I’m glad that Criterion got No Country For Old Men. It doesn’t need an Arrow box set. It’s a great film it doesn’t need to pumped up with swag and extra stuff to pad the price. Good for Criterion for understanding that the film is more important than all extra garbage that these box sets include. Not everyone can pay up to $60 or more for a single movie. Thank you Criterion for keeping it simple.

I respect it too. Nothing is limited and so the scalpers/speculators have no interest. They allow us to pick up the 4ks at our own pace and you never feel like you're missing anything

I don’t think we need a chunky box set for No Country for Old Men. The film speaks for itself. There’s a quiet nature to the film itself that makes its antagonist deviously effective. Criterion knows better than to pad a release like this with needless cardboard and art cards, etc.

Considering how particular and different collectors can be, Its baffling Criterion doesn't offer a standard case when they issue digi-packs. I hate digi-packs and will avoid then if i can.

I'm with you 1000% on the joy of No Country for Old Men coming out in 4k by Criterion. This is icing on the cake for me as three other films recently announced for 4k has also sent me to the moon...original Planet of the Apes, A Simple Plan, and Play Misty for Me. Yes, Paris, Texas also up there, along with 8 1/2. 8 1/2 is absolutely a superb classic I know you will enjoy. Will definitely buy No Country, Paris, Tx, but no 8 1/2 as I have the criterion blu-ray and it looks great already. Unfamiliar with Easter Condors.

All four of those Criterion titles are great and I'll be picking them all up. This is literally the fourth time Criterion has gotten my money for 8 1/2 (laserdisc, dvd, blu and now 4k). I'm pretty sure the ghost of Harry Dean Stanton is going to come back and haunt you for your Paris, Texas hate. As he should. 😂

That's why I'm worried about this release. Although that was a 20th century studios movie and we know what happened with the French connection. This is paramount/miramax so hopefully the same cut will be there on the 4k edition.

I'm a little worried because of Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader's documented history of Criterion's use of Pixelmedia, a sub-par facility for mastering their discs. Too many visually fantastic films are getting inferior bit rates due to Criterion's cost-cutting that Arrow and Vinegar Syndrome don't deal with.

The movie falls apart near the end when Tommy Lee jones arrives at the scene AFTER the murder of the main character! Jeez 🙄. Also all Josh brolin had to do was leave the area he was in and he would never be detected. Why hide in a local motel and play silly games with hiding the money in a shaft ?!? I mean come on! 😅

first im glad its releasing second i also wish it was a big set like arrow can do but criterion while not as good as arrow is ok and third be glad it wasnt scream/shoutfactory putting it out (they did do fargo)im sure the technical presentation would be good but all you would get is a standard case with slip cover but they would charge 30-40 dollars like arrows limited sets but without the value it can always be worse. day one pickup for me

I knock Criterion all the time because imo, their releases are always kind of boring. But No Country is a fantastic flik and Im looking forward to this 4k! I was also surprised they are dropping Eastern Condors! Getting that as well. Just last month they released the michelle yeoh double feature of Heroic Trio and Executioners which I have arriving tomorrow matter of fact. Criterion seems to be stepping up there game and offering something for everyone. kudos to Criterion

No country for old men is ok and I remember see this back in 2008. And I don't see what's all the hype is about this movie. Bc this movie is a one and done watch. Bc I blind bought it on bluray back in 2008 and after watching it I thought was ok. But I have not seen it since then. And when I went through my bluray collection a couple of years ago & pulled out movies I either only watched once or movies I did not care for and got rid of them and that one was in the pile of movie I got rid of. Bc keeping movies you only watch once or keeping them just bc they have cool covers or stuff like that is a total waste of shelves space and money

“I’ve never seen Criterion release new special features,” he states, just after talking about a new interview with Joel & Ethan Coen on ‘No Country For Old Men.” Colour me confused. I will agree, however, that Criterion has been resting on their laurels in the last couple of years and I wish more of us began calling them out for this. When Criterion began, they were noted for their work on adding a number of special features. Those days, it seems, are gone. For the last couple of years, Arrow Video has been eating Criterion’s lunch with their efforts to add additional new special features. Ken is also right that while we call out SHOUT & Scream Factory for just essentially porting over already existing special features, we haven’t been doing that to Criterion. I, personally, think it’s time we started. Yes, I will be purchasing ‘No Country For Old Men,’ but due to their decision to spare most expenses for special features, I’m going to wait until March and buy it half off. BTW, the author was Larry McMurtry, not Larry “McMurty.” He wrote ‘The Last Picture Show, ‘Texasville’ and ‘Terms of Endearment’ and won an Oscar for co-writing the screenplay for ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and was nominated for the screenplay for ‘The Last Picture Show.’ He passed in 2021.
