News laundry did a great job inviting the two guests. The interviewer could have done a better job extracting much more meaningful input from them however. Clearly, mr.ranga Nathan was out of his depth. The guests were much willing to talk about real issues and policy questions while the interviewer kept veering off the topic the moment it touched on meaningful content. Panama papers, private company corruption...the interviewer seemed to focus on popular myths rather than talk about ground realities. Just as a contrast, news laundry's previous interview on swach bharat was much better where they actually talk.about the policy issues and practical.challenges. you can see in this interview too, the guests want to speak and share how things are really done but disappointing that the interviewer was not well prepared.

Newslaundry should put a disclaimer in the description As the Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council, Bibek Debroy has a direct point of contact with the PM Narendra Modi. On the other hand, in the NITI Aayog, he is subordinate to its Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant.

What was Bibek Debroy speaking. People would have sat up on Cash!! How could they ? It was just waste paper !
@NikhilKaushik11096 жыл бұрын
I believe what he is saying that people would generally expect the deadlines to change, hard policies to be withdrawn after public protests etc. So in earlier times, people would have sat on the waste paper hoping that government would withdraw the policy after few days and things will be back to normal. Not sure if this argument is valid but as a tax consultant I can say that this time (Nov 2016) people were really sure that government will not buckle and hence money came back despite a decent portion of it being tainted.

Dude has 12 years of experience. (10 years in consulting in Transport Infrastructure+ 1 year at GE at a role which is not discussed), calls himself a "sector expert" and is happy that "sector experts" like him can now enter government. The Transport-Infrastructure "sector expert" then goes on to advise Government on railway budget, financial year change, simultaneous elections etc. and then goes on to work for EAC. Everything that is wrong with our system! With 7 years of consulting experience in Oil & Gas infrastructure, declaring myself a "sector expert" and making myself available for hiring as a deputy director at RBI in 3..2..1.

Given an opportunity everyone can justify their position and stand on issues.But as one of them used terms like gross and net,grossly this government did some little good,but net result is no delivery in terms of wealth distribution,and judisterial reforms.

Not only will it disappear...it will evaporate.Google up Block chain and Cryptography and then crypto currencies.
@terminator61996 жыл бұрын
Also google all the scams happening around blockchain. In the end it will all be regulated by the very same people that run governments.
@varunwagle6 жыл бұрын
That is what crypto promises. But don't jump to conclusions based on a single bull run of Crypto. The tech will survive, but it is governments which will control it all. Regulation will be necessary as always is to prevent scamming of the masses in general.

Wasn't a good job by Ranga, let Debroy off the hook multiple times without any follow-up questions.

I was a subscriber of newslaundry but having followed ranga uncle and anand vardhan on twitter, i was put off. Now i m back to being a muftkhoor.

I also do not agree to a lot of what they say, specially Vardhan, but don't let that stop you from being a subscriber.

Bhavin Vora NL hafta forces me to think and question a lot of my beliefs. Thats a good thing. However, i m prevented from conversing with them because i have not subscribed to the higher package. That needs to change as it leads to frustration.

This hierarchy which newslaundry has created amongst its subscribers is unnecessary and frankly unfair. I want to be a subscriber and i want a conversation. But i m being prevented.

Massively dumbed down debate. People, all of us don't need to be simpletons or incompetent if we have one for our PM. Grow up.
@amitkhtn6 жыл бұрын
Piyush, Do you think electoral victories are a measure of worth of a leader? By that account- Duterte, Marcos and Chavez are/were great leaders!! Closer home, Indira Gandhi was a better leader than Rajaji whom she defeated in '67, and Sonia Gandhi was a better leader than A B Vajpayee, whom she defeated in 2004 and many more examples.Elections are far bigger and more complicated processes, involving large socio-economic factors, than individuals. BTW, I would also like to know how you came to know about "who I cheer"? Or what delusions or "my cause" are you referring to?PS: But only if it can be done without resorting to profanity!! :)
@amitkhtn6 жыл бұрын
I must compliment you on your spirited and un-profane reply. In the same spirit, I would like to submit that my point was not dis-similar to yours- we cannot engage in stereotypes. Although you are coming very close to the stereo-type by dismissing a careful point as Ivory tower analysis. Let's stick to the argument.
@amitkhtn6 жыл бұрын
"Measure of worth" is only subjective to the extent that history is subjective. Also, your point about the comparisons being repetitive, well, I am happy to give many more examples - Naidu vs Reddy in 2004, Laloo vs Nitish multiple times in Bihar. I'm simply picking recent examples to address your point of current Indian polity. However, the slight of hand you displayed in dismissing the early examples is not justified either. More Importantly, I agree with you that he cannot be defeated by not being honest about who he is or what he represents. Here, the opposition is failing to appreciate the fear of Global Islamic radicalism. But, that does not mean Hindu fundamentalism is the answer. Especially, as incompetent a variety as this one.
@amitkhtn6 жыл бұрын
Btw, I would also agree that we have a very poor quality opposition. We deserve better.
@amitkhtn6 жыл бұрын
Piyush, You assert that you don't want to be stereo-typed but you are repeatedly accusing me of being one. Also, you are skirting pretty close to the stereo-type on at-least two counts - by changing goal posts and by starting to shout. Caps and assertion do not make an argument. What I mean by "simpleton" is in the same way a quack is a simpleton. I have no doubt that he is a wily operator and understands the psychology of the subject well to exploit them, but has no understanding of the true nature or complexities of the real problems involved or willingness to take the effort to solve them. A good analogy would be like trying to treat chronic diseases by mantra, taveez or exorcism. The problems of this country require deep understanding, systemic changes and sustained investment of political and human capital; not Rambo-styled surgical strikes like demonetization. That's the reference to simpleton, not proficiency in English. Nor do I care much for Shashi Tharror, who in my opinion is very capable of lying and a sycophant. Nor was I suggesting that political leaders are not wily operators, but most of them are simpletons (in the same sense mentioned earlier), with a few exceptions like Nitish and Naidu.
