This is the best accessory I've added to my PA14 hands down. I tried using a Hobie cart but got tired of lifting the PA14 to get the cart out only to have the cart roll down the ramp into the water or get stuck under the kayak causing me to have to adjust the kayak to one side or the other to clear the cart before I could put it down. EXCELLENT point made about the money people will spend on accessories such as a Black Pak (or Hobie H-Crate) yet complain that the Landing Gear is overpriced.

Most of the problems you cited with the generic cart are completely negated if you don't use straps. I don't use straps with the carts on either of my kayaks. I just use a long bungee and leash. The bungee is just to hold the cart to the kayak. For the actual hauling/portaging of the kayak, I have a leash (just a long rope) attached to the cart and when I pull the kayak I'm holding the other end of the leash tight (no slack) in the same hand that's on the kayak handle. This keeps the kayak on the cart even when going over bumpy terrain because you're actually pulling both the kayak and cart at the same time. I've never had my kayaks fall off the cart using this method. Have one of the newer, heavier kayaks? I use the same cart and method on my 100+ lb fully loaded canoe (okay, I carry the big marine battery separately). The Landing Gear looks like a great product, but I'd never pay more than $100 for it. I'm not just picking on Boonedox -- I would never own a C-Tug cart for the exact same reasons. Add $50 to the price of the Landing Gear, and that's what I paid for my canoe brand new! For the record, I don't own a BlackPack either. My $8 milk crate with $2 cutting board lid works great! Great video though -- I was fully expecting a cheesy, over-exaggerated demonstration of the generic cart, but your realistic comparison resulted in me subscribing.

You held up the generic cart and I was like "That's my cart!!!" That Boonedox setup would be even more valuable to us guys who have the larger kayaks like my Lure 13.5. Love it. My wife is always looking for good Christmas/ birthday present suggestions. I think I just found one.

without question, get the landing gear. u can't understand how much the landing gear relieves the headaches of strap-on-wheels until you've tried both. landing gear=far simpler, faster to get on the water, no headaches with loosening straps.

I have a C-Tug.... what a pain!!!! Unless you are on a paved parking lot and boat ramp. As soon and you hit a modest amount of terrain it loosens up. Won't go wrong with Boonedox landing gear!

@KrisCutOff7 жыл бұрын
He Speaketh Tha Truth... I bought one for my Hobie PA14. BooneDox was $30.00 more than the Hobie cart thru the scupper hole style. So with the BooneDox you also don't have to tip your Kayak all the way over, dumping everything out, then putting it all back in. I can leave all my gear in the Yak and just lift up on the side just slightly, and put the wheel down. It's worth it for sure.

Is there a reason you went with the Boonedox cart over the Native Watercraft landing gear cart? I haven’t heard much about the Boonedox cart. I’ve been looking at them both and for the money (they’re essentially the same price) it seems like getting the official cart might be a better match. I figured it will always be the best kayak cart for Natives since it is made by the same company that makes the yak and was designed to fit that brand specifically. Just curious.

That is some impressive gear. Now about that math...as a Southern Boy the only math I'm really good at is leaving the beer bottle caps on the counter each afternoon and counting them on my return trip to the fridge so I have an idea as to how many I've had and when to stop.

Your use of straps, particularly a ratchet strap, as compared to a properly sized and attached bungee, does make the generic cart appear inefficient. Employed with a bit more finesse, the generic cart is not so bad. No permanently added weight and clutter on the kayak is a plus.

I just bought a Slayer propel 13 and am considering the boonedox. Have you had any issues with it cracking the plasic on the kayak or the mount itself cracking. Ive seen a few reviews with that happening. Seems like a ton of weight to be putting on the rails. Very good review though, i have that same amazon cart and a C-tug

Ok, what am I missing here. Yesterday, I launched my 10.5 for the first time using the Native Sidekick (like the Boone Dox Landing Gear). I had one bitch os a time removing the wheel legs once the boat was in the water. I watched your video to see how you do it, but you did not show that. I must be doing something wrong trying to lift the boat with the left hand, while trying to insert or remove those wheels. It was pretty much a nightmare. The insert & removal are a pain because the fit is quite tight, and a long throw.

I use the generic cart on my old town predator 13, I leave my cart on when I'm transporting it and when I'm done and it's back in my shed I just loosen the straps so they don't deform my hull

I am not buying a black pack for the same reason I find this an expensive price. Its current price is over 200 dollars. I have a Jackson Cuda 14 and it is not a kayak they have listed. So I expect that means "Results will vary" category. I currently still don't have any sort of cart. Not too much work to drag it in grass to the water. But it is work. But I load on top of an SUV also. It will always be work.

Hey, I have new 2017 Native Watercraft Slayer 13 Propel. Love the kayak! Have the Boone Dox rudder on it and works great. Though, I own a Ford F150 and it's a bit hard by myself to put the kayak in and out of my truck. I have a C-Tug kayak cart to move it around. I saw he Boone Dox cart but, it will not help me to put it in easier with the rudder. Anything you can suggest since you have a Native Slayer 13 Propel too. Do you take off your Boone Dox rudder every time you load your kayak into your truck?
@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Vincent Arena I take it off a lot. Had one drop off once. If you get the boonedox don't drill into your hull it cracked my slayer...u can mount it to the tracks though which is what I suggest....I leave the rudder on too when loading and unloading you just have to be cautious but for me the rudder only drags a little and the boonedox rudder can take a beating. Native cables are horrible though so be careful
@vincentarena97557 жыл бұрын
So basically keep the rudder on when loading and unloading the kayak from truck. I've looked into getting a kayak trailer for the kayak. I can get a real good deal for a Continental trailer at cost than I would not have to worry about any of issues with my truck. Do you have a video on Native replacement cables?
@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
+Vincent Arena I don't but there are some out there. Check out "keep it bent" he made a good video on it....they are super easy...just make sure you have a spare rudder cable and propeller handy...I broke both while traveling so I always keep spares

How hard is it to install? I know you have to hard mount it on the kayak, so is there a backing plate or anything to keep it from pulling out if your kayak is heavy?

Do you have to drill into your boat to mount the brackets?

you dont have to but I did. The tracks on the slayers can withstand several hundred pounds of pressure. so the tracks are good mounting options....I drilled over the front of the rear well.

Larry Talbot I'm lucky I won my second one in a tourney!....good way to get some extra loot. But products normally will have launch price....think of TVs...how much those flat screens were. Unfortunately this prolly won't be that way....I just want to prove it is worth saving for
@LarryTalbot_13137 жыл бұрын
That's the problem with fishing gear. TV, DVD players and stuff like that eventually come down, to affordable. Fishing gear rarely ever comes down. usually, the price it launches for, is pretty much the same price it goes for a few year later. Especially when it comes to stuff like Landing Gear, etc. That's really sad, because poor people would love to have stuff like that too! I don't think it fair to limit prices so only the rich get to enjoy it. Most fishermen I know are working class people. They only own kayaks because they couldn't afford a motor boat. They are the ones how grew this industry for the big names, but are quickly forgotten. There is no way Landing Gear costs $250 (or $400) to make. $200 of that is probably pure profit. That a huge margin. Imagine how many they would sell if they were cheaper?! Now there's a lesson. Rip people off any you will sell a thousand. Make it affordable (truly affordable, not "Hobie affordable!") and you will sell a million!!!
