I'm dealing with this exact issue on my 2005 F350, after researching this problem I agree that adding an external relay is a cost effective and reliable fix...at least that's what my good friend the 40+ year mechanic told me to do...haha. Wish me luck, hopefully I won't be sending any smoke signals your way.

having this issue now with my 2002 f350 superduty 4.5l with while driving the truck automatically shuts off no fuses blown or relays that i know of however something is happening with the fuel pump shutting off but gives no warning as to engine sputtering before it shuts off it just dies basically, but these videos help alot diagnosing the problems thanks so much

I replaced both of those relays on my 2007 F250 6.0 PSD. Every time I would drive up a steep hill my truck would die. Relay was melted and I replaced both, I think the other relay is for the horn. Came to $30 from eBay, Relay# R303 Part# F8VF-BA G8QN. I went with the Panasonic not the OEM Omron.

Great vid. Though it is beneficial for a LOT of other electrical problems. I suggest you rename the title.. it should include CJB Central Junction Box Repair. Also, it would be great if you can indicate the configuration of the truck; there are at least three different relay configurations for the 2002-2004 (and probably more up to 2007) Superduty trucks. In particular, that empty relay socket in the central cluster, that normally means you are dealing with a gasoline powered truck and not a 7.3 or 6.0 powerstroke. But each year apparently has different uses for that "extra" relay socket.. from Diesel Fuel Heater to Injector module power to "accessory delay relay" functions.. I suspect there is a DRL relay utilization for export to Kalifornia and Kanada as well. [DRL: Daytime Running Lights].

Need Help!! Have a 2005 f250 with the 6.8 that I just bought for a work truck. I am stumped on it, and need ideas. It the codes are for lean condition on bank 1 and 2. Truck seems to run ok as long as the driver stays below 50% throttle, anything above that it acts like it runs out of fuel and misfires and bucks and snorts. Lift off the throttle and after about 15-30 seconds it clears up and starts running better again. Any ideas! I need to get this truck out working. thanks

@@CarShopTalk I guess the fuel pressure is great, everting is good. However the maf sensor readings are way off. Last I heard they were going to clean it and retest, if still not reading correctly they are going to replace it.

HI iv got the 2005 f250 SD 4wd Triton v10 6.8 L gas with the almost exact same startup problem going on and I was wondering where the link to send out the board to someone to replace that relay etc for $125 give or take rather than buying a new board from ford ? Will you or someone reading this please let me know the link or an outfit to look into repairing the board rather than a pricy replacement and DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIANCE WITH SENDING OUT THE BOARD FOR REPAIR and if you had a good experience and successful repair ? or bad ?
@CarShopTalk2 жыл бұрын
I honestly can’t say that I know anyone who has sent one out to be repaired. I’ve wired external relays on a few to bypass it. I’ve seen adds online for it, but I can’t say I have any experience dealing with any of them

Correction, I have a P0135 and a P0193. Both are intermittent codes. Come up in continuous memory but when cleared they done always come back right away, even after two drive cycles are completed.
@CarShopTalk2 жыл бұрын
@@rexluongo6470 P0193 is high voltage on the fuel rail pressure sensor. P0135 is a current draw issue on the heater circuit of the upstream oxygen sensor on bank 1 / passenger side. I don’t have a wiring diagram at the moment, but I think the fuel rail pressure sensor is a 3 wire sensor. 5 volt reference voltage, ground, and signal back to the PCM. Don’t ever fuel out wiring problems, but I would guess it’s the sensor itself. Bad heaters in the oxygen sensor are fairly common too, so I would guess you need an oxygen sensor and a fuel rail pressure sensor.
@rexluongo64702 жыл бұрын
@@CarShopTalk I get confused sometimes, sorry. I have a FRP sensor high circuit and a FP out of range codes, plus lean codes for both banks. No o2 sensor codes. I have all the wiring diagrams from snap on mitchell1. I don't have a no start issue. Just like to learn new stuff. I don't suspect the relay. I have steady voltage and a constant lean issue. I already scoped the MAF and tested fuel pressure. I plan on checking the FRP sensor, but have not done it yet. If it had a circuit high code then that means it lost ground. It registered 5v or more when it should have had zero or close to it. It's on the list of things to check. Just doing as much research as possible before going any further with my diagnostics.
@CarShopTalk2 жыл бұрын
@@rexluongo6470 yes, either lost ground or a cross short between vref and the signal wire. We do put a fair anount of sensors on for that. Check your wiring first, but I would guess it needs a sensor. I wouldn’t rule out the FRP sensor causing your lean codes either. I’d probably start by getting that fixed.

That's cool you have the Ford IDS software. Just curious what you thought about it? Compared to your other diagnostic scanners you use for multiple car lines?
@CarShopTalk2 жыл бұрын
On Ford’s IDS or Forscan are by far the best. There’s some things I like Forscan better for, but there are some things only IDS / FDRS can do. I work almost entirely on Ford and Lincoln so I rarely use anything else.
@rexluongo64702 жыл бұрын
@@CarShopTalk Do you have to pay a yearly subscription fee for IDS or is it a one time purchase with voluntary updates?
@CarShopTalk2 жыл бұрын
@@rexluongo6470 My day jobs at the dealership so I have access to it. I usually use forscan in the shop at home. I think IDS is available to independents as a yearly subscription, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some where, motorcraft.com maybe, you can get a 48 hour subscription to it fairly cheap. You’d have to have a VCM for it to be useable tho. Forscan or even Forscan light on a phone will do most of the things it can do at a way better price.

2009 F250 5.4 Crank no start. I have power into the Driver module but nothing coming out. I installed a new driver module. Still no power to the fuel pump. Any info would be great. Thanks!!
@CarShopTalk Жыл бұрын
At the driver module the violet / white wire should be power, blue / gray should go to ground ( I have seen the ground wire be the problem before), yellow / gray is power from the driver to the fuel pump, white / brown is ground from the driver to pump, yellow / orange is the fuel pump command wire from the pcm to the driver module and brown with white is the fuel pump monitor from the driver to pcm. Any codes? The fuel pump only runs / has power for a few seconds when you turn the key on unless you’re cranking or the engine starts.

HI , hoping you may have an insight please , , the place i work at has a few f series trucks , im having problems with one of them a 2008 f350 5.4 triton , .ok , it loses fuel pressure .. so i looked at the FPDM and replaced it , when fine for about 20 mins then same thing , got another used module , same thing happened , i threw my basic scanner on it , and fuel pressure was good at 40 odd psi , at idel etc , and would drive fine , as it lost power the scanner showed a complete drop off on psi , so something isnt talking to the module , i replaced a the fuel pressure sensor , checked the inertia switch , i jumped the plug for the FPDM and got 75 psi a full 12 volts , if it stops , i leave it for 20 mins or so and it will start right up , but will fault out shortly after ......i live in saskatchewan canada , im leaning towards the PCM not sending the signal for the FPDM to keep the psi going , anyone have any ideas? , i wont go to a dealer , . i can do the work , also , no codes are thrown at all when this happens , except for when i jump the wires to get it moving , it shows "high pressure at the rail " and it would with a full 12 volts ... cheers for any help blair

I’ve never had a PCM not command the FPDM so I doubt it’s the PCM. I have had corroded or broken wires between the PCM and FPDM, but I think all of those set codes. I would wonder about the fuel pump itself. I’ve seen a lot of fuel pumps lose pressure as the pump warm up. Once they cool down they work again.

2003 is not going to have a fuel pump driver module. Power goes from the central junction box, through the inertia switch to the fuel pump. What do you mean by running out fuel and plugging the fuel regulator? Is fuel is coming out of the vacuum fitting on the regulator the diaphragm has ruptured and the regulator needs to be replaced.
