The cones in the middle of the road at 2:48 Are for the instalation of traffic lights. Nowadays that would be a couple of weeks of three way traffic lights, & nobody working on it !

Just people everywhere, shops and businesses all open, no smack heads or foreigners everywhere, pubs open, the law was respected.

And with Adsa still in town, along with Bakers, & Grandways. You could just about get every thing you wanted in town. Probaly still free parking as well.

Things were better back then. I remember when everyone called Roger was having a bad time of it, so we all mucked in and were called Roger for one week out of the month, to help spread the load. That wouldn't happen now.

Yes it is, hardly bother with it now. And the council re-introduced parking charges again after 3 years. And then put the price up as well

@@251hanomag it seems to be the fate of many a town these days. I moved from Castleford with my family in 1983 when I was 5 years old to the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area due to my father seeking work after the glass works (I think it was a glass bottle factory) closed down . Is that where Castleford Xscape is now located? Over the time that I have lived Grimsby has become very similar in terms of social problems and also closed, boarded up shops that is seen in today's Castleford.

@@Matt_moran78 No Freeport, & Xscape, are on the old Glasshoughton Pit, & Coke Works sites. Lumbs later United Glass, was the Glassworks. Now housing & a trading estate. T here is a glimpse of it at 0:40 on the video.

@@251hanomag thanks answering my question. It is so long since I was in Castleford that my memory is not quite 100% correct on a few things about the area. The last I remember being in Castleford was in the late 1980's / early 1990's to visit my late Grandma with the rest of my family she was in a care home some where off of Wheldon Road.

It’s not as cheap as you think - £1.99 a gallon is about 44p a litre - which is £1.32 in today’s money!
