What’s the benefit of the wire vs regular levers? Wire better for frozen ground? Less area to freeze down?

You mean how hard are they to set? Not hard, about the same as the regular lever traps. Springs are strong, but you can definitely hand set them.

They haven’t so far. I’ve been using this trap for 2 seasons now and it’s as good as new.

Why would you want a HEAVY trap? Why? I think there's some hype here over the weight of this trap. And depend on bow wax for a consistent pan tension. A trap only has to be so heavy and durable. I'll take an MB 550 any day.
