I also worked with cartic4s at Knowle and Dorridge in mid 70s. We could only send a block of seven to Dover or Harwich, our usual destinations, or twenty 60' car flats. I was a BR checker/shunter at the time, working in the private sidings of MAT.

Impressive video. Am I right in thinking that these are all imported cars via the Dollands Moor yard in Folkestone? What happened to the British motor industry?

Not sure which crossing this is in Long Eaton. I do however remember long waits in my car at two crossings in Long Eaton and one in Sawley. I worked there for three years

@trentjunction5676 I remember one lunchtime on my way back to work being held up at this crossing. First one goods train passed, then another going the other way passed by very slowly. It finally stopped with it's last wagon blocking the crossing. A full 10 minutes passed before it moved away. Needless to say I was late back to work.😂😂

Seeing a train of cars that long, that runs at least 4 days a week makes you wonder about the thistle for the raw products to make them or is the metal recycled class 50's from back in the day 🤔🤔

How did one 66 pull all that? Also how come they didn’t move cars forward so less carriers had to be used
@DOCTORDROTT2 күн бұрын
Thats a light load for a 66, they can pull up to 2500 tonnes. These run in fixed sets, that is the reason . I worked on these trains at Newport and Didcot

A load of brand new Toyota Yaris’s. A couple of years ago, my car would have travelled that way, form the factory at Valenciennes.
