No exaggeration here, this was one of the most helpful videos I've ever come across in regards to troubleshooting. Girlfriend has a 2002 PT Cruiser that has the EXACT same issue with her stereo lights being touchy, car intermittently decides not to crank (generally when its hot outside for some reason) and thanks to this video I at least have a starting point. For no radio lights , replace the ignition switch . @10:21 : Part number is US518 for INTELLIENT SOLUTIONS STANDARD . @9:30 : Automatic transmission ignition switch will have a white part on switch ; manual transmission ignition switch will not have this feature .

2002 pt cruiser no crank, no start after new battery. Checked iod fuse and it was blown, replaced but still no start. Car ran fine yesterday

Make sure the fuse didn't blow again. There is probably a short somewhere, the problem may be the ignition circuit .

Is that the security light? That can be why its not starting if it is.

@Motorcarnut I just bought a 2001 pt limited and I knew it had a couple of issues. Have been able to fix everything but this had me stumped. Today, went to start had no crank or start. Jumped it and let it charge for a bit, worked fine. Started driving and the gauges started moving all over the place, windshield wipers turned on (front and rear) and seat warmers came on. Pulled over, turned off the car and smelled something burning. Haven't been able to crank or start since and now the dash says "no fuse". Any tips on where I should look exactly?

There seems to be a short somewhere, did you check the fuse in back of the fuse block like in the video? Smelling something burning can be anything, hard to help as it should be diagnosed with a scan tool.

My 2001 pt has issues with the door locks. They lock and unlock continually. The battery goes dead after being charged in two days.

You seem to have a short in the power door lock circuit. Probably the module.

I have a 05 pt cruiser.It just stopped running and will not restart.I replaced cam sensor last year.It has one episode while starting recently .It ran eratic and choked out twice.Pressed the accelerator it ran fine for 2 weeks.Have not checked any fuses.A shop has the car now.Any ideas what could cause this sudden engine stop?

Just purchased a 2008, and it seems to be very moody. Test drive, no problems. Next day around town, no problem. Went to a client and came back out to leave and car wouldn't start. Dash lights fine, no crank. Hooked up a battery charger overnight (great clients of ours!) then came back in the morning - did the lock and unlock via the remote several times because I suspected the theft deterrent system. Got in... started right up. Fathers Day 2022 we visited my dad (40 minutes easch way) - no problems. Got back home and needed to go out to the store for something - car was shut off for literally about 5 minutes - won't start. Won't crank. Rides fine, roomy, great look for a couple of hippies. But I need the peace of mind that when I put the key in, the car is going to get me where I'm going. Can you help me? Possible starter?

Could be the starter, has those symptoms. When it happens again try banging the starter with a hammer not too hard and see if it starts. Still that doesn’t mean it ain’t the starter but worth a try. Sometimes the armature has a dead spot and the bang can move it enough to start. The relay is another thing to check. If you’re not experiencing any problems like in my video I would start from that.

Hi I have no power to my 2002 pt cruiser. I was driving and it just died! Replaced the battery but still NO POWER. I checked the fuses inside and out. I was vibrating like crazy the day before. Almost like I was driving 100 on flat tires. Also I did notice the battery terminal was broken from corrosion. That has also been replaced. Please help! Single mom and spent last money on a battery. Hey! Thanks for your quick response! Yes I did! Yesterday I decided to redo the other power cables coming into the main one. (I think one is for the starter and the other one I believe was the issue. Even after visually checking it I thought it was ok. I pulled it off and redid the connection and automatically my flashers came on! I immediately was able to start and drive!! Thank God!! Your video’s did help me so much! I found that my switch is loose as well. After watching one of your videos. I pushed in on my key and my radio is doing the exact thing. On and off depending on whether I’m pushing it in or not. I’m going to change that. Asap one question? So I have to reprogram anything? Or is this something I can do myself? Sorry but I forgot your answer to this. Thanks again!! You’re awesome

2004 Chrysler pt cruiser... Died while I was driving it, lost power even hard to turn wheel as well as there's a light directly in the middle of of the temperature gauge& fuel gauge is illuminating (also brake light on). It will not turn over at all and it's a brand new battery 3 days ago was replaced by AAA. It does have a security system not a key chip. I'm so confused. Thank you for reading this & your reply.

We hit a pothole yesterday, and now it wont crank. The battery is good. When he turns the key, the lights in the car,everything comes on . We think something got knocked loose or something. But my husband has COPD and Emphysema, can't breathe trying to get this car going, the motor being so compact. HE's never worked on Chrysler cars, so we don't know what to do. LIke where is the starter? How do we trace the cables to that? I'm in a panic, cause I have to work in the morning. We havent got the money to have it serviced, cause of so many bills to pay on a weekly basis. IT's been dragging he said since the weather has changed. Idk.Could be the starter, but he can't get to it. I may have no choice but to put it in the shop.We have no 2nd car. I dont know what to do.

Too many variables, what year pt cruiser? Did it shut off as soon as you hit the pot hole? What been dragging? This problem? Sorry hard to give advice like this.

@@motorcarnut 2004 PT Cruiser with 2.4 liter Turbo Engine. No, it didn't shut of as soon as we hit the pothole, did it when we got home and turned off the car. When we tried to crank to back up to get closer to our sidewalk, it wouldn't crank. The car was dragging like hesitant to start. My husband said he thinks it was the starter. I had it towed yesterday to a mechanic, cause the starter is down too far to get off. They are gonna replace the starter, I hope that's the problem.

Umm, when a fuse blows there's usually a reason. Just replacing the fuse may temporarily get you going but it always behooves you to look further. Chafed or worn through wiring, as the OP in this video pointed out, would be a good place to start. But if it blew once it will likely get you again if you don't locate the issue. JMO....

Very true, however fuses can just blow sometimes when they are old or have a bad connection in the fuse block etc.

The "No Bus means that your instrument cluster is not communicating with the PCM. Did you check the fuse I mentioned in the video? Also make sure all fuses are not blown. It’s always better to check the simple things first. And how did this problem come about?

I have the same year car with the same no crank, no start issue but it’s popping up hEAd and all my light are blinking for about a good 10-15 seconds. Just put in a new battery and still nothing.

Hey, these PT cruiser have a constant battle with electrical issues Not big problems but it's this nickel in diamond. Yeah, the way I see it is. After about 100000 miles get rid of it. It seems they're not big repairs but they're just gonna keep nickel and Dime you. I seen 7 of them in the junk Yard recently You know just a thought.

My pt cruiser 2010 didn't start, but it's light, and the other electric part was wood. The mechanic changed the battery, and said the other electric part was wood. But battery only has 2 years nobody knows what happened!

He should check for burnt fuses or have another mechanic who knows what they are doing. Can’t help more because your question is too vague, can be many things

Some things go without saying. Of course the shifter has to be in park or neutral for the engine to start. Good for you this was an easy one
