I have a shelter mix of American staffordshire terrier and 4 other european hunting dogs. He is the most affecionate,sweetest and calmest dog I ever had,but boy does he switch gear, when outside!! Nose down and off he goes 🙈🙈 full speed, ears closed ,in the tunnel 😂😂

Pitbull and amstaff were same breed in 1800th. In early 1900 the american kennel club didnt want to have connectins to a fighting dogs so they made ”pitbull” that continiued the fighting journay and amstaff that became registered dog and became more of a show line of a pitbull

But they weren’t, Tudor dogs which were the majority of the first akc registered dogs were apbt and fighting dogs

Am Staff and Am Pit are the same breed. The Am Staff was bred to look more like a family dog and look more like a competition show dog and the Am Pit was bred to look more like a rugged guard dog. Nonetheless, they are both the same breed and both offshooted to have different looks, just different looks in color. I had an Am Staff once and he was very very hyper and energetic. I had to go running a mile or two with him everyday just to get some of his antsyness under control. One time while running around a huge block in Rialto, I had my dog on a choke lease, some idiot’s Am Pit jumped out of his car window and went to attack my Am Staff. My Am Staff beet the crap out of his Am Pit and towards the end of the fight, my Am Staff had the Am Pit jaw gripped by the his but and was pulling him backwards while the Am Pit began to cry. My Am Staff was basically pulling the Am Pit around by his but backwards. I believe my Am Staff was telling him, “I’m stronger than you and I’m here to fight you and pin you down all day.” The Am Pit was a lot bigger than my Am Staff too. My Am Staff also beat the crap out of a big bear looking Mastiff breed one time too. The Mastiff did pretty good, he used his long mane to his advantage, but then my Am Staff started nipping his legs little by little to the point where the Mastiff wanted to allure my Am Staff into a jujitsu wrestling match and then the Mastiff decided to bail out. I saw the mastiff the next day limping and the Mastiff started barking at me and was mad at me, but as soon as he saw me take out my Am Staff for a run, he shut up and left. From that point on, that Mastiff would always bark at me when my Am Staff was not around. The Mastiff was probably telling me, “I hate you. You are on the enemy’s side.” My Am Staff was given to me because a friend of mine could no longer keep him, as his apartment lease did not allow pets. My Am Staff was about 1 and a 1/2 years old when my friend gave him to me. Part of the reason why my Am Staff was such a good clever intelligent strong and VERY FAST (VERY FAST) fighter was because he grew up wrestling and fighting with one of his litter-brothers his first year. My Am Staff and his litter-brother were always wrestling and fighting everyday and all day, all day, it was his hobby. Even I had to wrestle with my Am Staff almost every day and he loved it. I’m glad I wrestled my Am Staff a lot because that made him recognize my smell (my scent) and not attack me so fast when he lost his temper against other dogs. My Am Staff encountered a dogo Argentino once, and I tapped him on the but like saying, “No, let’s get out of here,” but my Am Staff was so mad, that he almost bit me. Luckily my Am Staff sniffed my face before taking a bite out of it and calmed down and said, “Oh, it’s you. But can’t you see that this Dogo Argentino thinks he’s better than me. Can I show him who the true real boss is here???? Please????” So I responded, “Sorry, Rocky, but I will only let you fight if you get attacked by some loose dog. It’s only fair for you to defend yourself. But if you’re not under attack, then it is not necessary.” I spoiled the hell out of my Am Staff. I would feed my Am Staff fresh grilled chicken, steak, raw spinach, and mangoes. My Am Staff would always steal my mangoes. He loved mangoes. My Am Staff beat the crap out of lots of Am Pits and big dog breeds that attacked him. Even I had a hard time believing it because he was not as big as those dogs and he was still not fully grown into adulthood. Someone shot my Am Staff in my backyard to death when I went to vacation to Mexico, so I don’t know how big of a size my Am Staff could have grown to be. My Am Staff could have grown to be a lot bigger, nonetheless his strength and energy and SPEED was insane and amazing! One time a little toy poodle started barking at my Am Staff and he ignored her. It seems like he didn’t really care for girls. Another time a beautiful Lassie type breed was in heat and was trying to get my Am Staff to mate with her, but he wasn’t interested. All he cared about was going for runs and fighting and protecting my house and sleeping with me in my bed and watching TV with me. I told him, “Hey, man, that Lassie girl is beautiful, how can you pass her down like that?!?! What’s wrong with you!!!!” I’ve learned to understand that they truly are the same breed and to never underestimate the size of either of these breeds. The only female that my Am Staff almost fought was a female Dogo Argentino, but it was because she attacked him. Luckily, there was a fence, but they were both about the same size. I’m not into dog fighting and dog fighting is inhumane, but Am Staff’s are very fast and strong breeds. I don’t think I would ever want to have an Am Staff ever again. It is too much work and too much responsibility and very risky. He was always ripping off the faces of cats that intruded our backyards almost every week, I must have found maybe 20 dead cats in my backyard (I own cats now and don’t find it as a fond memory at all). The Am Staff breed is just as serious as the Am Pit breed and they are really the same breed, with very slight offshoot breeding purposes, mostly in looks, but their genetic anatomy and personality are essentially the same. Never underestimate an Am Staff. In fact, please don’t ever own one. They are too dangerous and too risky and too much work. I love these dogs, but never again. It’s too risky. I don’t know why people who don’t really need one get one. I would only get one if I lived in a very secluded rural land in which the police can’t get there on time to stop burglars and crime, as a guard dog, and that sort of thing. But if you live in a normal safe neighborhood, do yourself a favor and get a golden retriever or something more of that nature.

They are not the same breed everything you said was wrong they were the same dog very briefly because the akc didn't want to register the apbt because of dog fighting breeders started calling their dogs anerican staffordshire terier so their dogs could get registered under the akc and then somewhere along the lines somone crossed something into the dog to make to make it shorter more stocky and have more colors,they have diffrent builds too ,lets say the anerican pitbull terier is bruce lee and the American Staffordshire terier is a body builder the same applies to the ,the american staffordshire has a more bulldog look and the American Pitbull Terrier has more of a resemblance to a red coon hound

Here is a little history, the American pit bull terrier was registered in the akc in 1936 calling it the staffordshire, then in 1971 they added American giving you the American staffordshire terrier. If you condition an amstaff it literally looks like an American pit bull terrier.

Riley was the best dog I ever had. An Amstaff mix he was a training beast. There was no trick or activity he didn’t love to learn. He was great in a lead, and a joy to go hiking with. He was also the most super sweet dog you’ve ever met as long as you were a human. That being said, I’ve never seen such a fearful dog with other dogs, sheep, a goat once, and even a horse from 200-300 ft away. Id also mention the allergies were a thing. I mean Riley has his own dermatologist and a custom cocktail of immunosuppressant therapies delivered via injection every 2 weeks. Allergies I believe are a common thing with Am staffs so make sure your prepared mentally and financially for that because money comes cheep but looking at your dog asking you to not give them an injection with puppy-dog eyes has a cost. All that may sound bad, and maybe it is but I’d get an amstaff again in a New York minute. They are wonderful dogs just know what you’re getting into and as the video said…socialize socialize, socialize.

Could you explain all difference between English staffy dogs vs amstaff dogs pls? I own an English staffy dog purebred yet receive the odd comments on how she looks like an amstaff... I know she can't be as I have papers!! Thanks

English Staffordshire Bull Terriers are generally much shorter than American Staffordshire Bull Terriers. The English Staffordshire is where Amstaffs came from... the English Stafford is the foundation breed for both the Amstaff and APBT, and an older breed. English Staffords generally have a bigger head as well.

Only 1.15 in and already false misconceptions . The Amstaff was born purely of the APBT in the 1930's and was primarily only a 'name' to be accepted as the governing canine council did not want to accept the word Pit in to its register - so American Staffordshire Terrier was born - the Amstaff breed standard was written on some of the best APBT of the time. Whilst it's true the Amstaff has since been primarily bred for show , the stud books were opened in the 70's to allow fresh APBT blood in as the gene pool was so relatively small. The stud books were then closed permanently . To this day there are still many dual registered APBT/Amstaff within accepting governing canine councils. Neither the Amstaff nor APBT were ever bred to be a large dog and dogs seen today that are over standard are being wrongly portrayed as the breed ideal. Please. If you're going to post such videos to the masses then at the bare minimum do you fact checking without preconceived ideals. You do both breeds more harm with such falsely portrayed personal beliefs .
