I had a German friend in College, great guy, very fond of dark humor. One night, we were at a beer house in Nashville, flirting with some of the local ladies and one girl, who seemed a little dense, asked him why Europeans didn't just speak the same language like we do in America; he said, "well, the reason for that, liebling, is because Germany lost the war." 😂

@@acosmicbeing3854 Germany would’ve been better off if Italy had stayed neutral, like Switzerland. Instead of being a reliable ally, Italy constantly needed Germany’s help with logistics and strategy, forcing the Germans to fight on additional fronts. They lacked the patriotism and drive to be effective. As for Japan, they didn’t really contribute much to Germany. In fact, Germany gave Japan more advanced tech, like the Tiger I, Me 262, U-boats, and the MG42. Japan didn’t go to war with the U.S. because of some deep plan with Germany-it was more like, "Why not join them?" Their alliance was more symbolic than anything strategic.

Not really, after the assassination of the arch Duke Austria hungary gave an unreasonable ultimatum to serbia, as a pretext for war. When serbia rejected it, germany back their claim while the soviets sided with serbia, triggering the alliance with France. Germany greatly expanded the war with the rape of Belgium where they enlsaved many Belgians in forced labor camps, and executed many in the streets as reprisals for reticence to their invasion, dragging Britain into the war (who garunteed Belgian neutrality). Germany submarines also sank US ships trading with Britain, angering the Americans, and then asked Mexico to invade the US if they sided the Entente dragging America into the war. At almost every step the Germans escalated the war

The answer is US backing in western Germany after the war. Much less sanctions after ww2, and simply not sticking to the sanctions after ww1 was also a big factor. Around the 50‘s to 70‘s the birthrates began to stagnate and there was a worker shortage, so they brought in migrant workers and the economy boomed. Solid social welfare and healthcare programs reduce the loss of the worker pool through poor health or not being able to financially recover from big financial troubles which stabilises the economy. That and the fact that Germany has had a fairly solid industrial base for the past 200 years or so which has largely been able to adapt with the market. It’s not a chip on our shoulder or a can do attitude. It was good management of the economy and a lot of external help.

Kinda yes but also kinda not. Before 1935 Germany was not very strong economically or army wise. They just built a lot of weapons and tanks in secret for some years but it wasn't that much stronger than most even smaller european nations, it was only cause of appeasement that they got A LOOT of resources, manpower and equipment by literally just asking UK and France. After WW2 they didn't really have to pay that many reparations, at least compared to what they were supposed to be paying after WW1. The Allies even helped quite a bit to stabilize West Germany.

Do not point out eastern Germany like that. Sure there are 30% voting for the AfD here, but 70% are not. And I hardly believe Bavaria learned anything from the past. The problem of many people voting for the AfD here is western Germany pissing on the east in multiple ways (e.g. economy, political representation) and not fantasies of conquering the world again.

Their engineers. Other countries didn’t let that go to waste. They just came to an agreement, made it look good & eventually helped the Germans get back on their feet. Same with the Japanese. Unless you can help the allies you’re just a throwaway country that’s more valuable being destabilized, especially if those countries are resource rich like many South American and African countries.

It's multifaceted: 1. Many countries after losing wars/suffering disasters have horrifying damage to their infrastructure and huge portions of their population dead or disabled. Germany didn't really have this after WWI (although it did a bit after WWII) 2. Many disaster-stricken countries have years and years of civil wars and coups and warlordism that make effective governance basically impossible. Germany didn't really suffer this (ok, they did a *little* bit after WWI, but not that much). 3. Most countries don't get tons and tons of money and help rebuilding after wars and disasters. (West) Germany did.
@hadhamalnam

Yeah, in general the biggest asset a country can have economically is not its infrastructure or resources, it's its people with their education and skills. If you maintain that, even after destruction of physical infrastructure you can recover (although as a caveat international relations are of course also vital, because if the people who conquered you decide that you are going to stay destroyed, then you cant do much about that.)
@olska9498
@olska9498 Ай бұрын
@@riggsmarkham922 What do you mean "they did a bit"? There were literally several coups and a civil war after WW1 and the majority of German cities lay in ashes with a huge population dead after WW2. Both things you mentioned literally happen to Germany, not " a bit" but in extreme forms. And West Germany got LITERALLY 1/1000th of the devloping aid after WW2 as African countries got in the last 30 years. 1/1000th, that's 0,1%!

Same thing with Japan - this is what happens when you don't need to spend money on your Military. All the money went into social infrastructure and business development.
