Doing the right thing? This is false honor but ego and irrational thinking. He knows he stood zero chance and he knows if he dies, Troy would fall and every baby and woman and innocent would be killed. Knowing that consequences, he still decided to fight. He could have saved his people lives by just ignoring Achilles or just get the archers to kill him. Very very irrational judgement.

@@Maimounosthe war up to this point had been a Trojan series of successes when Achilles and his myrmidons stopped taking the field. Patroclus dying had the potential to change it, because Achilles was the only Greek favored by the gods and as far as anyone knew, totally invulnerable. Hectors choices were either to duel Achilles, lose, and potentially allow Troy to survive, or stay inside the walls until Achilles tore them down brick by brick, die anyways and have all his people massacred. She was under their protection as a guest and she would have been killed had she gone back. The laws of hospitality were extremely important to most cultures in those days. Kings and entire civilizations in myth were destroyed for violating the laws of hospitality. A guest is under your absolute protection while under your roof. But yes the city would have been spared so long as they also submitted to be the subjects of Agamemnon. (At least in the film version. I don't remember that in the written version)

Hector looks on Helen's beautiful face like .....this is because of you. Because of Paris, a brother, father, warrior, man of honor and Prince of Troy was taken because he wanted to keep his prize and manipulated his brother's love just to get it. And it further upsets me for the fact that at the end of all of this, hector's wife is a widow, and Paris walks away with Helen and who's to say it stops there with his stupidity.
@IntlManOfLeisure26 күн бұрын
Paris dies in Troy…Helen is enslaved by the Spartans…so it’s not the happy ending the film portrays. A distant cousin escapes with a contingent of Trojans, sails to Italy, and sets in motion the founding of Rome. The Roman’s considered themselves heirs to this legacy, and viewed the subjugation of Greece as revenge for this war.

Hector is the ultimate warrior. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: it’s not by chance that he is one of the Nine Noble Worthies. Achilles is cheap because he’s nearly invulnerable. Hector is fighting against an individual who almost can’t even die by blade. Hector is so brave, and he’s a righteous man, a great warrior, an amazing son, a good not to mention extremely protective big brother, and a faithful, loving, and over all fantastic husband.
@spartanwarrior14 күн бұрын
Yawn. Diomedes even outranks Hector
@matthewburgar26264 күн бұрын
@ Respectfully I have to disagree. Ajax was the second best warrior of the Achaeans (the Greeks), Hector was the best of the Trojans so no. Hector is second only to Achilles in strength and fighting ability. But Hector is a better person and a way more virtuous and righteous warrior. Don’t forget Achilles is half god, and he’s almost invincible. During this fight, Achilles also wore the armour of Hephaestus the god of blacksmithing. Hector couldn’t have beaten him. No mortal could have.
