What's the thing about specific frames? How can a specific frame change the outcome?

@@CristianTrainafrom what I know, computers are fully incapable of true random, so RNG (Random Number Generation) is effectively deterministic based on specific criteria. What waiting for specific frames does is manipulate RNG in such a way that it produces a desired result. Think of it like rolling a die and knowing _exactly_ what it will land on if thrown in a specific way. Any game with any sort of remotely random element probably makes use of RNG. In Mario Kart’s case, what items are given out of Item Boxes are likely determined by RNG. If you can figure out the generation criteria, you can effectively read the RNG seed. DS/3DS era Pokémon, alongside BDSP, are know to use the system clock to initialise the RNG Seed, for example. In the case of a TAS, however, save states are most likely used to brute force RNG for a desired result instead of actually reading the RNG state. In the Playback, the multiple resets for the brute forced RNG would look like the Player is just sitting there doing nothing.

Sometimes it seems like in the final lap theres a pow that slows down all the other racers. Do you manipulate for that as well? Similarly, did you ever have to redo cups for an easier "seed"?

Most of the time I didn't manipulate for items like the pow, but on a few tracks like Koopa Cape and N64 Bowser's Castle, the items on lap 3 are very intentional. There were only a couple times I had to restart a track because my setup on lap 3 was too bad to win.
