Hello, the main starter cable should be hot but its not. I checked all battery cable and they are hot. Does the starter cable go directly to the fusebox and that's where it's getting its power from?

The bms has a fusible link style battery cable on the positive side so in case of an accident it will break the link. Are the jumper ports hot under the hood? I think cover that in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ2ac56whqeafrs

What does tapping the starter with the screw driver do? Does it sometimes get the starter working again? My BMW E90 (2008 335XI Sedan Model) is not cranking. Everything else seems to have power. (Dash lights on, radio works, wipers work, interior lights work, etc). I could really use the help. Thanks. Phil

Tapping can help if the start is worn. There is nothing scientific about but it can help start the process. You can have all the wipers, radio and all other items power up but if the vehicle is not sending a signal for the starter to engage that means if you replace the starter it will still not help as the signal for the starter to engage is achieved. @@RANDOMFIX Yes I watched your other IBS video (great info also) and did that yesterday, but unfortunately did not work. I will receive a new Battery Safety Terminal (BST Cable on positive battery post) today as some videos mention it fails. I will pull that cable today and put my volt meter on it to check for continuity. Question: Does someone need to be pushing the start button as I tap the starter? Thanks very much. Phil Jersey Shore

You want someone to push the starter button so you can check it your test light to see if that signal is making it to starter. if the signal is making it to starter, than your conclude indeed it's a bad starter, tapping it might give a few dozen more starts but change the unit ASAP.

Hey i have a e90. 335 xdrive and I hit a tire last night my battery light came on along with my 4x4 also my car over heated and turned off I didn’t know it was overheating because I have no meter to tell me but I tried starting the car. Today it wouldn’t even crank I’m just wondering what should I be checking for in my car for why it doesn’t turn

Hey man, would my starter cause my car to turn off and say starter/ignition malfunction and then not crank anymore?

Starter help the motor turn initially buy once are not used after a motoring is running. You need to check your battery as your charging system ( alternator could be weak). Was it all of a sudden or a slow putter? Is your starter getting a signal to engage? Like I showed in the video.

Hi, I have one loud click coming from the starter solenoid when I turn the key. I tried a spare battery and there was no difference, so Ive took half the engine apart to get the starter out. And it works absolutely fine when on a bench? Any pointers please ? E46 330i.

@@RANDOMFIX the solenoid clicked once and once only when I tried to start the car, I initially thought it was battery output , so I got another battery. same thing. I then thought it was the key immobiliser, but I dont think the solenoid would try and operate. I then took the start motor out and annoyingly it works fine on a bench. thanks for your time.

Bench testing vs an actual load is way different. With the starter out of the car can you try turning the crank? I just want you to confirm it's not a sized motor or belt/pulley. It happens!!!

All engines have a crank, a crank is like power output of the motor but on the front side this what turns the belts, etc.

Danny, Yes this could be mean you have a bad starter, a stuck pulley ( remove the drive belt and try again, this is very rare), or you have a seized motor. You can also look up instructions on how to manually turn the motor via the crank. Best of luck and let me know what you find. _Randomfix
