literal lock jaw is a myth yes but that was always a misunderstanding. What it's typically referring to is that once a Staffy has a hold of something it REALLY wants, they're less likely than many other breeds to let go. many terriers are similar due to their history of use in hunting. Staffy's differ in that they're generally more muscular than other terriers and their jaws being generally wider gives them a strong hold. in general though they're actually less likely to act in such a way unless deliberately trained to than some others but their imposing look doesn't do them any favours in the eye's of rumours.

I volunteer at a rescue in Australia and we have so many Staffy and Staffy-mixed breeds coming through to be rehomed. I'd take them all if I could - now living with my third Staffy and they are the best damned breed around.

Riley was the best dog I ever had. An Amstaff mix he was a training beast. There was no trick or activity he didn’t love to learn. He was great in a lead, and a joy to go hiking with. He was also the most super sweet dog you’ve ever met as long as you were a human. That being said, I’ve never seen such a fearful dog with other dogs, sheep, a goat once, and even a horse from 200-300 ft away. Id also mention the allergies were a thing. I mean Riley has his own dermatologist and a custom cocktail of immunosuppressant therapies delivered via injection every 2 weeks. Allergies I believe are a common thing with Am staffs so make sure your prepared mentally and financially for that because money comes cheep but looking at your dog asking you to not give them an injection with puppy-dog eyes has a cost. All that may sound bad, and maybe it is but I’d get an amstaff again in a New York minute. They are wonderful dogs just know what you’re getting into and as the video said…socialize socialize, socialize.

Whatever. I use my shock collar! I use the beep 85% of the time. Vibrate the other 10% and shock the other 5. It has its purposes and my dog is just fine!

We have just adopted a 6 year old Staffie from a shelter. He is the sweetest, nicest dog I have met. Energetic to a fault. I am looking forward to reading the guide you offer. As a 70 year old man he can be a nightmare to walk. However I will not give in!!

We had the most loving, gentle, sweetheart, a female staffy that we rescued. She used to be a breeding dog. We fell in love with her. She loved us both and also any dog in the dog park - very loving nature. She had a few fights with street cats and she always lost, poor pupp :) Unfortunately, this beautiful angel got a brain tumour and passed after 3.5 years having her. We miss her very much. She was the sweetest girl, an angel. I believe we will reunite when the time comes.

I made it to the 3:11 mark; I just can't bear to hear any more of this cruelty! I have an American Staffordshire Terrier, and he is the best dog I've ever had! It absolutely kills me to know how these dogs were abused, and also, the bulls that they were set upon to "tenderize," OH MY GOD!

Accurate. Very accurate. I owned an AmStaff. He was what is called Diebo breed of AmStaff. 55 pounds. Extremely loyal and powerful. And obedient. He required training. Duh. And lots of play time which we both enjoyed ❤

Thanks for the informative vid - we have a 9 month old staffy and started her on a mini educator a couple of months ago for long recall when doing trails since we will be taking her everywhere with us camping. She does great and its such an effective tool when used appropriately. I like the way you show other uses for the vibrate function as well. 👍

When considering the pros of using an E-collar, I thought about situations where the dog needs to be prevented from endangering itself (e.g., chasing cars) or others (attacking other dogs). However, I also believe that there are always other approaches that can be explored. And unfortunately, I'm certain that most owners would opt for using an E-collar instead of investing time in training or understanding their dog's behavior.

Brilliant video Staffy dog, and a very important one, I personally don't agree with electric collars, if you're willing to put in the hard work, your dog will be well trained without the need for those devices.

I think you are spot on. Two years ago I was asked to step in to handle a 3 1/2 month old Malinois who was already becoming too much for the first time owners. First point, totally irresponsible of a breeder to hand over a Malinois to a person who had NEVER had a dog and had NOT done any homework on the breed. Second point, the husband just went out and bought the dog without first discussing owning a dog with his wife who was then expected to just get on with trying to raise it as he went out to work. The wife proclaimed to 'love' the dog but just didn't have the time nor wish to train it. The pup spent way too much time in the crate and exploded with energy every time they brought him out. I tried to explain that training IS love. When I asked why they had chosen this breed the husband told me 'They are good-looking and strong' 🙄 I think you are right in that the popularity of these magnificent creatures will be their downfall as there are very few of us able to give the proper direction and training to them. I hope I am wrong.

Our one and only staffy (Boss) had to be put down b/c of an enlarged heart. Vets said he only had a couple months to live. He lived for two years!, unfortunately it was so much medication we decided to put him down😢. I will forever miss him. Whenever I see a staffy it it makes me remember what a beautiful dog he was. RIP

I have a dutch x mal. He can play with other dogs, and lets people caress him, but will go nuts at the sight of a squirrel or a creepy person in the street. I mean nuts, like almost able to drag me down. I believe he is as strong as a pit bull and could easily bite, so he is never off leash in public, but also responds well to commands. I don't think some of the other "strong" breeds are as trainable. If I didn't train him he would probably be like, a wolf. I would not have got him if I had not already trained a couple shepherds.

My Am Staff doesn’t bark ever either. She snarls on walks when we encounter small shitzus or lhaso apsos or those tiny terriers everyone got after Paris Hilton got them but other than that she doesn’t bark or growl ever. She talks a lot. She’s always trying to communicate her needs but mama can understand and knows what she wants/needs every time. She loves to snuggle and will paw at your arm if it is in the way so she can snuggle up to your chest and face. She’s a very sensitive girl. Very sensitive. If her daddy goes into a store without her but I’m in the car she still cries like we beat her. It’s embarrassing because she’s so loud and so upset.

My incredibly handsome, intelligent & athletically superior Staffordshire/Chocolate Lab mix, Bullet, will steal your heart! Having never met a stranger, every woman who might see his NERF DOG catching skills while accelerating from still to 30 yards away in 2.2 seconds, it looks as if Bullet is racing the NERF DOG frisbee itself! He launches 10' easily & judges his closing distance accordingly & with an uncanny accuracy, whether easing up with a toss a breeze might cause to float a little OR increasing speed even more to snag the disc 3" off the ground! Errant throws by Dad, are made legit if he scoops up a poor toss on the 1st bounce. Seriously, it's obvious to a passer-by, several have commented on it. I'm editing multiple sessions for youtube public viewing, from those recordings made from play time. I got the 1st pick of this litter, & I saw this Virgo 9/12 "runt" of his litter, (5 sibling pups & Bullet) who saw this Virgo 9/6 runt (2 sisters 1 brother) of my litter. He ran into my arms & immediately owned my heart! 4 years together in Nov & my 3 1/2 yr old 60 lb StudPup, Bullet Brindle Henderson will greet any woman with so much love & joy, guys will get a friendly wag & nuzzle. But, hearing a woman call out his name, melts his heart like butter on warm toast. I'll try to capture that, too. I'm a 63 yr old Disabled USAF Veteran, with the worlds greatest StudPuppy ever born!!l❤🐾 Virgo 9/6, also the runt of my litter

Staffies are homeless, why.... but they are such clean dogs, with almost no shedding, they learn all things so quickly, and they love to please all people and I mean all of them, they are gentle tanks. Their own human is their VIP, they love their family to the moon and back. My staffy boy was so understanding with me. We have been active daily since he was two months old and came home. After about a year of active life, I suddenly had to have surgery and wasn't able to walk and train him while recovering from it. He had no problem spending time at home with me, he didn't start destroying things. Then my dad died, and my dog helped me through it, by just being by my side and kissing the sadness away. They are full of energy, baravery life force, intelligence, understanding, fun, happiness, and love.

we have an American pitbull, we think, a rescue so we're not sure of breeding. However, she looks all bull terrier, and her personality is pitbull plus! Loving, affectionate, willing to please, strong as heck, a digger, a jumper and a puller! At one year old she is full of energy and whip smart, smart enough to be a total brat if she's bored. Your channel is exactly what we needed! Thank you.
