one of my cousins reside in Igboora, she is not a native of Igboora and she gave birth to two set of twins within 4 years of living in this town. it is true ilasa (okro leaves) and yam are contributory factors for their fertility. these two are the major foods they are consuming in this town. the only vegetable they eat is Ilasa. in the absence of Ilasa they would eat another leaf called "Morogbo". Also, they are farming in this town the food they eat is organic coupled with genetic. these are the contributory factors for giving birth to twins

It ain't no damn leaves that give these people the fertility of life! If that was true the RICH westerns would be eating them to have ONE baby. Twins come from genetics! And africa is the most fertile continent in the world! This town or state has people with similar genetics. Clear as day but lol about the yams and leaves 🍃 😅 🤣

Right!! That's the real kicker because the majority of twins in the world are fraternal, and that simply results from multi-ovulation (which many women have a genetic predisposition to doing).The fact that the twins in this city are identical makes the story all the more fascinating because it's long been thought by scientists and doctors that people aren't predisposed to having identical twins. Regarding identical twins, the egg splitting that occurs just after fertilization is thought to be a purely coincidental accident of Mother Nature and not a function of genetic or environmental factors. HOWEVER, this town's twin population aggressively challenges that theory. Though not yet discovered and confirmed, there MUST be something in nature that makes these people more likely to have identical twins. This can't be coincidental.

Great content! A foreign Catholic Rev. Sister who is gynaecologist/obstetrician (not sure of her academic qualifications!), and used to work somewhere in the South West, conducted a research into the 'phenomenon' and discovered that: The cause of the pervasive twin birth in the town, is the type of YAM which, they consume there. This yam contains properties which cause fertilised eggs to split. I think that she was awarded a prize in recognition of her work

@KathyPrendergast-cu5ci
@KathyPrendergast-cu5ci Жыл бұрын
The reason this town is unique is not just because of the high number of twins but the fact that most of their twins seem to be identical. Identical twins are much rarer than fraternal twins and what causes a fertilized egg to split and grow into two genetically identical babies is still largely unknown, while the cause of fraternal twins is simple, just a woman releasing two eggs when she ovulates rather than just one, and both of them getting fertilized and implanted in the womb. They come from two separate eggs fertilized by two different sperm, so are no more alike genetically than any two full siblings, other than being the same age. Identical twins in contrast are still a mystery; scientists still don’t know how to replicate the process that causes identical twinning. And sometimes of course the process goes wrong and results in conjoined twins.
@NubianP6
@NubianP6 Жыл бұрын
My (ex) husband and I have identical twin girls that were born in Germany. We lived in a very small village, on a circle behind the Rathaus (like a city hall here in America), and despite there not being very many houses back there on our street, there were three other German families who also had twins before we had ours. We used to joke that there was “something in the water”. 😂 As for diet and the likelihood i’m having twins, there have been studies that have shown that people who have diets that consist of a lot of tuber roots, such as yams, which are high in phytoestrogen, could possibly increase the likelihood of a woman releasing more than one egg. A lot of people don’t know that getting pregnant with identical twins doesn’t necessarily have a genetic component. It’s more or less random, but there are some factors that make it more likely such as race (Black people have twins most often), height, and age.

Let's not mystify this issue. It's genetics. Igbora is a small rural community, meaning that they are likely to marry within their wider kin network or close community. Such increases the higher chances of twin birth. Medical research for areas like OAU and UCH should investigate and document this. Thanks for sharing.

Greetings, my goodness, only in Africa these marvelous things can happen. Well , I believe that that there is something in what they eat that changes the genetics structure in them leading to the birth of Twins. Anytime something different is happening to humans is because something, somehow got into the body that is in the land where they live that changes. Nothing happens just like that, and because they are carry of the gene pool so automatically when having children with someone else especially from the same village , automatically can create twins . Thank you. This is an amazing story. Keep up your good work. Your sista from across the ocean . Costa Rica central America.

Actually some places in eastern Nigeria abandoned or killed twins till d practice was abolish via drive by Missionary Mary Slessor
@nkechidouglas5541
@nkechidouglas5541 Жыл бұрын
Guilty as charged. In certain towns and amongst certain people groups in Nigeria, twins were deemed to be evil and abandoned to die immediately after birth. A white missionary called Mary Slessor eventually put a stop to it, and also the offering of human sacrifice. I think it occurred Mostly in the Cross-River State area of Nigeria. The Yoruba, however, have always revered twins. They are regarded as the king amongst children, so they don't have a history of killing twins.

Multiple births are recorded in Igbo Ora than anywhere in the world. The high rate of twins in Igbo-Ora has been historically attributed to a Yoruba meal, Amala and Ilasa. This meal is said to contain gonadotrophins, a chemical that helps women produce multiple eggs.

My grandmother’s sisters, didn’t have any twins, but their children and grandchildren had twins! Our family doesn’t always skip a generation with our twin births either! That is right. I am disappointed when I saw the state of that town in this video. I know igbo ora since early 80s during my school days. Medical students from. University of Ibadan used to go to the town then for research about this multiple birth scenarios. I am shocked to see that the town has degenerated to this low years after. State government should beautifies the town more to attract tourists.

@@mehammy5788 I am learning for the first time that tourist disturb the privacy of host town. When your place have something that is beautiful and unique. You will want to showcase it to none native far and near. Many tourists destinations all over the world are sources of income generation to both the locals and the government. Tourist never intrude into anyone privacy. They come and go and spend money on foods, hotels and solveneers etc. Example are Dubai, many Caribbeans destinations, and many cities across USA and the whole world
