What is the difference between this George 2 and the George fcc
@NLKMediaGroup Жыл бұрын
Good question. The George 2 is the EU model and the George FCC is the USA model. The George 2 is expandable and can be set to cover all of the EU norms and also can be set to export mode by modifying which increases power and frequency ranges. The FCC model is fixed to US frequencies (which match CEPT frequencies) and has had the option to expand the radio to export mode removed (to the best of my knowledge). The FCC model has US weather alerts built in and the EU model does not have this feature as its not available in EU. I do not have access to the FCC model to be able to test and compare but these are the main differences I am aware of. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and commenting. All the best MJ7NLK

@@NLKMediaGroup I appreciate the info I will look into that . I have a couple nice HF Rigs for 10 and 11 meter SSB , but just once , I’d like to own a non-drifting sideband cb . I do have a new Truckerized Anytone-6666 that is rock solid , also the 955’s are as well but I don’t own one . I also have some older Grants and 148’s that are good , but I want a new style CB that’s actually stable on sideband. Until you’ve been down the rabbit hole financially trying to achieve that , you don’t understand the frustration . I’ve spent 1500 bucks , probably more over the last few years , buying modified and clean tuned export and other new type cb radios that turned out to be great on AM , and very disappointing on SSB . That’s why I finally just bought a few low mileage HF Rigs from some Ham guys when I came across a good deal , with the Mars mod already done . @NLKMediaGroup Жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, the Richard is a great radio but it does not have single side band. I am not a fan of loads of multi function buttons and much prefer the dials and knobs with dedicated functionality. I have more than 30 radios and it makes it very difficult when switching between them to remember all the different options and key combinations. They did a good job on the George 2 with the face plate and it is quite easy to work out where the options are but a few more dedicated dials would have been nice. This is where the Lincoln 2+ comes into play. My goto radio is the Richard but the Lincoln 2+ does offer more than both the Richard and the George 2. If you have a HAM license and want SSB then Lincoln but if only for CB then the George 2 is the better option vs the McKinley. Happy new year to you and all the very best for 2024

I have not heard of anyone not being able to access the factory services menu. What happens when you press F and TB at the same time while also pressing and holding the push to talk button on the microphone (all three held down) and you turn the radio on while they are all being depressed? Do you see the while screen that says Test? If you do, then you have a very limited amount of time to release the buttons you were pressing and then press NRC button and release, then press Echo button and release and then press Vox button and release. (three button presses, one after the another, your not pressing and holding). My radio is Version 1.0 which is the original release so can't imagine that yours will be an earlier version than 1.0.

I just got my new second President George II shipped from the EU to the US & I think it's much better but the UK 40 channels not used here & hear SSB on it. My other President George F.C.C. can not be expanded so it's just the EU 40 channel mode which is the same as US & Canada. You need to add a second final to make the radio 30+ watts otherwise it not go that high. Only other mod I would like to do on both radios is unlock the clarifier so I can slide more easily talk like 3 kHz off center as many do here on SSB. Downfall is the President George F.C.C. is made in China (to be expected) & the President George II is made in France or Belgium which was interesting.
@Optimus217911 ай бұрын
Wrong mate. The original concept for both radios was engineered by President in France. Hello, very interesting video. Very informative. But how is the device switched from CB mode into export mode after modification? This will not be explained in the video. Thank you and greetings from Germany
@NLKMediaGroup9 ай бұрын
Hello, sorry for the delay in responding, I am a bit behind on comments. Once you expand the radio the traditional CB layout is changed into band blocks. Starting at Band Block A, then B, then C, etc. Each block has 40 channels (well 45 if you include alpha channels) and you navigate through them in the same way. Switching to band block A will start at channel 1 26.965MHz and run through to Channel 40 at 27.407MHz. Switching to band block B will then start at channel 1 27.415MHz and run through to Channel 40 at 27.855MHz, etc. Band blocks A, C, E, G, K and L are inferior and band blocks B, D, F, H, I and J are superior. Total expanded frequency range is between 24.715 MHz and 30.105MHz. Band blocks don't run in numerical frequency order. Inferior starts highest A = 26.965 to 27.407 and L = 24.715 to 25.155 and the superior is B = 27.415 to 27.855 and J = 29.665 to 30.105. It can be confusing but when viewed in a frequency piramid it kind of makes sense. I hope this helps explain things and thank you for watching and for commenting. All the best MJ7NLK

If it came to the george 2 and the richard? Need me a new radio, local shop says they can sell a richard that does about 70 watts for 300 usd, granted the george is 75 more usd, can it do the power the richard is capable of?
@NLKMediaGroup9 ай бұрын
The Richard is a great radio but it lacks single side band. The George 2 is the better radio as all bases are covered. It just depends on what you want from the radio feature wise. They are both great but having SSB will make the radio you choose more future proof. All the best and thanks for watching

The most important feature of the george 2 you never spoke about is the NRC for RX and TX. This makes a new experience in Receiving, you can hear small stations in the air you never heared before. The NRC can filter bad background noise nearly to zero to hear a station which you lost before in the QRM. On the TX side the NRC can help if you have background noise during your transmission in a car or at home the NRC block this unwanted noises. You can adjust the NRC in 5 Levels on both side RX and TX. Try it out and you will be impressed believe me! And with some SMD change you get 50 Watts :-) and the radio never get to hot.

I will give the new NRC feature a whirl, thanks for providing the info, very helpful. Happy new year and all the best for 2024

Hey Edward, SWR is how much of the signal being pushed out the antenna is being reflected back to the radio. in order to test you should not have anything obstructing the antenna, like standing next to it. most of the time high SWR is down to kinked coax, damaged coax, poorly fitted 259 connectors or something close to antenna reflecting signal back. I have also seen issues with magnets affecting testing if you have one close. please check all of these things and let me know how you get on. all the best MJ7NLK

I’m a rookie is this cb for truck drivers or does it need to be modded
@NLKMediaGroup5 ай бұрын
It doesn't need to be modded, it is for anyone who wants to use CB radio. The modification expands the radio so it can pickup and transmit on other frequencies outisde of the CB band. It also increases the power output on the radio but this can be controlled using the RF Power settings. The legal limit for CB is 4W which is what the radio is set to out of the box. The George 2 is a very capable CB radio and one of the best on the market today. The Radioddity CB-500 and the Walker 2 are worth a look if you don't need SSB. If you just starting out then maybe the CB-500 would be a good place to start, its fun and easy to use and has lots of great features and is significantly cheaper than the George 2.

I have seen someone in Germany offering a mod for the George 2 which adds a board and switches between modes by pushing the PTT button. You can check it out here www.hamradio-shop.de/Modifikationen/president/george-switch-mode.html Interesting idea and much better than drilling holes to add a manual switch. Food for thought. Its rather confusing with the CRT radios as they just keep releasing the same radio, in the same box but a different revision. I have a .6 version of the 6900V and when the .7 version arrived it looks identical in every way. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK

The Roger beep is one of the most annoying non-features of any radio. I guess it is added so that the ones who use it can perpetuate the bad taste CBers leave for the rest of the entire radio community. Make an impression and use your roger beep. I’ve known a couple of Hams who used it, but it didn’t take long to change that. Great video and explanation. I enjoyed it.
@NLKMediaGroup11 ай бұрын
It's a running joke on the channel. I am a ham and everyone in that world hates roger beeps so I almost always set the roger beep (tonge in cheek) and say its an essential feature (irony) and always needs setting. I never use a roger beep in real operation and yes they are very annoying :-) Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for commenting and for watching. All the very best 73 MJ7NLK

Roger beep is ok for cb. On a noisy frequency you can at least tell when someone has unkeyed. The most annoying and useless and should be illegal are the echos, sound effects and nonsense that made me give up cb!

the Presidents seem expensive compared to the Anytone rigs which offer the same features and a lot more power
@NLKMediaGroup Жыл бұрын
Anytone make some nice radios and they are well worth looking at. The Anytone SSB offerings are 10 meter out of the box but can be expanded to 11 meter although not legal to use on 11 meters. CRT are also worth a look and the 6900V is a nice unit but again its 10 meter out of box. I am told that the .7 version of the 6900V has the same PCB as the George 2 and is a lot cheaper. I need to get one and find out for sure. Thanks for watching and for commenting. MJ7NLK

I am sure you have tried everything on the radio and it does sound like there is a fault. However, turning off Talk back and VOX and then go into the menu (long press PUSH key) and look for VOL ACC and see if that maybe is turned down. Failing this perform a Reset in the menu and if its still not working then unfortunately there must be a fault on your unit. I hope this helps and do let me know how you get on with this. The new President Washington is now available. Its effectively a George 2 but 10/12 meters out of the box. It looks the same as the George 2 but does have one big change. It doesn't have the same heatsink on the back, instead it has two holes for cooling fans (sold separately). On the box it says 80W :-) I have the Washington on the shelf for review but haven't received the two cooling fans yet. Thanks for watching and for commenting. All the best MJ7NLK

Instead of "DCS" there is "DSC" (mis)printed on the front panel. And in the display "MHz" is written "Mhz". After all those years President and their OEM manufacturer should know better!
@NLKMediaGroup Жыл бұрын
You have a good eye, I didn't spot that myself. Its strange, because all of the promotional images of the radio have DCS but my radio has DSC and so does the image in the user manual, not sure how that could have happened. You can excuse Mhz on the LCD as sometimes you are restricted on what you can display in certain places but the DSC item is most certainly a quality control issue. In the user manual, item 6 says Memory ~ CTCSS/DCS ~ M2, so its right in some places but not others. The USA manual has it correct on the image so it seems to just be the EU model. Thanks for pointing this out. All the best MJ7NLK

There is much simpler solution: just cut the white wire in the middle and add a 25 Ohm resistor or four 100 Ohm resistor parallel without changing the jumper position 😁.

Who the hell wants 4 W radios anymore, when you've got a lot of the bigger companies expanding to hundreds of Watts like Ranger??
@NLKMediaGroup8 ай бұрын
4W is the legal max in most areas for type approved CB radios. The Ranger units that ship with 200+ watts are 10 meter band radios for HAM frequencies. You can still have lots of fun working a CB with a well tuned antenna if you don't have a HAM license. The UK regulator (OFFCOM) have just revised the HAM license power limits and increased the foundation license from 10W to 25W, Intermediate up to 100W and Full up to 1000W. It does seem crazy when GMRS radios in the US can go to 50W without having to take an exam. Thanks for commenting and for watching. 73 MJ7NLK

Good point but I guess that depends on your own circumstances. If you have a ham radio license then you would be putting it at risk if you got caught. I do not know how active Offcom are with enforcement. The FCC are so strict on approved units in the USA and insist on the export mods being removed. However, the US breakers just run massive amplifiers. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
