NKJV Study Bible - Does it Measure Up to the Hype?

I have this study Bible in the black leather soft. It is my “go to” for studying and even my carry bible for church service. The notes are extremely thorough and the maps are so vibrant and helpful. On the rare occasion that I can’t wrap my head around something, I love my J Vernon McGee 5 volume set handed down from my grandfather.

I have the 2nd edition of this Bible in a personal size. Instead of the references being between the commentary and text, the 2nd edition has them between the columns.

Nice review. I like how leathersoft bibles look (in general). But, and thinking about study bibles, do you think they are more durable than hardbacks (when these are also sewn of course)? I've always found hardback covers more convenient for big books.

For me the main problem with this bible is not having the words of Jesus in red.

Why? All of the Bible is Christ's words. I don't know who started that practice. But it really does seem it has trained people to think that those particular words are somehow more "inspired" or relevant than anything else in the Bible. That's just not biblically accurate.

That looks like a great Bible. The only thing I would change is, I would take out the references and footnotes. I just don't think they're necessary in a study Bible. That's what study notes are for. Just my opinion.

I also just purchased the NKJV Leathersoft verse by verse Encountering God Study Bible in a rustish-brown color, w/a leaf-like (?) design on the left side of the cover & spine. Now that I look at the cover design, I think they are flames of fire. It is a very nice study Bible w/a focus on Encountering God & uses Encounter Note text boxes, Word Study text boxes, Character Study text boxes & Historical text boxes throughout the Bible. It's 2 column w/center references & notes at the bottom of the page. Words of Christ are in red. There are glossy paper maps in back, a concordance, Prophecies & Fulfillments, Biblical Timeline, Harmony of the Gospels & an Index to Special Features like the Character Study boxes. It's a nice size study Bible w/9 point comfort font & the bottom of the page notes aren't too small. You might want to check it out for a review ! 😊 There is a Foreward by Henry Blackaby who recently passed away Feb. 10 @ the age of 88. There are also Book introductions. I am a minister, Not a KJV reader at all! But to be honest, the best study Bible is the KJV. I wish there was a better translation with the KJV study Bible notes because they are excellent- much better than the NKJV notes hands down.

5:56 - That's interesting, because the KJV Study Bible (which is also by Thomas Nelson) doesn't take the view that the sons of God in Genesis 6 are fallen angels, but are rather sons of men. I personally go with the fallen angels view myself, although I do know that Christians disagree with me on that, which is fine.
