Big Woods Bucks

Tracking a Whitetail Buck in the Big Woods of the North Country is an experience very few deer hunters have Had the opportunity to do. To track a Whitetail buck in the vast wilderness where few hunters go, takes woodsmanship skills as well as the tenacity and persistence to be able to endure the cold and snow. When tracking one of these ghosts of the north you will be reading the story of his life written in the snow in front of you. Your task becomes unraveling his secrets to be able to outwit him on his own turf.

Thank you so much for making and sharing this mini documentary Hal!!..This video explains it plain and simple, you cant explain what it's like to someone who has never hunted the big woods and the big bucks of the northern wilderness areas, and I personally always loved it and miss it very much.Excellent video of what big woods hunting in northern New England is really all about and what it means to us true big buck hunters and Big woods trackers.After my three year absence from living in north central Vermont, I will finally be making the trek back north from my home in the Western N.C. Mountains for a two week Deer hunting trip in Vt. and mainly Northern N.H. this November, and to spend time with family of course.I miss the snow and the big woods tracking in The White Mtns of N.H. especially and I am very excited to 2 weeks to return and experience it all once again.Thanks again

video says it all, either you love it or hate it. For me , I love it, my first hunt was my high school graduation gift from parents to go up to the north woods, fell in love with it , that was back in 1986, for a long time I didn't miss a season, most of my hunting crew no longer goes, I go solo these days, only miss couple times for family responsibly. But I'll be up this fall, 3rd week, asual, praying for snow. making memories. I love this type of hunting. Gene NJ

Hal, Awesome video, i absolutely love everything about the way you are hunting. Im beginning to develop a theory through trends i have noticed. Guys who are obsessive about a tough style of hunting, and hunting in general, tend to be left handed (as i am too), and its tough to tell but it looks like you are a lefty to.

Hi Hal, was thinking of setting up a stand on a big bog with great visability up north, You think that's time well spent for a buck when there is no snow to track or a waste of time? Deer in general seem to use the bog....

Do you guys ever bone out on the spot? Or quarter it at least? Do that, throw the meat in a quality pack in game bags, cut the antlers or whole head off. Pack it all out , soooo much easier than yanking one out. Done plenty of both. Maybe its not lega therel for some weird reason. In the Rockies , a guy would NOT shoot bucks or bulls, if you had to drag the whole thing out.
@bigwoodsbucks1
@bigwoodsbucks1 4 жыл бұрын
The main reason we drag out is the northeast has such an emphasis on body weight. It helps wildlife biologists determine the health of a deer heard, and also, we don't tend to grow the great big antlers here. so a 200 LB buck is kind of like a 200" buck somewhere else. Plus we have the access, a lot of logging currently happening and logging from the past so, roads are abundant. Just a whole different culture up here in maine.
@montuckyman4982
@montuckyman4982 4 жыл бұрын
@@bigwoodsbucks1 Right on! It's probably similar to the U.P where I grew up. But on a larger scale. One can find remote places but your seldom over a half mile from some sort of road. I made it back this year, followed a huge track in my old stomping grounds. Stayed at the old camp. Loved it! Love the video.

Been hunting the mountains of Jackman area since I was 16, now 44, bagged a few big ones.. they’re all big up there, pretty easy to drag a 200+ lb buck on snow, though I haven’t done it in 15 years or so, a buddy of mine hunted up there with us guy was a freak of nature met Larry Benoit after he read how to bag, and his average in ten years was 225, and this guys attention span was about two minutes, so Hal you’re absolutely right, anyone can do it, and to just put it out there, many think Hal Blood is the best whitetail hunter in Maine, and I believe it, keep on tracking my brother of the woods, God Bless
