sheet for note taking, or just to lighten the weight of the bible, or to get a wider gutter. With technology nowadays, who really needs a concordance? It's so old-fashioned. If I want to find a verse with a specific word, or find out where 1 word is written throughout the whole bible, a simple google search on a smart phone would suffice, and both biblehub and biblegateway shows you all you need to know. I really hope the publishers wisen up to this and eliminate it. If not in our generation, then I'm sure the new younger generation which is much more tech savvy will let them know eventually, and hopefully have it removed.

Yes, I hear you. I personally never use the concordance at the end of the Bible nowadays. Like you say there are way better options. I think it's just so traditional to have a concordance with a reference Bible that publishers probably feel the need to put it in and maybe there's still a demand from some consumers. Good question. They are out of print and it should be hard to find one. You may ask around on Facebook in some of the Bible groups where people buy and sell Bibles, perhaps someone has one or two that they are willing to sell. One option is to buy a leathersoft edition and if you really like it have it rebound in the future, there's some excellent people out there that can make a Bible like this look outstanding.
