Most of the NMB RT-101 "Right Touch" keyboards use rubber domes, but a look at the full model number will tell you the details: T indicates tactile key switches (usually rubber dome) while C indicates clicky key switches (usually Space Invaders); W indicates the presence of Windows keys, and + indicates a "big-ass" Enter key.
@Chyrosran228 жыл бұрын
Yes, although many RT-101s don't have extensions in the name. The FCC ID can help out in those cases, as NMB registered quite a few for different versions of the RT-101. It's weird to think they spent more effort coming up with FCC IDs than they did for model numbers xD .

Very cool keyboard, love the switches! The name is very accurate, they looks like little robots which are working for you. Slaves under the keycaps. I can feel how heavy the space bar is! As always great video, made in professional way. Thank you!

I'm thinking the "space Invaders" design would make a good basis for a low-profile mechanical switch, especially with the way the caps mount to them.

Woaw.😮 Matrox made some kick ass graphics cards back in the day. Nowadays millennials brag about hooking 3 monitors to their Radeons but Matrox pioneered that tech waay back in the 90s. They tried their hand at gaming but never really made an impression so they focused on editing instead. Business was good till people figured out how to flash their gaming cards into their workstation equivalent. Good times.

Rockerito aka KeyHopper I haven't tried Topre no, they are too expensive for me to buy, and there's no chance I'm going to find one as a discard. I'd very much like to try them, but the chances of me running into one are quite small I think xD.

Where do you get all these keyboards? Ihave went to every thrift store and recycling centres inside 20km radius and i havent found any old keyboards.
@Chyrosran228 жыл бұрын
It's an over time thing. You need to tell the guys at the recycling centre to keep an eye open for them, to keep them aside. It might take a few weeks before you get anything. Visit regularly so they know you're serious about it. Be nice and friendly to them so that they aren't just doing it for a total stranger. Bring cake. Etc.

@@Chyrosran22 Sad this probably won't work in today's climate. Keyboards have shot up in price the past 5 years. They might wonder what you're up to, check on ebay and see that they're selling upwards of $100, then demand like half the price or something.

I somehow got an RT8255CWE+ from my church in 2010 for free. The split space bar is interesting for an easier way to backspace, but other than that, I love it. Prices on eBay were about $150 a few years ago. I wouldn't take it to any one's house that likes peace and quiet, but for knocking out a near 30 page short story, I could think of few keyboards I would rather use.

Great vid as always! I came across a couple NMB RT8255s (one w/ a win key and split space) and I'm considering linearizing one by removing the little clicky arms, inspired by your AT101W tactile alps mod. Thoughts? I know you weren't particularly fond of the Hi-Tek 725 w/ linear space invaders but that seemed mostly due to the non-stabilized keys.
@Chyrosran228 жыл бұрын
The Hi-Tek was pretty decent actually, it had its cons but the switches (and the board) were solid. Linear Space Invaders are well-respected linear switches :) .

Awesome keyboard. The colourful keycaps are a sight to behold. PBT & dye sublimation? Yes, please! I wish I could get a hold of this type of keycaps, somehow. Problem is I type on AZERTY keyboards, not QWERTY. I know Topre makes aftermarket keycap sets in nice colours such as lavander and orange, though I think they're pricy. You could buy a couple of those and mix & match to create a similar look. There's also a rare Namco branded Counter Strike keyboard from Topre with multi-coloured keycaps. But I don't think any of those were ever made in AZERTY, so I don't know if I'll ever get hold of something like that.

I just bought one of these online and the picture looked quite dirty. It's still in transit so I'm not sure how it feels yet. Any tips on cleaning these switches?
@Chyrosran226 жыл бұрын
Space Invaders switches aren't particularly happy with dirt. It's best to get boards that are clean to begin with. You can clean up some dirt without having to disassemble them, but if it's bad you might have to take apart the switches. This can easily damage the switches or make you lose springs though so I'd be careful :/ .
