there are some parts that i like, but oh god.. they should just leave the experimental sound to SM cause at least they know how to do it and JYPE did the girls so dirty, they barely debuted and are already receiving backlash for copying ATEEZ's storyline and a lot of their mv scenes too

The only good things to say about this debut is that the girls performed their hearts out with the crappy material they were given and the MV was beautifully shot, even if they couldn't make up their minds what the concept was supposed to be.

wow i hadn't watched the first video that introduces their storyline but now i understand why atinys were mad abt it... it's not just about having similar scenes or locations to ateez mvs but it's like jyp 'copied' their storyline? Maybe people who don't stan them can't quite pinpoint all of this but let me explain: Ateez introduced their pirate concept with a whole introduction video with epic narrating and beautiful shots of the dessert. Apart of nmixx introduction having shots of the dessert too, the title is 'declaration' which is the name of one of ateez intros. Moreover, in nmixx introduction and MV they created an image of sea animals floating in the sky and that same thing happens at the end of ateez MV 'thanxx' cause they are pirates with a floating ship. A ship that has appeared on ateez Illusion MV floating among pink clouds and literally with the same colours, aesthetic and appearance that the one in nmixx MV. And it's not only the ship that's almost the same to ateez in that whole scene but also the trees/half trees/bushes they're standing on. You can see a tree like that, standing in the sky coming out of the clouds in ateez fever part 2 photo concept. I don't want this to be so long so i'm going to try to summarize: Nmixx introduction says 'open your eyes, and ateez have the same phrase for their concept (it appears in their song Wave, their overture Crescent, etc). Nmixx introduction says 'some may laugh at us' and 'towards the utopia' while ateez also try to reach the utopia in their storyline and made a song called Utopia (with MV so it's important) in which they literally talk abt the same thing (they say even though people laugh they will continue to chase their dreams). Other things they say also appear in ateez songs multiple times: 'without hesitation', not because it's easy', 'towards the ocean' etc. Also, i've seen pics of what i believe is the story they tell in their albums and is also so similar to ateez album story (even the design and writing is so similar) so it just can't be only a bunch of coincidences. I want to clarify all the complains are being directed towards jyp, cause the girls are so talented, but i think they need better management.

I recommend checking out ZSunder's (superb) edit titled [[NMIXX "O.O" if the Superhero part was a full song]] That middle section reminds me of Itzy, and maybe that's why JYP didn't want to dwell too much on it.

Feels like JYP tried to pull an SM. Most of SM's stuff isn't for me, and this isn't either. I'm almost surprised someone went "yes, this is the one". It sure is bold, I'll give them that. Maybe this is another example of an entire song and MV being built in service of the lore, not the other way around? I dunno.

Thank you for your honesty, I'm in the camp that isn't a fan of this song in the least, I can agree with the notion that experimentation is the leading force towards the progress of art, but experimentation should also be controlled and regulated, this was just chaos to me I'm sorry, I'm not even a fan of music like aespa's and stray kids but you can call that experimental and maybe get away with it, but this was just the equivalent of taking an antibiotic that is to be injected into a lab mouse and dropping a bucket load of it over a grapevine, that's just not how experimentation works

The second part is actually an enjoyable listen. Still not what I would consider JYP standards myself but the vibe and styling is really nice. But I pretty much hated everything else about this debut. The Coke Zero ad made my brain instantly reject the first half of the song. It's a pity because the predebut live clips were pretty sick. The dance and vocal covers piqued my interest. But this song is messy and goes about mixing genres the wrong way imo. If you look at 2nd gen kpop and even aespas title tracks, the blend of genres hits you in the face but in a refreshing and weirdly satisfying way. There's none of that here; even on the spotify version of the song, the transition is nonexistent. The contrast between this song and DALLA DALLA is just so stark. I really wonder where JYP decide to take these girls in the future consider this weird debut. Hopefully they get the opportunity to shine better as their career goes on. Debuting through JYP means that at least they will have more chances to get more appealing concepts and songs. Moreso than if they were from a smaller company for sure.

I'm only watching this just now and you posted this 2 years ago so sorry for such a late response. However your notes about lore in K-pop groups really resonated with me. It would be super cool if we had a group someday that maybe had an in-depth TV series with really fleshed out lore and storylines, sort of like a drama. And perhaps they alternate between releasing new seasons for that show and album releases. Of course it would be perfect if their agency treated them well and respected their work-life balance too. Maybe someday!

They’re so clearly talented singers and dancers, but the songs are just horrible so far, so I feel bad for them with that. The concept of going into the utopia also changes the vibe. Like in the declaration trailer, in the utopia they feel really happy. But once they close their eyes the reality comes back. And so is the song goes back to dark side. Where happiness exists with pain. The ending credits the PICK N MIXX, the PICK is no longer on which leaves us to N MIXX. You can no longer pick it's all mixed. Also the lyrics have the lore in them. Tho I hoped the transitions weren't a bit off. I did enjoy the individual parts but as an overall song... Idk at first but it's growing.. if only the transitions are good I'll dig it at first

The second part was so interesting and good. It still had a unique sound but more enjoyable to the ear. And I loved that their vocals shined in that part. That part seemed to just suit their presence and style the most compared to the other two parts. I really wish it was its own separate song. Also I agree that the ateez copyright accusation feels like a stretch. It’s not a new concept to have floating ships in the air or to film in an alleyway looking at the sky

100% agree with not really liking the intro part, then the last half of the song is great. I think the MV really saved this song for me. I don't know names but the build up where one member is crashing through doors is so cool, and then the rock-inspired part is so beautifully and creatively done. The MV makes it so entertaining to watch. I tried listening to the song without the mv, and I just didn't enjoy it as much. My only couple of complaints is the opening rap rhythm and the vocals are not very prominent. The very first opening rap doesn't match the rising synth imo, but once the beat came in it was fine. The choreo is incredible!!! I heard it was created by Men of the Future who also choreograph for Pixy, so I'm very excited to see it in full! Also the coke ad doesn't bother me. It just reminds me of Woozi's Ruby😂

If this song was all structured around the 2nd part of the song, it would be absolutely amazing and one of the best debuts...but its ruined by a lack of structure and cohesiveness and its borderline cringy opening minute. In my opinion, K-pop is the process of melting all the existing genres into the mix. In other words, the next generation of K-pop seems to want to move forward with new K-pop music that was reborn there, rather than the songs we listened to before. So, the first time you hear a new K-pop, it may feel like a strange music, but as time goes by, I think it will be reborn as a completely new genre of music.

*shrug*, I liked it on second listen, once I got over the initial shock. I don't think it's actually that different from any weird SM song. The one thing I really don't like is the awkward AF product placement with the Coke sponsorship, mainly that they wrote it into the lyrics (peak cringe). Otherwise, it's a fun, different take on the SM formula. The genre isn't going to move forward if only one company ever pushes the envelope. Speaking of the lyrics, y'all in here need to read them and take their advice to "calm down." A lot of Kpop fans really are shitty about anything they don't like and it shows in some of these comments.

And to be clear I think there are some valid objective criticisms of this debut - PD's point about not doing a good job highlighting each member in the MV is on point. JYP needs to do better with things like that if they want NMIXX to succeed. But that doesn't make the song bad to me.

the song's structure (and everything else) aside, the whole thing just sounds badly produced... like sloppily recorded and put together. the mixing sounds so off to me - i'm not an expert so idk if that's the right wording, but the vocals sound drowned out, but then the instrumental doesn't sound particulary loud or overbearing either? it just sounds like i'm listening on bad headphones even though i'm not. there's been 'experimental' kpop songs that i don't like, but they are, at the very least, well produced. reading through some opinions of the song i haven't seen other people saying this, so i'm not sure whether it truly is just me or if people are stuck on other things so they don't care to mention it..

This is probably the worst (Kpop) song I've heard. First off, it is not new that Kpop mixes different songs in one song, such as Next Level by Aespa, but this song's MV is not even consistent. The song structure itself is highly inconsistent and the same as the MV. The opening looks like they are going to a war and then suddenly transitions to a coke commercial?? Then the MV became so colourful, like some Twice content?? Second off, everyone knows this is a debut song, but you don't need to repeat that in your lyrics. I can't believe they just tell people this is a teaser and their content is coming soon etc.. What is this nonsense? so for their next comeback, are they gonna tell people this is our first comeback and pls look forward in the lyrics?? Last but not least, they are a jyp girl group. We had so many good gg debut songs such as Tell Me, Bad girl good girl, Like Woo ahh and Dalla2. Wtf is this song? Does JYP himself even want to listen to this song?? I was sad I didnt buy JYPn but now I'm so happy I didn't purchase it lol
