Would love to see a video on how you get that amazing retrieve of the tug toy! My dog will tug but with the goal of possessing the toy not bringing it back for more play. Loving the agility content btw :)

exactly! My dog will NOT trade or give up anything she has even for high value treats. If she gets a sock....oh my. I ignore it till she is less obsessed with it, then ask for a "trade" I put the treat in my hand, and she is interested in it, but won't give up her valued possession. If I toss it, she will take her sock with her. Frustrating!

I had this problem with my dog. Started off indoors in a restricted area like a hallway with little distractions and opportunities to escape. Sit on the floor silently and wait until the dog comes up to you (or tries to run past) and have the most exciting game of tug when they do. Once they consistently do it, you can add commands/hand gestures (I clap my hands together and say “hands”). Then you might be able to go to a whole room, only once they are choosing to come back. Then your garden, and eventually public places like training & comps (still getting to that stage!). I’ve seen some people tie a long line to they’re toys too so that their dog can’t completely run off with it. If I feel my dog is going to run off with it (e.g. we haven’t even had success in the house yet) I try not to let him have the opportunity to run off, and I will stick to holding the toy. I never try to trade for treats or anything. You want the exciting game of tug between you and the dog to be the reward! For this reason I always reserve his tug toy for agility only. Also to help avoid them thinking that you are the bad guy that always takes the toy away, every now and then you can offer a second game of tug when they let go. Hope that helps

Susan Garrett has an awesome video on tugging! For me I couldn't impose rules too fast - like getting them to give it - because my Dobe stopped all together wanting to tug. Hope that helps.

Love that toy, where did you get it?
@absoluteDogsofficial Жыл бұрын
Hi Samantha! 😀 So super, isn't it!! ♥️ You can get something similar from a variety of companies - it's a Holee Roller ball on a bungee handle. Here's an example: www.pawstrading.co.uk/paws-rubber-holee-roller-football-dog-cage-toy---plainwebbungeefleece-handle-5930-p.asp We hope that helps! Does your pup love toy play? 💕

@@absoluteDogsofficial yes he love's his toys. Have a few tugs of different lengths with rabbit and sheepskin. I reserve them for one2one time or when out off lead to help a little with the recall. It's a work in progress 🙈

how does dog know to turn left or right when you ask for check.
@absoluteDogsofficial2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. When we ask for a check we expect the dog to take the jump or obstacle and then wrap around turning back in to us. If the dog is sent from the handler's right side they should take the obstacle and wrap left to turn back to the handler. If the dog is sent from the handler's left side they should take the obstacle and wrap right to turn back. We would use a different cue if we wanted the dog to turn away from us. 🙂

Hey there 👋 'check check' means to wrap around so that they turn in to you. Depending on which side you send them from means which way they turn. Dog on the right and sent with right hand they should turn left around the obstacle and back in to you. Dog on left they should turn right. 👍🐾 Hope this helps, and happy training!! 💜💜💜
