NMDR New Property in Missouri Allows Hundreds More to be Rescued

Dogsville, NMDR’s Missouri property, has already taken on a life-saving mission of its own. With the help of our outstanding partners from around the country, we nearly doubled our impact last year, rescuing over 2,000 dogs for the first time in our history.

Teresa and Crew, thanks for all you do. I am the adopted mom of a Shih Tzu Puppy Mill Mama. I never would have known to seek out a dog like her (neither Shih Tzu nor Mill Mama) if I hadn't known about NMDR. My girl, Squirt, is a joy and it has been a real treat to be part of her coming out of her shell and learning to be a beloved pet. My next rescue/adoption will be another Mill survivor. Thank you again. And if the MO location becomes an adoption center, too, I may be able to come there.

When are state legislatures and even CONGRESS going to act and make commercial dog breeding illegal? Will it stop all of it? NO. Murder isn't legal either and well, people still murder others but, when a breeder is discovered, there will be a means to punish that person. There needs to be consequences. This is all lovely but do people have ANY idea of the number of rescue groups in the country and the number of animals that need homes? These breeders need to be stopped. I'm incredibly thankful for the service you do.

It will not stop as long as there is a market and profit. Lot of these big corporations that have commercial dog breeding facilities are very friendly with the department of agriculture. We need to educate people not to buy dogs from pet stores. I am very glad that these people are surrendering these dogs rather than killing them. The Amish have a great number of puppy males, and they are not as amenable, and I will not go into detail how dogs are treated in their operations. You can find out for yourself.

Unfortunately in Indiana the political party in power is working hard to undo the laws that many cities had put in place to cut down on puppy mills.

Thank you for asking. Actually, commercial dog breeding in the United States is legal in all states. There are many organizations and resources applied toward more regulations, and/or closing down the industry. We have no legal authority to do so and we hope to help the situation by rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming as many of these dogs as we can. Thank you again for caring about this special population of dogs.

I don’t call commercial breeding operations breeders in the same way I call a responsible breeder that does health checks and has a contract. I’m not sure what to call them but probably this group has to be circumspect.
