Your videos are a huge help! I have a TCL 55" S405 LED I have a black screen with no back lights. I can see the menu during a flash light test and still have audio. Im guessing the LED drivers bad. What do you think? Wheres the LED driver? Please help Thanks!

If ALL LED's are out, wouldn't that point to a failure of the power board as it is the common source of power for all LED strips ? Are the LED strips wired like christmas tree lights, where if one burns out they all go out until the defective on is replaced ? I wish I could find a schematic of my TV to see how they are hooked up and powered.

I know this is an old comment but it depends. some sets are like christmas lights where they all go out and others, just one strip can go out, others just one bulb.

It has been stated if one led bulb goes out so does the rest of the strip. Like Christmas lights, all are connected in series,

Just got a donor TCL tv, board puts out 88v to leds, just one strip. However the strip just turns on for 1 second then turns off quickly. With the tester, the screen shows 112v on the little display. Tv still shows video, will try to replace led strips first but I feel like it’s more of an issue with the power supply. Tv is 2021 so it’s not heavily used. Led strips are pure white and no burned out leds, they all fire up with the tester.

I have a JVC LT-42P789 flat screen. Sound is fine, but no picture. I can see the unit come on & the screen lights up, but even with a flashlight test, no image. I am at a loss. I also have a TCL L40FHDF12TA 40" tv whth the same problem, only the TCK shows the "TCL" logo when turned on then nothing. No indication of any image. I REALLY don't want to go purchase a new tv if either of these can be fixed for cheap. Any suggestions?

I have an ONN TV and I have it apart and found a bulged capacitor near the backlight output. The issue with the TV is it turns on and then if cold it runs about 20 mins then the backlight goes out but if you shine a flashlight on the screen you can see the picture. I found the bulged cap but they mounted it with this white rubber and the plastic on the cap is brittle and is flaking off. I have some caps I will try.

Hi ShopJimmy, question, My Samsung is restarting when switching from one HDMI to Another, after replacing every board and ribbon cables, I found out the top LED strip is dim. How do I disconnect the faulty backlight strip wires from the power supply board? I got two connectors with 16 wires each. I realize cutting them off won't do. Is there a hack for it? Thanks

Tcl 65 inch. Used tester. 5 out of 6 strips with all leds working. 1 led with none of the leds working. Alexa turn on the TV. Leds flash momentarily. If I disconnect the bad strip, might the other strips remain on? Grasping at straws.😢

I have a Vizio XVT373SV. I have sound but no picture. I’ve done the flashlight test which reveals there’s picture but only with the flashlight. I’ve replaced the power board with no fix. Hey Jimmy, Btw Love the channel. I have a Vizio D40U-D1-LTTETVDS. I bought it second-hand and it worked for a short while when I had it. Then it started this strange habit of flashing all these different colors, red, blue, green, black and white when I started it up. It even did this once when I was watching tv on it. I've been told this is some kind of test program but I've done numerous factory resets and nothings changed. I've been told it could possibly be the T-Con Board, but this was never confirmed. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on what it might be

Is the little pocket transformer necessary if I'm replacing all of the led strips? I could see if I were just going to replace a single led or something. I have a volt meter, trying to do this on the cheap because the tv is 5 yrs old or more and they keep going down an down in price for new units.

Sony 65X900C. When I got it last week, I was getting 4 red flashes from the standby indicator and no LED backlighting. Looked around online, seemed to indicate a problem with one or more individual LEDs. I disassembled the TV to access the LED boards and ultimately found that they were all 100% working. When I plugged everything back in again, I was now seeing an alternating amber/green light in the standby indicator. This is apparently a code for firmware/software update. I used a USB drive to upgrade to the latest version per Sony's site. Upon boot up after the upgrade, the LED backlights come on, but the panel now seems to be stuck in Purity mode (alternating red, green, blue, white, gray). This is the behavior whether the main board is connected to the LVDS or not. I have tried various reset procedures I've found online, nothing seems to fix it. Since this happens without the main board connected, is it safe to assume that it's a bad T-Con board? Thanks for your time and attention.

I have a 39" LG for which 1-2 years ago I replaced one of the LED strip. Now it happend again, but when I checked the LEDs one by one with a multimeter, all light up. In fact I saw them flashing for an instant, like the board is trying to light them up. Then I checked the cables going to the backlights and I saw 0V, but with what it looks like a short pulse of about 12V DC. How could I troubleshoot/fix the problem? Any advice?

I am troubleshooting a Samsung UN50H6203AFXZA. I did the flashlight test and determined that there is no backlight. The voltages seemed higher than that for the 32H in your video. I measured 386v D+ to D-, and millivolts on the sense pins S+ to S-. Is that normal, is my power supply/led driver good? I think it is, but was wondering about the high voltage.

I got a similar issue with my TV. I have 5 rows of LED strips. There are only 3 power lines going to the LEDs - so the top two rows are in parallel, and the bottom two rows are in parallel. The middle strip is powered by its own wire to the Power Supply. Using the LED Tester when I test those that are in parallel, one strip lights up but the other does not. When I unplug the row, then both light up. Hmmm. Messing with the set, I started off with a black screen but now the power supply will power all but the top row. This is the second time I have been in my TV and now I suspect that there is a current limiting issue causing the power supply to cut back on the voltage. To further suspect this, when the screen was black I found 24v on all three power lines to the Back Light LEDs. When the Back Light LEDs would light up, I found 38v. I've ordered a complete set of LED strips and hope that fixes it.

How much voltage to be exact needed to turn on the LED backlight? My TV model: KDL-65W850C has no backlight. I measured the voltage from its power supply and I can get 125V DC. The board indicates from 173V to 230V. There's a sound.

Looks like the back light failure, it needs new led strips, you will have to find an engineer to replace the led strips, but you need the power supply board checked just to make sure there is no fault there.

Each LED requires low voltage (usually 3.4V or so depending on the specific LED). When you put many LEDs in series in a strip, the entire stop needs a higher voltage.

Very nice Vid.Thank you. I should repair the LCD-TV from my grandparents. It's a 2005 Universum FT-LCD 8154 (identical to Hitachi 32LD6200). The problem is that after switching on only 2 Seconds you can see a perfect picture (no stripes or bad colours) but then the backlight switches off. The power light stays green and the sound is absoluely fine. The screen is absolutely dark but with a flashlight shining on the screen you can recognize a picture. We have changed the main internal power supply from the LCD-TV but with no success. They love their LCD-TV and we really want to repair it to avoid waste to our environment. Does somebody have an idea? I would replace in the next step the Backlight inverter board. Is this a good idea? Thank you in advance.

So I have a question. 2 repair people have looked at it and cannot figure out what is wrong without tearing it apart and I dont want anyone to until i can figure out what is wrong. So my problem is this... I was playing on my computer then turned off my pc, tried to turn off the tv and boom, I couldn't turn it on or off anymore after that, then I can still see where it says hdmi 1 on the screen and I can see the screen works fine still. But the remote doesnt work, the touchpad on the tv doesnt work and just has a red blinking light when I press any button on the remote or touch pad. When I turn on my computer on the same hdmi 1 input, it doesnt show up or anything. What is wrong with my idiot tv? samsung 2012 model smart tv

TESTING THE LED STRIPS WONT TELL YOU NOTHING UNLESS YOU STRIP DOWN THE TV AND TEST EACH STRIP ON ITS OWN, IF YOU PUT THE LED TEST LEADS TO THE CABLES WITHOUT REMOVIN THE SCREEN IT WILL STILL LIGHT UP THE STRIPS SO YOU WILL SEE SOME LIGHT COMING THROUGH THE BACK OF THE TV , BUT THEIR COULD BE JUST ONE OR TWO LEDS NOT LIGHTING ON SOME STRIPS , WHICH IS ENOUTH TO PREVENT THE BACK LIGHT TURNING ON DURING NORMAL USE OF THE TV , SO IT IS BEST TO STRIP THE WHOLE TV DOWN AND TEST EACH INDIVIDUAL STRIP , DOING ANY OFF WHAT THIS VID SAYS WILL TELL YOU NOTHING AS YOU HAVE STATED ABOUT THE VOLTAGES ALSO , THE TV CAN SHUT THEM DOWN WHEN IT DETECTS A PROBLEM WITH THE STRIPS , SO BEST WAY IS TESTING STRIPS ONE BY ONE

I don't think you need to know the voltages to test this. With a VOM if you get voltages in the milivolt range, that's not enough to power the LED's and the power board is probably bad. Duh.

I can buy a 2nd hand tv for 50 dollars instead of buying your led tester. Lame price on that thing. If you only spend 100 dollars on a cheap Walmart led tv. You are not gonna want to put all kinds of money into fixing it.
