Manufacturing in the US cannot compete with manufacturing done where it's cheaper to operate and manufacture. Manufacturing in New York State certainly cannot compete with manufacturing done outside the US in locations where it's cheaper to operate and manufacture. Even with tax credits and tax rebates and breaks , New York State is still a costly place to manufacture and do business.

Anything imported can have a tariff placed on it and that includes rubber from Southeast Asia, strawberries from Mexico, tea from China. If blanket tariffs on all goods and raw materials go into effect prices will go up on everything and we will all pay the price. Imported or domestic product. Not only that prepare to pay higher taxes as Project 2025 (now admitted to be the plan) proposes to raise the lowest tax rate from 10 to 15 percent and the middle bracket from 25 to 30 percent and lower the highest bracket from 22 to 18%. (page 696)

New York should do what the government did in Canada. Hyundai got government money from Quebec government then after a bit of time Hyundai left town. The government learned their lesson, so when GM got money for their plant and then a couple of years later shut the plant, GM had to pay back the Quebec government the money they received for the plant. New York should get the subsidy back from Sumitomo, they can afford to pay it back.

The minute Trump speech about tariffs and many people applauded, I googled tariffs to make sure that the tariffs I knew from high school back in the 80’s has not changed. To my dismay, it’s beyond belief how these people would be so happy about the tariffs. We the consumers will be the hardest hit. 1999 Goodyear wanted to close Rainbow City, Al to make tires cheaper somewhere else. Local UAW union 12 Stopped that. Then in 2015, Goodyear finished its new plant in Mexico and wanted to close. They were at peak production. Union made deal to keep reduced employees on ,but got some benefits. 2020 Union decided to give in and close plant. They did not want to. It was the best option. In 2021 (on year after plant closing)Goodyear CEO got 21 million dollar pay The workers made about $43,000 a year.

This is so sad, what a hardship on the employee's and their families. The sawmill my daughter worked at closed over a month ago, and we're still struggling and going through stages of depression. I hope for the best to all employee's and their families, and would suggest finding another job as quickly as possible. Anything coming in is better than nothing coming in. IMO.

I feel sorry for the people that suddenly loss their jobs. However, for the person that said tariffs would have helped this factory is wrong. This was a foreign company that had a manufacturing factory on American soil. If these tires are significantly higher priced than imported tires, then why? Also, I would think that some or all of the materials used to build the tires are imported from other countries. Therefore, there would be tariffs on the materials they used to build the tires, which would cause the price of their tires to increase. Therefore, the imported tires, with a tariff, would still be (most likely) desirable price wise.

If he puts a twenty percent increase in anything that we get it's going to come out of your pocket. We do import fruits, veggies etc. So anything you eat will cost you twenty % more. Can you afford it? .When he cuts S.S. for millions by 1/3 per check how many people will starve?
