@@dawna8695 You're hilarious. Sumitomo is a massive conglomerate, consistently ranking among the world's largest companies. They made $46 billion US dollars in their last fiscal year. This Buffalo plant is a nothing burger. Recognizing that Trump's planned tariffs will not make a US plant fiscally viable, they're going to take that operation to a country with a friendly tax base. You're about to bear witness to how regular people are adversely affected when a country takes a posture that only benefits the ultra rich. Every economist on the planet has said Trump's intention will severely hurt the US economy. It's not brain surgery to understand it. Enjoy the ride to Hell.

Manufacturing in the US cannot compete with manufacturing done where it's cheaper to operate and manufacture. Manufacturing in New York State certainly cannot compete with manufacturing done outside the US in locations where it's cheaper to operate and manufacture. Even with tax credits and tax rebates and breaks , New York State is still a costly place to manufacture and do business.

Hochul and James declaring war on Trump was probably the last nail in the coffin for the plant. New York already had a hostile environment towards business and it's only going to get worse with this attitude. It's funny how the loyal will complain about a few million in state aid to the company, but will give a pass to the billions wasted on the migrants. Blaming Trump for the hostile environment your state government created isn't going to work this go around.

Not only that prepare to pay higher taxes as Project 2025 (now admitted to be the plan) proposes to raise the lowest tax rate from 10 to 15 percent and the middle bracket from 25 to 30 percent and lower the highest bracket from 22 to 18%. We are all one way or another learned about “tariffs”. The minute Trump speech about tariffs and many people applauded, I googled tariffs to make sure that the tariffs I knew from high school back in the 80’s has not changed. To my dismay, it’s beyond belief how these people would be so happy about the tariffs. We the consumers will be the hardest hit. All the people who work for the manufacturing industry were very happy about the “protect our automobile industry”…this is the beginning. More to come. Good luck my fellow Americans.

I feel sorry for the people that suddenly loss their jobs. However, for the person that said tariffs would have helped this factory is wrong. This was a foreign company that had a manufacturing factory on American soil. If these tires are significantly higher priced than imported tires, then why? Also, I would think that some or all of the materials used to build the tires are imported from other countries. Therefore, there would be tariffs on the materials they used to build the tires, which would cause the price of their tires to increase. Therefore, the imported tires, with a tariff, would still be (most likely) desirable price wise.

The state should confiscate their property to reclaim that $3 million. So glad I saw this, I just contacted Tire Rack and cancelled my order for 4 Sumitomo Encounter AT’s for my pickup. I can’t stand when companies do this to people and I refuse to do business with them; same for Pepsi. Another reason foreign companies shouldn’t be allowed to own businesses and property in the US, especially food companies.

@DeborahSch Well Deb you still have to pay to get goods imported no matter what. You have custom duties, MPF's, harbor maintenance fees, and transport costs. It's just that one thing affects another. If he puts a twenty percent increase in anything that we get it's going to come out of your pocket. We do import fruits, veggies etc. So anything you eat will cost you twenty % more. Can you afford it? .When he cuts S.S. for millions by 1/3 per check how many people will starve?

How heartbreaking 💔🙏..... Our businesses should not belong to foreign interests. Our companies should belong to us. We can't have globalization and tarrifs at the same time. It's just not possible. 😕 The tarrif threat is already being taken very seriously by the companies.
