Hi Chuck, I have been coming to Thailand and staying in Bangsaen almost annually since 1984. It has changed a lot in that time. The day you visited looked like a Tuesday, the one day of the week when there are no umbrellas and seafood served on the beach. The beach is cleaned with a grader once each week. Bangsaen is popular with Bsngkokians, especially each weekend. The walk along the beach promenade is popular early each morning and late afternoon. Increasing number of farang live there, but it still has a Thai vibe.🙏🤗

Hey Chuck and Paige, I definitely agree with you on the subject of trash. I was on a bus going north out of Korat and this guy just threw a glass bottle out the window. I asked him about it and he explained that it gives someone a job picking stuff up and selling them. Strange way of thinking. I have been wanting to go to a Tops store. I have been told that they have an agreement with Walmart and carry some Walmart brands. When I get back to Thailand I will definitely be going there. 😂

Great hotel on the side of that mall, if you want to stay just a couple of days. Rooms are quite small, but very modern and comfortable, and extremely well-priced considering the location. You wouldn't want to stay more than a couple of days really though, unless you're on your own, because of the room size. (GO Hotel.)

I remember the sand fleas from Parris Island, SC. 5 Feb 1979- 1 May 1979. Some Marines called them invisible teeth. They could fly but were tinier than a nat. Vicious little bastards. Standing outside the 3rd Battalion Chow Hall at attention after chow and had to endure the torture of the sand fleas. Our Drill Instructor’s said to leave the sand fleas alone, because they had to eat too. Good times. Semper Fi Devil Dogs everywhere. Thanks for sharing your videos Chuck. Always fun.

The river close to Bangsaen is Pakong (or something like that) Any way not Chao Praya......By the way I gather you kinda shun Bangkok...but your Mom might enjoy living here ...Plenty of suburbs...cheap rent...cheap transportation (trains..boats..taxis...busses...etc.) and If you can't find it here than its probably not in Thailand...LOL I am 71 yrs young and I love it here...First time I came here was July 4th 1972 (I was stationed up in lampang ...I'm a 24 year USCG retiree)...Cheers Oh..lots of english speaking folk...but unlike Pattaya...The city is so big they are spread out..Just my 2 cents worth.

I live about 45 minutes east of Bang Saen. We go there regularly with the kids and family. There are quite a few farang staying there but it is mainly a Thai location. The litter thing is a Thai thing and I see trash everywhere these days. The only problem with Bang Saen is the water is always dirty and cloudy. It's close to Laem Chabang and other industrial areas which cause a bit of pollution unfortunately.

I’m confused now too by sand fleas/flies. I thought from your videos that they lived in the sand/leaves on the beach and jumped on you. In Australia we have sand flies or midges-like tiny mosquitos that sometimes fly in swarms. Their bites are similar to mosquitoes just more itchy unless you are allergic. We just use insect repellent against them.

In the 60’s Bang Sean was the beach closest to BKK (still is) and it was always a muddy beach, there was no sand like today nor had beach walks. It was always dirty and trash filled….peoples behaviors haven’t changed much, so sad…we only went to Bang Sean because it took more than 3 hours to reach Pattaya until the road was improved…eventually we just stopped in Sriracha to hang out with friends in forest bungalows and eat abalone at local seafood places…but you needed to pass the smelly nam pla factory first…Bang Saen looks so much better now than before but peoples behaviors haven’t changed much

G'day guys, the schools need to teach the kids to keep Thailand beautiful and clean up their rubbish, then the kids can teach the parents. Videos of dead wildlife from pollution will pull their heart strings. And the government need to fine people for throwing rubbish everywhere. In Australia we call sand flees sand flys or midgys👍

I've seen locals walk out of 7-Eleven, both kids and adults, stand next to the bin, take the wrapper off of whatever they are eating, and throw it on the floor! It does my head in! They're not all like it though; Ms. Mairu was picking up litter off the shoreline in Koh Kood every afternoon when we were there recently, so some at least are aware, but they're few and far between. She was bitching the other night there wasn't a bin along the whole of Sattahip beach to throw her empty drink jug in. We ended up sticking it in the carrier under the bike seat and taking it home to dispose of!

@@MrMairu555 here in Australia l remember 40 years ago there was rubbish everywhere, people would just throw it out the car window. But then we started getting fines, and being educated about pollution and what it does to the environment and wildlife. And tv promotions like "clean up Australia day" where schools and community groups would organise massive cleanup crews to clean the beaches etc. Now we have street cleaning trucks and tractors that comb the beaches. It's all about education and council initiatives 👍

Hello Chuck & Paige! You're absolutely right Chuck! No sense of pride or respect for the planet in which we live! It's so disgusting! Everyone has an inherent sense of what's right or wrong. I am a 74+ years old first generation Chinese American and cannot justify nor understand certain people's value system regardless of what country they came from. As visitors/tourists should be more respectful when you travel to another country/city. Interesting tip I wasn't aware of about sand fleas/flies. Good that you incorporate a daily regimen of fitness by lots of walking in your travel adventures. Agree wholeheartedly with your outlook of life; maybe we're "soul" brothers? Hahahahahahaha! Paige shut you down Chuck! Hahahahahahahahaha! Because of her love for you, also concern for your health and safety. Her response was spontaneous. natural and funny! I just love it. Thank you for sharing, a very informative interesting video.

We stayed in the GO Hotel on the side of Central Mall in the New Year, whilst visiting some of Ms. Mairu's friends who work in Central. Nice hotel, and surprisingly cheap given it's locat at the mall. The rooms are quite small, but very modern. Great for a couple of nights. The litter in Thailand is my #1 gripe! People just don't care, and it really grinds my gears! Beautiful natural resources, just exploited to the point of destruction! As for bins, Sattahip is a standout beach! The trash is litterally piled up on the side of the road at night, and not a single public bin in sight for the whole beachfront... and again, no one gives a shit! Soul destroying! 😞😞😞 (Sattahip town, not the military beaches, but the military beaches, if you can get in to them, close at 6pm.)

The difference between and 1st world, 2nd world and 3rd world stems from WW2. 1st world, led by the US and allies. 2nd world are eastern bloc counties lead by the former Soviet Union. 3rd world were countries that were non-affiliated with either. The term 3rd world has taken on a more economic meaning where the majority of the population live in poverty and have a high child mortality rate. Thailand is not a 3rd world country.
