Hey Chuck ;) so good to meet you I’m so so sorry for late reply I’m just going through the comments now for the second stage trying to establish if the winner come through, man what a great comment congratulations on reaching our age and still surfing and Skating you should be absolutely commended incredible stuff…thank you so much for such kind comments;). yes surfing is my number one sport I haven’t got a channel on that but I definitely have dove very deep into the SmoothStar and they are definitely the best emulation of a Surfboard feel. Congratulations on sticking with the Carver it’s a nice little set up and works really well and quite safe feeling have you got the CX? The SmoothStar‘s are little bit looser and they more pivot from the tail so the rear trucks are solid as in don’t move, so you’ll find that it is a real exact feeling of a carve through wave it will blow your mind, congratulations on getting one of these you’ll never look back there’s such a beautiful piece of engineering and they look dam sexy, welcome aboard the channel thank you so much for supporting me a lot of SmoothStar stuff coming up some more giveaways and more tutorials as well as some hacks / modifications and moving more towards SmoothStar‘s and a couple of Electric Skateboard videos But I’ll start riding more and talking about. Welcome aboard great to meet you and look forward to hearing your feedback on the Johanne Defay if you get that all depends on your height but maybe even Filipe Toledo is also a worthy option if you are over 6 foot I’ll go to Manta Ray I love my manta is well, have an awesome week cheers matey Andrew ⚔️

Hey Cameron;) Great to meet you a and welcome aboard the channel well thank you so much for popping in and giving your first hand experience on what you’re riding SmoothStar Toledo #77 and that’s what I ride too 👍 what a difference it makes every other carving boards in the other industry companies. I will never sell my Toledo# 77 but now t with the new Thruster D mechanism design smaller cantilever… here’s the good news you can choose a different range of sizes in the #77 so even taller the riders can get a Toledo with a 34 inch wheelbase this is so exciting for the taller 6 foot dudes … as you know how beautiful this board goes, the new mechanism is ridiculously smooth flawless and it’s counterbalanced beautifully as you saw in my detailed analytics of it. Keep up the great work you’re in the contest Draw 12 days to go fingers crossed good luck have an awesome day Cameron cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hail Andrew!!! Thanks for the opportunity to clarify our doubts and add knowledge to us through your channel!!! Three years ago I started exploring surf training alternatives and found you. It was through your very technical analysis that I also came to the conclusion that Smoothstar is without a doubt the best in the world in this regard. I have also tried the other brands of surfskate and found that they do not come close to Smoothstar. I am 56 years old and only two years ago I started surfskate and I see how much I evolved with Smoothstar. What is the secret of so much energy in you my brother, you ride with a grommet and are a great example too!!! Thanks for introducing us to Thruster D -Conner O'Leary 34". Hey Sandro ;) OMG 😀👍 Sandro thank you so much for providing such a humbling experience of complimentary to me and on my channel and videos. To this I’m extremely appreciative. I think we have chatted before and I know you’re so passionate in your surfing and your training and I know this is helped you not only in your personal riding but also in training. My gosh yes Paul and Rhett yes are amazing at SmoothStar these guys are the four runners the great Trail blazers and the forefathers of our sport 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️ they’ve provide the first designs of surf skate and carving training Boards … I have truly developed a pure euphoric and quite extraordinary piece of equipment. Filipe Toledo just run the 2022 world title training on this 10 hours a week Johanna defay just came third in the world titles in 2022 training six hours a day on this. It goes on and on there’s so many surfers adopting this as their number one training tool SmoothStar Making Surfers Better and why not because now the Thruster D well …. it’s near perfection. The Connor O’Leary is a beautiful shape I’m only 5’10 and this is a nice size deck for me plenty of Realestate I have size 11 feet. I’m so happy Sandro you watched my early comparisons videos three years ago and got into the SmoothStars and this sport Sandro this is obviously got your fitness improved your cardiovascular your surfing your health and generally your happiness increased by 100%, anyone reading this … you MuST must get yourself one of these put some headphones on your favourite music get to netball basketball court two hours later you won’t have anything to worry about and your sleep for 10 hours LOL, keep up the great work Sandro are you in the contest to win the board best of luck fingers crossed keep up the great work made my whole week cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hey Josh, awesome to meet you and thank you so much for providing your feedback I have a good friend in Germany who supplies Yow boards Longboardsz DE Germany Franky …and they are quite impressive probably in my opinion number two on the leaderboard. But again they lack the size of the deck the unique scalloped out rear deck foot area … the back tail on the new thruster D provides such a smooth transition through turns with power it really is day and night they say 25% difference from Thruster I but I feel it’s a bit more. The Yow board is nice I have owned one but I’d sold it in my opinion SmoothStars are definitely the go at step up to the next level and definitely give one ago. Well you are in the contest draw for the winning SmoothStar prize good luck fingers crossed Josh have a great day and thank you so much for providing your feedback awesome cheers Andrew ⚔️

First of all Andrew, I want to thank you sir for your very well executed informative surf-skate videos. You are a wonderful asset as a Smoothstar spokesperson. So Awesome! From my extensive research your videos have really helped the most to understand the mechanics of how the Smoothstar boards & trucks actually work and perform in superb detail. Plus I can see what the products look like up close. I really enjoyed the visual 3D graphics of the new Thruster D Trucks and your comparison between the Thruster 1 & Thruster D models. The design is so futuristic and absolutely gorgeous. I can see how it actually will perform better, be stronger and outlast the previous model. I'm 60 years young and considering purchasing the 31.5 Holy Toledo THD set up for my first Surf-Skate. I noticed you mentioned that you should ride the board barefooted to get the most out of the performance. I'll be riding more for fun to have that free feeling of surfing and to retain my strength & balance. I will not be riding for surf training purposes. Question 1: Would one still enjoy the Smoothstar experience and get a good performance wearing shoes? Question 2&3: What kind of courts are you surf-skating on and what's the location? I would love to find a place like this to ride. Thank You Very Much Stay Radical Mate! •Mark the Shark•

Hey Mark the shark, well you’ve just made my day thank you so much for such an in-depth and really awesome response. Fantastic to meet you and thank you so much for such incredible positivity and feedback that really is wonderful very appreciated. First of all congratulations on decide to buy SmoothStar you’ll honestly be blown away and won’t look back. Great to meet you and a big shout out to let me know where you’re from ? . Mark this is the next level when it comes to surf skate devices .. Doesn’t matter if you surf or don’t surf concrete cement waves are nearly as close as the real thing in movement …you’ll have a blast with this. That sounds like a good entry point of 31.5 inch. Okay obviously bare feet is more appropriate if you’re a surfer you want to really get that feeling of balls and toes and grip. But if you aren’t into surfing shoes are fine I’ve done a lot of my videos wearing vans there’s no real huge difference just a little bit more grippy were you doing some heavy turns… okay I will be doing a whole lot of intro style exercises and movements to get people into the right space with the spring and twisting of the body and give you a classic style rather than a bad style if you know what I mean. Those videos will be coming along of the next few months. Well you’re in the draw to win SmoothStar so in terms of training / riding .. I recommend going to basketball or netball courts where the painted finish on the Concrete is really awesomely smooth and grippy start with that then find more mellow skate parks to start getting a bit more vertical and the rest will just flow from there Mark ;) let me know how you go looking forward to hearing your exciting journey adventure on the SmoothStar … it’s without doubt certainly the ultimate surf skate boards ;) I have no affiliation with the company I’m not even sponsored I just independently review these things and I’ve done a lot now including the 66 boards from China which was pretty good too but is SmoothStar‘s head and shoulders over everything … just the next level without it out… have an awesome weekend great to chat cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hey Terry, great to hear from you. I know they say walk but I’m telling you now and knees don’t last as long as our bodies now we live into 90’s … so definitely this is all the movement of a walk without actually impacting your knees and your meniscus and of course the bones. It’s an awesome experience you can get speed up to 17 k’s an hour on the flat don’t have to do any walking and the core workout is crazy good well you’re in the draw fingers crossed 12 days to go awesome Teddy have a great day cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hey Tulpa ;) awesome stuff great to meet you, well you’re spot on with the SmoothStar decks there’s nothing like a SmoothStar deck that big scalloped out scoop at the back the kick tail the thickness of the deck the overall wider width is just insane nothing comes close in my opinion the number one or number two aspect of the SmoothStar boards are that make them so different is a deck so well done there. Until you’ve tried thruster D its the mechanism I’d wait to hold out til you try it … this is absolutely insane piece of engineering definitely have a go at one if you can see one around in the wild and you’ll just go oh my god that’s insane. Hey Mark, great to hear from you again yes I remember you well. Well congratulations on getting the Verreal I still got my three boards they go like a dream really high quality robust ESkateboards and I’m so happy for you. It also gets your surfing improved and wave sense all that kind of stuff electric skateboarding definitely improved my surfing but what brings it to the next level Mark is the SmoothStar‘s. This is a perfect time to jump in and put your toe in the water for these new carving boards get yourself one of these new boards the thruster D mechanism is insane… head down the local basketball court netball courts or even smaller skate parks and headphones on your fav music .. and you’ll forget that everything. It will also improve your timing and your Wave judgement on positioning … thank you so much you made my day Mark I’m so happy I’m changing people‘s lives a lot of work as into the 60 hours for each video into just to know that it’s making a difference it’s just making it all worthwhile. I am so close to pulling the trigger, I've been finding my carver more and more frustrating, as my journey into surf skating is moving more into technical surfing moves .. I've been practising more rail to rail and various roundhouse and cut-backs -carver just isn't as nimble... thanks for doing this as I've been hanging to check out reviews on the new models....

Hey Ricky O:) so good to meet you Ricky and man what a great comment if anyone’s reading this this is a perfect testimony to someone his owns a Carver for over a couple of years etc I have one for three years there’s no comparison the carver is good for what it is but it’s more skate recreational toy and more a wiggle board it just doesn’t have that sharp drive from the front truck. Ricky also notice your carver rear back tracks turn as well gives you a slide effect like a rally car a snowboard drifty feel ….that also changes your whole dynamics of your upper body and arm movements. The SmoothStar‘s rear truck does not move…. it’s dead straight and solid it’s designed that way not to turn …. So with the front truck on the SmoothStar carving hard only gives the effect of going into corners like a Formula One car or a surfboard feel carve … from the front only . Thanks Ricky for providing your next level step up enjoyment plan … you’re in the contest draw to win the board good luck Ricky if not just get yourself one let me know how high you how tall you are and we’ll go from there what I suggest but who knows someone’s got to win this contest five days to go have an awesome day cheers Andrew⚔️

My videos little bit different to a lot of dudes who are more just doing the carving and riding hard and skate parks but the problem is you need to know what you’re getting what the changes are the aspects of the new truck mech set up and is it worth buying a new one or not etc etc so this video covers all that and for the newbees i give them some good body movements with the scoop & clap and one arm figure 8 movements get them into the right style. Man this is an incredible improvement took them 17 years but without a doubt it’s one to add to the flagship all your fleet of carving Boards the new model is also lighter which I didn’t mention too much in the video but I’ll go through more details in the Joanne Defay Unboxing in about seven days;) well you’re in the draw so only 2 days to go fingers crossed awesome Jacob you have a great day cheers Andrew ⚔️

It’s an old school review from a typical surfer quite detailed … analysing the new truck mech .. and incorporating FAQ frequently asked questions and giving you the dynamics of the improvement I didn’t just go carving on it I need to talk about the new design which I think is covered it. The next video will be there Johanne Defay model and I’ll be more carving on that at a skate park and I’ll go through more of the adjustments of the mechanism and pull it apart. This is incredible it’s a vast improvement on what was already a perfection device so congratulations SmoothStar on just providing even greater surf training vehicles for our industry and the street carvers, awesome stuff Jessie you’re in the draw for the contest 12 days to go fingers crossed good luck Cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hey Anglesurf11 thank you so much for popping in and giving us your testimony on your Manta Ray it has been an amazing stalwart that board for me too :) I ride it as my main board “to go to” all the time but now I’ve got the Connor O’Leary I pull that out more there is definitely improvement in the new thruster D … the mechanism is flawless beautifully designed and fluid as ..to a point where it is yes .. worthy to buy another board for sure… i’ll be Unboxing the Johanne Defay next week and in that video announcing the winner of the contest for which by the way you in the draw to win the contest fingers crossed good luck, I have had a bad injury on my left and right elbow as well as my knee so … I’m going to be a little bit careful pumping it too hard I’m not a skate park kinda dude but I will be using some eight and 6 foot wave rams to get some nice carves off the top, hope to have that in the next video if not I’ll do it in the one after that give me another four weeks to heal LOL, but thank you for your support amazing feedback and kind words, keep up the great work look forward to chatting in the next video very exciting and winner will be announced, have a great day cheers Andrew⚔️

@zulupenman
@zulupenman Жыл бұрын
Hey Arron, great to meet you and friggin awesome questions…. Obviously you’re seriously looking at getting one of these and congratulations …..but just wait till the contest is drawn you might win one LOL okay where to start, here we go…. good point the website doesn’t state the wheel base distances but that’s fine because nothing is really changed. I have the 34.5 inch (that donates the deck length) on original Manta Ray and the wheel base between the centre of the trucks or the centre of the wheels 20 inches that goes the same for the new Connor O’Leary 34.5 inch the wheel base is 20 inches nothings changed there… The only difference now is you can get a Connor O’Leary in the smaller size 31 inch which it obviously has a 17 inch roughly wheel based distance for the younger Grom ie 5’3" to 5’5’"surfer… The width of the trucks is standard 9 1/4 inches wide that goes the new models the new thruster D and the old models Thruster D the width of the deck at the front truck is 9 1/4 inches as well both on the original Manta Ray and the new Connor O’Leary 34.5" The only difference is the distance from the front of the new thruster D truck is only 2 1/2 inches from the nose while the original manta ray thruster one signature I truck is 3 1/2 inches from the nose… but both have the same wheel base length if you know what I mean so that gives a slightly better ratio aspect to the wheelbase and the deck shape of the new design boards… The other interesting aspect is now with this new Thruster D design truck as I demonstrated in the video you can now have two size ranges in Filip Toledo #77 and two size shapes of the Connor O’Leary Pro model to accommodate surfers or riders from 5 foot 3 to 6‘2“. So essentially the 34.5 inch Connor O’Leary would suit a surfer 6 foot to 6‘2“ in height… having said that I’m only 5‘10“ and it works a treat for me so there you go they pretty much all work pretty well ;) congratulations Arron for asking such an awesome question …. had to get the tape measure out LOL other than that let me know any other questions and you’re in the draw for the contest still five days to go good luck fingers crossed have an awesome day cheers Andrew⚔️

Appreciate the training steps too (and the music). I'd be interested in how it compares with the waterborne adapter - the Smoothstar looks...well, smoother and carves tighter based on what I can see in your vids.

Hey Brendt ;) Great to meet you what a fantastic comment and question. We’ve had a few waterborne questions raised 👍 it is probably the closest stand out amongst all the other carving boards…. Carvers actually overrated … quite a rudimentary design and with the rear truck turning as well it’s more a a wiggle board affect and gives you an incorrect surf feel and actually puts your surging backwards in training. I don’t know why Jamie O’Brien he’s got into bed with the carver but a lot of the companies hype up the product ….it really is a tiny deck too … it’s more the toy compare to the SmoothStar, the surfskate device is well just a joke it’s a shopping trolley on the front of a skateboard but the waterborne has some merit is a nice unit but if I gave it a rating … it would be around about seven point 7.5 / 10 this is the difference of the SmoothStar it is phenomenally designed Japanese industrial perfection with hard-core surfers top seven in the world ride this board and have given feedback. But don’t get me wrong it’s a cheaper alternative to buy the waterborne adapter but seriously grab one of these SmoothStars …it’ll change your life Brendt, and fingers crossed you’re in the draw to win a brand-new SmoothStar of your choice and I think the best size board the moment for our height is the Filipe Toledo # 77 for my height is the best fitness for purpose although I’m trying out next video the 31" Johanne Defay next video that’ll be interesting at the skate park will see if it’s stable enough and has some nice tight turns , have an awesome day Brendt welcome aboard the channel lots of SmoothStar videos and content coming cheers Andrew⚔️

The new thruster D is literally flawless it’s lighter stronger and provides even more resilience through the turn with along with agility and refinement really is a very big upgrade… I hope we see more smoothstars in Europe and in Italy and France they’re carving them up for the surf skate schools but you could be one of the first in your town or city to have one they are insanely built, have a great day Hayward thank you so much cheers Andrew ⚔️

Beautiful boards. Would love to get one. Thanks for the review. Question about Filipe Toledo #77 models. How different is the wheel base between 34’’ old thruster and 32,5’’ thruster D on this model?
@zulupenman
@zulupenman Жыл бұрын
Hey Evgeniy :) Great to meet you and fantastic question. I’ve had two of these and I answer the one of the Connor O’Leary same query different model I’m pretty sure they’re the same answers … ie both those older model and current model #77 Will have the same wheelbase length of 20"… ✅ but I haven’t got the new Filip Toledo THD with me need the tape measure to measure it but I suspect it’s the same. So I have the original Filipe Toledo #77 which has a 20 inch wheelbase the new smaller model #77 THD is designed for the shorter rider or taller rider that wants a smaller #77 board. The new 34.5 inch Filipe #77 has a 20 inch wheelbase and the smaller 31 inch Filipe THD would have a better 17 to 18 inch wheelbase but I need to check that thoroughly and get back to you here … definitely the thruster D is the next level it’s an amazing mechanism counter balance perfectly and less drag smoother turns with power … well the good news you’re in the contest draw to win a SmoothStar start fingers crossed good luck have a awesome day cheers Andrew⚔️

Hey Andrew. Thanks a lot for your response. I assume you meant 32,5 Toledo THD and not 34,5. Earlier this week I was lucky to try the old smoothstar thruster board. Hey Daniel, no chance of any wheel by the design of these things is incredible, I weigh 96 kg I’ve hit this thing so hard there’s no possible chance of any wheel by and any of the three boards I own so the spaces and a diagonal curve space on the rear trucks gives you perfect clearance… you will not encounter anywhere near wheel bite. The only thing you might do is jackknife over the front which I’ve done a few times because the turm was too hard but again if your shift your weight and you get to learn how to do that you’re not going to have any problems with that either… awesome new video isn’t far away have a great weekend cheers Andrew ⚔️

Bump trucks into hard stop? Not sure what that means Daniel ? but if it means again the wheel bite …no you can’t stop them with a deck on wheel bike. If you need to go quickly to a four brake slide stop on the hill etc I’ve pretty much tried mine on the flat or skate park so I don’t need to worry about that… let me know Daniel if that’s what you’re referring to awesome cheers Andrew ⚔️

I built a Carver and really there’s no comparison to my SmoothStar Toledo 77. It would be hard to beat, but I’m willing to be impressed. Ironically enough was teaching an old ski pal in the local skate-park. Now we’re both hooked. Would you recommend getting another Toledo 77 on the new thruster, or a different board? Maybe the Conner??

Hey AW ;) awesome to meet you what a fantastic story. Look this is as you rightly said this is at another level there’s nothing comes close to the SmoothStar mechanism even the the now original SmoothStar thruster one signature I addition. But now the new models new THD and the new design the new decks and the new wheel bases to accommodate smaller decks these are in another league. Personally I probably wouldn’t worry getting another #77 though I would get the Connor 34.5 inch if you’re over so 5‘11“ or if under 5’8" get the smaller Connor O’Leary …. The THD mechanism is incredibly smooth incorporates a better spring system a more fluid turn with power and a nice release really is improved incredibly. Thank you so much for providing such incredible testimony your previous experiences with other boards and you’re in the draw for the contest fingers crossed thank you so much again have an awesome day cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hey Mark, wow what a awesome comment again I keep saying this but they’re getting better and better as I go through them. Well my man you a couple of levels above me I’m not in the bowl yet …but I am doing some nice 8 foot cement waves I’m 62 though I’ve gotta be careful of my age LOL but look I’ll tell you now you’ve just made me smile that I encouraged you to get not only the #77 but the manta Ray ’ve got both on my wall they’re like a piece of art in my bedroom I look at them when I first wake up I look at them before I fall asleep, we just like big kids with toys lol … but this does improve not only your skateboarding but you’re surfing and I can’t thank you enough for letting me know Mark what a difference I’m making in people‘s lives. Well great question I’ve been riding the Connor O’Leary for about four weeks the mechanism is definitely improved considerably and it is absolutely flawless. I’m taking it to a skate park next week where it’s got some nice waves I can get some good speed up and hopefully put it more to its test. In the next video that Johanne Defay Unbox … I will announce the winner and you’re in the draw for the contest Mark so fingers crossed good luck, in that video I’ll also take the Connor O’Leary to the skate park and give it some stick. But for all accounts it is the perfect addition to your quiver the Connor ✅ you will notice the difference in the new THD …depends how tall you are whether you get the shorter Connor Leary or the longer but I think the 34.5 inch be perfect I’m only 5 foot 10 works like a dream for me. Andrew, great video! Just came across your channel, will dive into it, thank you! I've got a question which I'm sure you'll be able to give advice on: I own the Johanne Delay 32.5 " . I'd like to try the new Thruster D system and would also like to go smaller as the 32.5 its quite large and heavy for me I feel (I'm 167 cm). I do surf training, some cruising and skateparks/bowls with it. So I'm looking at the new 31 " models and trying to decide between the black Toledo 31" and the Connor O'Leary 31" . Is it mainly a preference of colour and looks and will they ride the same or is there more a of difference to them? Would love to get your opinion. Cheers, Konrad

So yes I can thoroughly recommend that Toledo #77 Board it is absolutely incredible. Now in terms of how they both ride… and any differences essentially the wheelbase should be the same and the front new ThD mechanism will be the same but is a little bit more scalloped out on the side and a little bit narrower all over while the corner Leary is a wider and a more chunkier nose area because Connor is actually quite tall about 6’1" so that design for the original length was made wider for his feet… it depends if you like the look of the black to Lido which I do all you like them or ruggedness of the O’Leary… if you have large feet for your size maybe go to the corner at Larry otherwise if you’re proportional to your height and weight maybe the 31 inch Filip Talita will be the go … when you watch my Unboxing video I’m 5‘10“ and I’m gonna be writing a 32.5 inch Joanne to pay which is a little bit small for me and I do weigh about 95 kg. So I’ll be interesting to see what I think about that although AVG already written it and I did find it very agile and probably a little bit nippy for me I prefer the 32.5 inch length of my original #77at the smaller shorter length. So yes I can thoroughly recommend that Board it is absolutely incredible. Now in terms of how they both ride essentially the wheelbase should be the same and the front mechanism will be the same but the #77 is a little bit more scalloped out on the side and a little bit narrower all over… while the o’ Leary is a wider and a more chunkier nose area because Connor is actually quite tall guy about 6’1" so that design for the original length was made wider for his feet… it depends if you like the look of the black #77 which I do…. Or ..you like the ruggedness of the O’Leary… if you have large feet for your size maybe go to the Connor … otherwise if your feet are proportional to your height and weight maybe the 31” #77 will be the go … when you watch my JD Unboxing video I’m 5‘10“ and I’m going to be riding a 32.5 inch JD which is a little bit small for me and I do weigh about 95 kg. So I’ll be interesting to see what I think about that although Ive already ridden I t and I did find it very agile and probably a little bit nippy for me I prefer the 32.5 inch length of my original #77…. Now the last consideration will be the overall look the Connor has a all grey wheel set up while the #77 has beautiful black wheels - 77 looks quite aesthetically beautiful that black underneath side and the O’leary has a really nice gun metal blue kind of roadster paint finished it looks quite epic as well. So it really depends on your overall feeling of what you would like… I might have a look at the two concave scalloped out areas at the tail of both boards now … one sec … lol … okay, just as I suspected the website doesn’t show the side on of the board and the dynamics of the back tail indent concave, the #77 has a deeper scalloped out area at the tail for your back foot with the same sort normal kick tail .. while the O’Connor is more flatter scolloped out area with the same kick tail coming out still a bit scolloped out ..but probably half as deep as the Toledo … so you can make your own decision if you’re doing Bowls or skate park ..you might want to more flatter deck with a kick tail so = O’Leary … but if you’re doing deep calves surf training maybe you want them or deeper scalloped out tail area then = #77 .. Conrad Hope that helps welcome aboard 👍😀 have a great week cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hey Steve, well thank you so much for writing all that out and taking the time to let us know you gave the good old SwellTech not only a go but love it. and also was the proud owner of a Johanne Defay and still probably enjoy both. You’re obviously a surfer as well see you love that really very agile tight turns. truck system, personally I found it very sketchy I’m nearly 100 kg and I just think I was too heavy for that particular device I’ve seen the young Groms you’re only way about 50 kg or 30 kg fly around on them but to me it wasn’t stable enough and it’s has too much movement. But thank you so much for your feedback on that that’s wonderful. I think you’ll be really impressed if you had a ride on one of these new SmoothStar Truster D on the new models they are absolutely flawless total amazing fluidity through the turn and a wonderful reflex it just feels like a surfboard in a wave quite insane. well you’re in the draw for the winning SmoothStar prize good luck fingers crossed Steve thanks so much again for providing your feedback have an awesome day cheers Andrew⚔️

Swelltechs trucks have been modified a few times over the years and i think their latest 2022 ones are a bit more stable then previous models. (My springs are alot heavier then my buddys who got his years ago). Anyway.. smoothstar for cruising n swelltech in the bowl if you ask me.. could be a good vid? Hey Steve, I do get what you’re saying on more serious Bowls the swelltech movement will give you a more slide and more sharper angle probably more forgiving, the SmoothStar you really need to flick it more from the tail and probably slide the back wheels out as it doesn’t turn as sharp, it would take a while with the swelltech they are pretty sketchy I prefer the more stability of the SmoothStar mechanism even on more 60° ramp stuff, well not long now next for the next SS video …coming up soon have a great weekend cheers Andrew

Hey Jarryd ;) Great to meet you Jarryd and thanks for popping in and talking about your previous history with the Carver. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with the caver as a basic surf skate it’s a nice little mechanism but for me as a surfer it just doesn’t cut it definitely put my surfing back ….the decks are too small they don’t have the scalloped out back and then mechanism is more tighter wiggle smaller carvey feeling great for getting a bit more speed but the rear trucks move too much for my liking the SmoothStar rear truck does not move at all very clever design extremely fluid and emulates the surfboard carve by the board on a wave exactly. Definitely get yourself one they’re so much bigger than a carver but they look better and the mechanism now and this is just absolutely flawless ⭐️⭐️⭐️The Thruster D is the future it’s counterbalanced perfectly… well you’re in the contest draw to win a SmoothStar good luck fingers crossed awesome Jarryd cheers Andrew ⚔️

Hello Andrew. I don’t want to enter your smoothstar giveaway but I am commenting to tell you that I took sometime to think about the surfskate and I’ve decided to get one after all. I can’t wait to purchase it before the summer so I can finally ride a surfskate. I live in South Carolina in the USA. This video is awesome. I watched a few of your videos so far and they are very informative when it comes to surfskates and I’m also watching surfskate love as well. I’m leaning towards carver cx trucks or smoothstar. I found a board I like with carver cx trucks and these boards are so cool from smoothstar as well. The board that I like with carver cx trucks is 10.54 wide and 31.45 long and that’s in inches by the way. I’m only going to buy the one surfskate though. I don’t want something to long that I can’t control. I have a long board already and it has revenge alpha 2s and it’s a good cruiser board but I’m not able to carve and pump it because it’s to long and I don’t have the proper balance and maneuverability to surfskate it. It’s the Koastal Drifter incase you’re wondering what it is. I don’t think I’ll ever go surfing. I like concrete and yes I’ve heard water isn’t as bad to fall on as concrete. It’s not for me but I do want to learn surf skating though. I love hearing the bearing and wheel rattle and the metal smell and the sensation of skating. Congratulations to the guy for winning the contest Filipe I’m not sure about the spelling though. I just wanted to let you know where I was at on getting a surfskate. It’s been awhile since my last comment.

Hey Trippy:) first of all big shout out to South Carolina and great to meet you. Wow what an awesome comment I got so much to go through with that and I’ll start now. First of all thank you so much for the incredible support and positivity on my video I take a lot of time and work to get these out and I do a lot of research and I only really recommend the Boards I know work for me and will work for other people. It sounds like you are a prior skater which is awesome and long board is where I started from back in the 70s LOL. One thing though the wider the trucks doesn’t necessarily mean a better stability or tighter carve …as the trucks getting narrower at they actually carve sharper and harder and tighter so you probably have to revisit that 10 inch white truck great for electric skateboards but sometimes on these carving board they’re too wide. Now I’ve got nothing against Carver but I did review them on one of my videos 2 years ago you can check the carver the surf skate and SmoothStar comparison video however the Carver boards is far too small in the deck department it’s a tiny area you don’t get the correct foot Stance js also they don’t have scalloped out deep undulation’s on the deck for your feet. I found them more of a wiggle board feel … because what happens is the front and back trucks both turn together and are both as loose as each other on the carver design… giving you a slide / drift effect like a snowboard. With the SmoothStar it’s clearly A different feel more of a drive through the turn as the back truck s don’t turn so rockhard fixed you can’t turn them …. So you’re pivoting from the front truck only which emulates a better carve on a surfboard feel by far no comparison with any other street surf board . In terms of mechanism the new thruster D is the bees knees it’s the absolute Aston Martin nothing comes close in my opinion . I’d say just stay away from the surfskate the mechanism goes right round to 220° just nearly 250° it’s like a shopping trolley on the front of your skateboard and seriously jack knives unless you’re only a young Gromit about 12 I wouldn’t touch a surfskate they actually are quite dangerous. It’s looks at also looks like you’re learning to surf skate for first time and with that I’d really recommend getting the SmoothStar’s the decks are long more that wider though and they provide a very nice Realestate for the learning aspect as well as safety, look I don’t sell them I don’t even get any commissions I just review things if they work for me either then passed on to other people there’s no bias in this particular review or company just I love these SmoothStar boards it is just near perfection. Having said that if you have got the carver give that a go and by all means down the track try and get your hands on a smoothstar and give it a go you’ll really will be blown away. And you should be congratulated Trippy on your passion and enthusiasm to get into the sport to get into the life changing hobby and not only will give you hours of enjoyment but the core workout fitness level will beat any gym workout and balance coordination is critical as you get older this is the best workout and fun thing Sport to do ;) well you’re in the contest Draw regardless so you might win the SmoothStar 👍😀 and then you might even rode and carve that more LOL good luck fingers crossed let me know how you go with the carver and make sure let me know 👍 and comment back here and I’ll get back to you awesome Trippy you have a great end of winter and enjoy your new summer sport ;) awesome stuff cheers Andrew ⚔️

@@zulupenman thanks Andrew. I understand on being in the drawing. I usually don’t win any skateboard giveaway contest which I’ve entered before and didn’t win probably due to the fact that there was like 1000 participants. I entered to win a one off holiday colored board from NHS FUN Factory it’s called NHS SKATE DIRECT now. It was a cool color way. I know that nothing you say can sway me on the carver or the smoothstar. I haven’t bought it yet though. I can still be persuaded in any direction. I haven’t bought it yet and yeah I’m taking everything into consideration . I thought maybe I could add a surfskate to my variety of boards. I got them all except for 3 types of boards. A dancer loaded dervish sama or something like that in general, a downhill speed/ freestyle board, and a slalom type board are not in my collection because I don’t like dancing boards and also I don’t have the money to afford a downhill board and also I can’t find a slalom board. I am wanting to add a surfskate to the collection. I have a Koastal drifter which came from California and that sucker is 60 inches long and 11 wide and it has revenge trucks on it. Revenge trucks turn a lot more than tradition skate trucks do. I know what I’m doing when it comes to maintenance to a board. Like you said I don’t want anything to jack knife on me seeing that I had a terrible accident on the last day of June. I had took the weekend off from work to help my church out with the July 4th plans because we do something big each year for July 4th and I had just finished restoring my Sims Hardcore deck to take with me to the event and I got it home to ride from the skate shop and a few minutes later the front pivot cup broke in half and I started to hear a rattling noise. A couple minutes go by from that point of the pivot cup breaking. I took the board down the hill and the front truck turned really fast to the right and down I go nearly losing my left hand and yes I’ve had a really great surgeon. I’m a little uncomfortable about riding thin boards nowadays because of the accident and yes I’ve rode my warp tail deck around my neighborhood since then and yeah it didn’t feel comfortable going around. I’m comfortable more on a wide deck now. I’m a little bit nervous with the pivoting and the lean of the surfskate to be totally honest with you. I commented about 3 years ago saying that I was getting a surfskate but wasn’t sure about getting the penny high line. I decided against that thing all together but have decided to get a surfskate to add to my collection of boards. Thank you for giving me a heads up with carver trucks. I’m going back to work soon hopefully and that’s the first thing I buy. Skateboards have been my passion since 1996 or 1997 and yeah almost my entire life. I was born in 94. I did take a break from skateboarding around the mid 2000s. Thanks again for the comment and advice I am taking everything in that I’m learning threw surfskate videos and figuring out which is best for me to start with. I won’t be getting a swell tech. Thank you for the entry Andrew. Really thank you I’m not being mean or anything like that.

I'm curious if you've tried out the new waterborne fin system setup and how it would compare? I've been riding it for the past month and it definitely puts the old adapter out to pasture. I'm riding it with the rail adapter as well and cant imagine being able to carve moreyhan what they make possible, but you've really got me ready to start squirrling away for a smoothstar! Great review! Appreciate the graphic at the end, amazing design!

Hey JLima ;) Great to meet you and thank you so much for providing a really really good question. Okay the Waterbourne Company been around for awhile they have a very great innovation team are take my hats off to the team for developing ongoing variations and adaptions to the standard SurfSkate device… however, this was essentially a copy of the SmoothStar device but they’ve also incorporate a rail adapter which I’ll go into more detail. Okay so essentially they’ve come up with this amazing new concept of adjusting the hanger with their different metal spaces (Fin system) , hmm this system looks interesting ..however what worries me is too many moving parts are adjustable when you get the heavy weight of a rider and continue using these things those kind of spaces don’t work very well iis start to wear and provide slippage and potential rattle No.2 I’m concerned about and always have been with the rear rail adapter. Why? Because it actually gives the rear truck more turning and makes you give a slide drift feel in cornering which is very similar to the Carver. I totally dislike this feeling no Surfboard I’ve had has a back tail it slides or drift into turns with a sideways slide .. but that’s essentially what’s happening when both trucks are moving and turning.. so the rail adapter provides even more carving from the rear truck which is a really weird feeling… The closest analogy would be a snowboard sliding… out … a surfboard carve is quite Direct .. powerful s a direct drive from the back fins which SmoothStar provides and emulates that by having a “fixed rear truck” no movement on the bushings. Essentially in theory the Waterbourne fin system it’s a great idea riders can adjust and play with the different settings but for me I like to get on something and it works first time every time accurately with no adjustments to my riding style... I hope that helps JLima … well you’re in the contest Draw fingers crossed good luck five days to go have an awesome day great question any more just fire them down this thread and I’ll get back to you have a great day cheers Andrew ⚔️

@Andrew Penman ok I see what you're saying, very interesting! Would you say that I'd have a more true to surf experience if I remove the rear rail and make sure to level the deck? I know exactly what you mean with the drift, it's hard to predict and has made for a difficult learning curve. It's exciting, but it tends to buck me off if I'm not absolutely on point or basically hanging off the rail. I will say the FIN shim setup seems to be very robust as I have been putting it through the paces. It seems integrated very neatly into the current design enough that i'm not worried about failure. But I've just got it, suppose I'll need to go through a set of wheel and bushings before I can say for sure. Thank you for responding this was very enlightening! ✌️🤙

I wasn’t impressed by SmoothStar’s last truck. It wore out in less than a month, just like a carver C7. You let one person who pumps the torsion spring heavy front-footed, and the spring is worn out and turns to shit. Any springs being stretched side to side, rather than compressed a way a spring is supposed to work, will wear out. I’m not buying SmoothStar’s claim that this new design that stops the springs torsion to some degree, will prevent it wearing out. Again, springs are made to compress, not be yanked side to side. I’ve tested out about every SurfSkate. Yow thus far is the superior design, and precisely because they utilize spring compression as a spring is made to be used; to compress not stretch.
@zulupenman
@zulupenman Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike great to hear from you thank you for your detailed response, sorry for late reply I’m reading them now. Actually Mike you’ve got a bit wrong respectfully… you’ve got it the wrong way around actually .. the Yow Board design the spring is a Radial torsion spring. It opens and closes ..expands and contracts it’s not a “compression” spring so it’s open and close ie just like a peg you put your washing on the line that is a really bad design because overtime the right-hand or the turn to your right with that spring design will always be looser and turn to left more and right hand turns tighter ..as a spring is not equipped to be even both turns ..the SmoothStar is not a “torsion spring” if you watch the video properly and watch every part of it you’ll see that I go through at the start the fact that the SmoothStar is a “compression spring” it only “compresses” it doesn’t expand. I don’t know how anyone could wear one of the SmoothStar springs out I’ve had mine for close to 3 years in the spring has not changed at all ..I’ve seen so many other Boards springs snap and break ..especially at the “right angle pivot point” on the Yow Board design … as their spring is not only a Torsion spring but also a “radial” torsion spring which has this “right angle bend in the spring” to lock it in for its resistance .. in military terms is never used any more. So I’m not sure if this is a genuine comment or maybe a competitors kind of throw in LOL … but nevertheless watch the video properly Mike you’ll see the difference in the spring system in the SmoothStar … now in terms of performance riding and emulating a surf board and general surf training theY ow is more a springy bouncy board which doesn’t emulate surfing at all you can do nice figure 8 calves infinite loops on them and they have a nice rebound but you get into Surfboard and your surfing goes backwards 100% period, ….the SmoothStar is not designed for Super spring back it’s designed for the feeling on a wave and a carve with the fins through the water, Mike I hope you have another go at these SmoothStar boards because you’ll then see what I’m talking about they are second to none, if you’re a surfer you want to surf training tool there’s nothing nothing comes close, matey welcome by the channel great to hear from you thank you for your response I really appreciate it I’m hope I can addressed it properly have a great day cheers Andrew ⚔️

@@zulupenman thanks. If I have some of the spring terminology incorrect that may be. But the description I gave is correct. A SmoothStar relies on a spring to be yanked side to side. I have the Toledo model. It’s as I described: garbage after a month. If the Yow isn’t “compressing”, then I don’t know what it’s doing, but it’s not being yanked side to side and getting stretched out in a month. That simple. I didn’t make my assessment up out of thin air. SmoothStar is garbage. I tried it, it sucks. Maybe the new design is better, but I won’t spend that money on that spring mechanism, even if they added a guard to stop it from overstretching. It’s simply not as good as Yow in my opinion. That simple. If I’m dropping $300 it’s on a Yow. My surfing is progressing in leaps and bounds. Is Yow partly responsible, probably. But there’s other factors certainly, like time in the water, setting goals, and focusing on technique. I’ve got 280 videos up of surfskating. Take a look if you like, you’ll see for yourself that Yow is superior. And it’s still my recommendation for anyone looking to SurfSkate. It’s my honest assessment having ridden various boards over and over. I have to horses in the race either way. Thanks. 🤙✌️

Hey Mike, wow thank you for that awesome response that’s really important on my channel I really need feedback from genuine riders and people who are testing these things that is wonderful thank you so much Mike 🙏 , look in terms of the spring systems the SmoothStar spring is a simple high tensile stainless tension compression spring …just compresses only .. it doesn’t go side to side as it has a vertical lever at the top plate that compresses the spring down (inwards) as you turn the truck left to right .. you can see it in my little video within the movie Mike showing the new thruster D and how it demonstrates that spring movement design …same exact design as a Thruster TH1 compression down only ….its vertically compressed design so that’s the way the design works doesn’t open up at all only when the truck is pointing straight does the spring go back to its normal position …the original TH1 had a greater overhang “ Cantilever” design which essentially you may be able to put more pressure on the spring … so SmoothStar in conjunction with the German designers and Japanese builders completely remodelled the whole truck to make it one unit and no cantilever at all .. and is not a truck bolted on the carving mechanism … but also has that same symbiotic spring system unchanged except for adjustable grub screws and stainless steel screws… although my original TH1 boards are still working perfectly .. having said that I’ve also had my Filip Toledo for three years nearly and it hasn’t missed a beat no spring change no adjustments now toiling nothing to touch .. and I hit it hard every week and I weigh nearly 100kg so I’m not a light rider. Look I tried the Yow and actually bought one Mike as I do love the bounce and the way springs back rebound is much more defined it makes a really nice carves … and infinite loop stuff …but being a surfer since 1975 and knowing the exact feeling I have with fin carving through the water I love my forehand cutbacks more than anything and that’s one of my forte’s of my surfing… but to me is was not the correct feeling and for me it was counter-productive to my surf training. The Yow spring system is what’s called the torsion spring and essentially as I said best analogy is a washing line wooden peg scenario as you open the peg you open the spring…. and as you let go the peg it naturally closes back .. unfortunately, the Yow Board is a “radial” torsion spring …which means that radial is “right angle bend” on the spring which it uses to lock into one end of the truck, now the problem with that is you’ll notice a lot of videos those racials snap and break off you have the constantly put oil and grease on them and clean them which was a pain in the butt for me frankly, ok in my opinion that’s really not the best spring design for these repetitious spring systems Surfskates ..because as I said that opening and closing of a round (radial torsion) spring becomes less resistance over time ..ie the natural closing of the spring becomes more tighter and likewise the natural pulling opening of that spring becomes looser … what you’ll then have is … one turn being looser and you’ll be able to turn tighter to while the other turn will be a firmer turn .. you will hardly notice it … but over the years as it’s a gradual degradation of that spring you’ll feel it when you hop on a new Yow Board line I did .., now that really is critical issue in terms of surf training … when you’re training for surfing you don’t want to have to adjust your turns to that abnormal response on a Surfboard… That’s the only reason I didn’t ride my Yow meraki any more… it was a nice show pony trick Board to do figure eights etc with but it was not representative mice of my current Al Merrick thruster boards and Lost boards I ride, Look I suppose the end of the day Mike it’s what you feel and what you love about it and I do get where you’re coming from with Yow board, but for me it’s all about surf training not so much surf skating … I can’t thank you enough Mike for coming on board and giving us your feedback that is absolutely crucial, I’m going to check out your channel (send me a link to my email address or leave the link here that’ll be awesome ) I’m excited and I’ll sub to you 👍 thank you so much for taking the time Mike to having an awesome discussion and I hope you get into the next SmoothStar contest when they come up and win a new THD SmoothStar that’ll be awesome but as you said you’ve really got one in the fleet so that’s wonderful, the new thruster D is pretty dam impressive I’ll be honest the anti-cantilever shorter finish and the nice more compact unit does provide even better feel and carve Best feeling is super smooth and consistent. Through the turns , have an awesome week Mike thanks so much cheers matey Andrew ⚔️

it's pronounced Filip-eh. Stop calling him Felip and you claim your a surfer and you don't know how to pronounce his name ? Really ? It's difficult to listen to sponsored SmoothStar people on KZbin from Australia because it's like they live in a vacuum and have little access to things. SmoothStar decks are mediocre and the wheels. They need to stick to making trucks and leave the rest to other companies and so do other truck companies. I will put the Thruster D on a Carver- Yago Dora deck with Surfskate Love wheels and Triton bearings.

Hey Koh … you say tomato I say tomarto… I’ve been surfing all my life surfed in hundreds of contests with club members Barton Lynch and Tom Carroll in contest for years done 12 trips to Hawaii. We were all in the same board riders club before he turned professional.… I fully know how to pronounce Filipe but it can be pronounced 4 different ways depending on where you live.. and your language … in France its pronounced the way I pronounced it … .. in Brazil it’s pronounced with an pee on the end and in Portuguese as pronounce the way you said with an A on the end . I don’t think it really matters really splitting hairs. Frankly it sounds better off the tongue my way…Single syllable First name then a 3 syllable surname it rolls better …than Felipay two syllables the 3 in surname … I have no affiliation with SmoothStar I’m an independent reviewer ….dude if you watch my comparison reviews I’ve given your Carver a go along with Kale Brock and we both totally disliked it … as more a Grom toy … the rear wheel should never turn that gives you an incorrect feeling on a wave it’s like a drift effect … unless of course you’re a snowboarder… The carver decks are far too small they’re bloody tiny and I’m only 5 foot 10 and I find them ridiculously small rudimentary and narrow… the SmoothStar decks are huge .. friggin perfect .. Big scalloped out concaves. Putting a SS THD front mechanism on your carver will be an absolute travesty… it won’t lineup with the right foot stance and you’ll end up jackknifing regularly as there is no room fir a 32" wheelbase ..and putting your Surfing back… there’s been so much technology design put into the SmoothStar size decks the wheelbase length and the way the cantilever of the truck works you can’t replicate that by just putting on another deck … I went through that and the video so unless you weren’t watching the video properly… in terms of wheels are 78a are beautifully the carver wheels are rudimentary they slide a bit too much but that’s okay as said because the back trucks turn like the front again it’s like a wiggle board really bad movement and really inferior design training for your surfing, anyhow I appreciate your feedback even though you are an avid Carver rider, all good :) cheers Andrew
