Mick Karn first shows up at 7:55, but go right to 10:40 to get the whole segment on sushi! Love how he pronounces it here. :)

In the first series Sandi Toksvig played the part of Ethel Davies, apparently as an “old lady”. But what actually came across was someone in her mid 20s, wearing a granny dress, and talking like a very bad bit part actor from Eastenders. Bizarre... By the later series she had stopped acting, just dressed normally and used her normal voice. But was still “Ethel”......

@jeffrey44 Many of TVS saturday morning shows and "other segments" placed in to show, sometimes it was a gameshow etc. that segment was not part of NO73 main programme, it was addition programme within No73, it would be classed in the same lines as Cartoon.

I feel sorry for the poor TVS sound man in trying to keep up with Su and Pookiesnackenburger's Edward! I'm guessing Sandi Toksvig dropped Ethel's accent when the programme moved to Maidstone and the more familiar telephone number of Maidstone 600000, a number the Maidstone Studios still use! Incidentally, has anyone attempted to stick their head between their legs and whistle up their Barcelona?

I only remember the series Maidstone onwards and the Sandwich Quiz was there though but what a mess.... this came across like they didn't know what they were doing and trying too hard at the same time... how it got to Maidstone though I don't know...and thank goodness Sandi dropped the original Ethel voice...and the boogie with the band...wha??? None of em could play a note but funny! 😆..2/5 for effort 🤨🤣

To be fair, it wasn't just this show, TV was pretty bad back then, people are nostalgic about it but it was mostly junk. No change there to today really, it's just modern junk now :D

Red Devil9 correct, there was good stuff but mostly it was crap, just like today. Every era has been a mixture of a bit of good, and mostly average/crap stuff - TV, music, films etc. Very nice to see at least two people who have not fallen into the trap of insisting that everything back then (whenever “then”) might be, was wonderful and everything now is crap.
