So lots of you were asking for video on my 55 gallon community tank so here it is.
I have used some DIY co2 for this in the past for a few weeks...but then forgot to redo it and found that plants were doing amazing anyway so i didn't bother.
But as you can see from the video, the secret to this tanks success is very simple...a good substrate, adequate lighting and time.
Many people want to change things in there tank the first sign of struggle. Things normally sort themselves out with a good water change and letting the tank balance itself.
I perform water changes on this tank once a week. Only about 30% each time.
PLANT LIST:
Java Fern (midground)
Anubias barteri var. nana (midground)
Hygrophila Siamensis (background right)
Echinodorus Bleheri. Amazon Sword (background left)
Rotala Rotundifolia (background mid)
And here is the internal filter:

And my external canister filter:

Hi everyone. We've passed 10,000 subscribers!!! Thanks a lot everyone. Lots of people were asking for an update on this tank so here it is. I'm thinking of adding a small school of fish to the tank (6 total). what do you think that should be? let me know below and don't forget to like the video and consider subscribing if it is something you like. Cheers

There is definitely a case for using co2. It makes plants grow a lot faster but I just wanted to show people that it isnt a must.

If KH > 10 it's normal and CO2 is useless, if you have a KH < 10, like 5 for example, CO2 help a lot. You can not generalize.
@andrewsharp4950
@andrewsharp4950 5 жыл бұрын
KH differences won't increase or decrease your CO2 level. Natural equilibrium with the atmosphere provides only about 2ppm CO2. This tank it's likely generating much more CO2 than that with fish respiration, and bacterial action in the substrate. If MD Fish Tanks were to run this tank long enough, the bacterial action in the soil would subside, and growth would slow. ALL tanks have CO2, some more than others, there are a lot of factors at play, even without injecting it.

You don’t have to answer but I’d like to know so I can create my first planted tank. I wanted to grow some dwarf hair grass first, but I also wanted to put in a co2 pump so it could grow slightly faster. Will the pump create any harmful problems to the water that’ll effect a betta fish or small schooling fish?

Awesome videos. This one helped me a lot. I first learned about growing plants while working at a medical marijuana grow facility here in California. And that knowledge transfers well when I started learning about aquascaping. A lot of the same principles apply to medical marijuana as it does to aquatic plants. The only huge difference is the grow environment & the nutrients. 👍🏾👍🏾

When leaves wilt and Yellow the plants are actually transporting the dying leaves nutrients to the rest of the plant, They do not take resources from the rest of the plant. You want to remove them because they will release tannins in the water and be a medium for algae and mold growth/unsightly.
