This is very helpful and I understand the mechanics of the Server Manager but my friends cannot join for it says "not responding" in the STEAM. and I pretty much think i followed the steps in port forwarding yet it still says that for them, any tips on how to make my friends access my server? or Is it because they are not my friends yet in Steam?

I've answered a few of these questions already, hopefully you saw that but in case you didn't, That usually indicates that the port is locked, or the firewall is blocking connections

Why is the server consuming all 15gb RAM? Although the server is empty and no mods!

What map are you running? It should use 1-6 gb depending on mods n map, if it uses that much i would reinstall as its corrupted

Sadly theres an issue with steam and ark, you wont always see it in the ingame list, add it to www.arkservers.net and join from there

Often a problem when your character has too many items on them, too many engrams unlocked, or mod data on your character.. It's the error you get when your character file is too large for your client to load fast enough so it fails the 'reliable' connection check.

Are you using any mods? usually thats a common issue while downloading mods, if thats the case then just let it download all mods and the try again. i will have a guide on modded servers soon!

I did some reading and and apparently lots of people have had this problem ever since they added cross play between epic games and steam versions so I might just try wait for a patch from the devs.

this part is the easy part...the part you fail to show is how sucky it is for friends joining your server using the public ip in ASM. No matter how many ports I forward, no matter how many query ports i try, friends are always getting the "Server is not responding" message in steam server search. You can obviously see your own server in the list and join in game easily because you're connecting straight through your local ip and not the public ip that the friends join with.

My post probably came across a little shitty so apologies for that, spent most of yesterday trying to figure out why my friends couldnt get connected even though all my port forwarding is correct in my router (I'm a field engineer, system analyst and network engineer btw) I know what I'm doing when it comes to that. My point was you will obviously see your server in game when running from your LAN showing up in your favourites. The problems come from friends or randoms trying to join your game using the Public IP address. Could you not maybe show friends joining your server or going to a port checker to show your forwarded ports are indeed "open" etc. I've seen dozens and dozens of posts with ppl all experiencing the same problem of friends not being able to join

@@TonyTurbo78 my best recommendations would be to tell them to add your server from steams own server list, alternatively you can add it to www.ark-servers.net, they can join from there aswell. Sadly sometimes ark and steam are not friends.

Yes, all you need to do is install the dedicated server, and just copy your save into the servers files, and it will load. However all settings and configurations will now be different so make sure u go through it all so its to your liking!

Did you get the console to pop up when you clicked start? If so double check the name, so its actually called the intended name! Also, make sure firewall is allowing it plus ports!

@@MrBazibaz yes it correctly labelled my server name. The only thing I can think of is the port forwarding from my router. I've never really been able to set that up properly or check if its working. My router is an ASUS rt ac66u. The port forwarding screen has a number of fields to fill in when adding a new port: source IP, port range, local IP, local port and protocol. I dont know the difference between source IP and local IP, I don't know what goes in local port either. I think I did the port range correctly, and protocol is either UDP or TCP, depending on the port range. Edit: also if I did set it up correctly, and my computer is both running the server and my own game, do I still click "join ark" on the home screen once ARK has launched? Does running it from Epic Games make a difference vs Steam? Thanks

@@Pintopolis13 source and local ip is the ip of your server machine. Protocol i usually select both, and the port is the one u have in the asm window, i will make a port forward tutorial shortly. If its a epic game server you have to allow connections specifically to them in the asm window, however then you cannot run a modded server as all mods at this stage are via the steam workshop! So thats the biggest difference between them. If u play on epic then make sure u checked that box! Im at work so cannot doublecheck its name, but its in the first category on the right hand side under the auto save feature!

@@MrBazibaz Update: so I've actually managed to find the server on the list when I click "join ark", but now I'm getting "joining failed server timeout" error. I also tried using the console command in the 1 player mode but that didn't seem to go anywhere
