I disagree. There are better options, as the video discussed, like pausing the extra contributions (if any) to the mortgage and the trunk. Also cutting back for a few months to save up the money. But in the future (once the septic situation is handled), he needs to build a bigger savings balance to handle bigger emergencies. This should be no problem since he makes good money and has only mortgage/truck debt.

Sorry to be judgemental, but this guy's annoying- blaming national politics for his personal financial situation when he's been earning a super handsome living, driving a big expensive pickup with payments,, etc. The answer is clear- sell the dang truck, pump the field a few times to tide you over for 2 months and use the couple months of cash you'll be generating by no payments plus "beans and rice" actions plus the truck money to redo the septic. Keep your $11k in the bank for emergencies. It seemed like he's saying he'll do whatever it takes- as long as that does not include making hard choices like selling an expensive pickup or temporarily taking on a sidehustle. More debt when you have options is not ok. And expecting the Ramsey boys to approve anything but that is not going to happen. I'm not judging anyone's politics, but i'm sure Ramsey would agree- free yourself from the need to borrow and it won't matter what any one party seems to to do cause rates to rise or fall.

The economy was super good for 4 years and it changed our lives. Thanks Trump! Yea.. That's the downside to this "one size fits all" approach, and it can quite frustrating to listen to. The hosts are obligated to stay on brand and to maintain the "debt is always bad" narrative, regardless of the individual circumstances. Taking out a loan for a short time and then repaying it early is very likely the best way forward for this guy in this specific instance. If he's able to pay it down in just a couple of months, he'll avoid the potential crisis with the septic tank (which could incur even greater costs and inconveniences if left unattended to), and he'll also save himself the HUGE trouble and all the unknowns of having to change vehicles when he doesn't really need to.

This is weird advice. Why sell his truck to get a beater. Assuming that he has properly maintained his truck it's fairly low risk. If you get an old beater you might have a ton of issues with stuff breaking down due to a lack of maintenance. Don't trust others to maintain a vehicle well. He makes tons of money, he doesn't need to sell his truck.

Do what I did years ago. Flush the septic system, Remove and throw away your toilets. Install a Ecojohn incinerating toilet. Cost $4K and 1 hour to install then your done. For the shower, dishwasher and clothes washer just run the grey water pipes on the ground or water your garden.
