No-Hybrid Hyundai i20 N Rally1 Testing at Monza Rally Show + 2024 Rallye Monte-Carlo Hybrid Car

Well, yes, Hyundai (together with Toyota) has fielded the 2024 Hyundai i20 N Rally1 without the hybrid system in operation. I didn't understand if the battery pack was present but not in operation or wholly removed. What is certain is the fact that it was not active during all three days of the Monza Rally Show. I must thank my friend @19bozzy92 who first pointed this out to me. This was confirmed by the absence of active safety lights on the windshield and on the sides of the car. When the hybrid part is operational, the lights identify its operation. This lets mechanics and course marshals know whether touching and operating the vehicle is possible. In addition, in the rear bumper, the air intakes needed to let air pass and allow the hybrid system and the battery pack to cool were closed. Searching online, I found some images in which Hyundai had already tested the car in November 2024 without the hybrid system. Specifically, these were pre-Rally La Nuciá tests in Spain. So the Monza Rally Show 2024 was a further opportunity to carry out development tests in preparation for 2025, when the cars will return to being powered only by the 1.6-litre turbocharged internal combustion engine using eco-friendly fuels and capable of developing approximately 380 Hp. The lack of a hybrid system will make the Rally1 lighter, and the minimum weight will decrease from 1260 kg to 1180 kg for the 2025 season. The flange on the engine intake will be reduced from 36 to 35 millimetres to keep the weight-to-power ratio unchanged between the 2024 and 2025 seasons. While waiting to see the new cars in action, I created this video using the material filmed in the 2024 season. So, the first stage of the WRC world championship at the Rallye Monte-Carlo in regulation configuration with a hybrid system and the last significant event of 2024 where they tested already considering the changes that will be made in 2025 and therefore without a hybrid system. Ebbene si, la Hyundai (assieme a Toyota) ha schierato la Hyundai i20 N Rally1 della stagione 2024 senza il sistema ibrido in funzione. Non ho capito se il pacco batteria fosse presente, ma non in funzione, oppure completamente tolto. Quello che è sicuro è il fatto che non fosse attivo durante tutti e tre i giorni del Monza Rally Show. Devo ringraziare l'amico ‪@19Bozzy92‬ che per primo mi ha fatto notare questa cosa. Ed infatti a confermarlo sono state l'assenza delle luci di sicurezza attive presenti sul parabrezza ed ai lati della vettura. Quando la parte ibrida è operativa le luci ne identificano il funzionamento. Questo permette ai meccanici ed ai commissari di percorso di sapere se è possibile toccare ed operare sulla vettura oppure no. Oltre a questo, nel paraurti posteriore, le prese d'aria necessarie per far passare l'aria e consentire il raffreddamento del sistema hybrido e del pacco batteria erano chiuse. Cercando su internet ho trovato delle immagini in cui la Hyundai aveva già testato l'auto, nel mese di Novembre 2024, senza il sistema ibrido. Nello specifico si trattava dei test pre-Rally La Nuciá in Spagna. Dunque il Monza Rally Show 2024 è stata un'ulteriore occasione per svolgere delle prove di sviluppo in previsione del 2025 quando le auto torneranno ad essere alimentate dal solo motore termico da 1.6-Litri turbo con l'impiego di carburanti ecologici e capace di sviluppare circa 380 Hp. La mancanza del sistema ibrido renderà le Rally1 più leggere ed il peso minimo diminuirà dai 1260 Kg attuali ai 1180 Kg della stagione 2025. La flangia sull'aspirazione del motore verrà ridotta da 36 a 35 millimetri in modo da mantenere invariato il rapporto peso-potenza tra la stagione 2024 e il 2025. In attesa di vedere le nuove vetture in azione ho creato questo video con il materiale filmato nella stagione 2024. Dunque la prima tappa del mondiale WRC al Rallye Monte-Carlo in configurazione da regolamento con sistema ibrido e l'ultima importante manifestazione del 2024 dove hanno testato tenendo già in mente le modifiche che verranno apportate nel 2025 e quindi senza sistema ibrido. What's the "no-hybrid" rally1 car? Does it exist? I thought that according to the FIA regulations, rally 1 cars should only be hybrid, didn't I? P.S. Sorry, I just noticed the explanation in the subtitles, but I still didn't understand what the warning lights on the windshield were, and what was the purpose of the air intake on the rear bumper?

it doesn't need as much air intakes anymore. Some of them were to cool the hybrid system which is now getting removed. And the green warning lights were there to confirm that the hybrid system is safe, because it is a high voltage system that could get dangerous.

Safety lights are located on the windshield and both side pillars of cars. After a crash, a steady green light indicates it is safe to touch the vehicle. A flashing red light, along with a warning siren, means that the car is unsafe. With vehicles up to the 2024 season equipped with a hybrid/electric system, touching an unsafe vehicle after a crash could cause significant problems in the presence of high-voltage current leakage, and everyone should know that they can only intervene if the warning lights are green and never red. The air intakes in the rear bumper also often reveal the fans (in the Toyota and Ford Puma, they are even more visible) that cool the hybrid/battery system of this Rally1 car. The air intakes allow fresh air to enter quickly and, conversely, let heat escape from the hybrid system, which tends to heat up by its nature when running.

@manwhoneversleeps Thank you for your detailed reply! So I guessed correctly about the purpose of the air intakes in the bumper, and you confirmed my guesses! But why do they remove the hybrid system at all? I have already seen a japanese video where from Toyota Yaris rally1 also removed the hybrid system for participating in a local rally🤔

@@Mr_Twister77It's a shitty situation. The company that produces the hybrid systems for all the cars is basically starting to ask too much money for servicing the systems and the systems are ridicolously unreliable and break all the time for no reason. I personally don't really care, because the cars will still look and sound just as mental as they did with the hybrid. Gotta enjoy them while they last :). Also they won't really be slower. Maybe a few seconds a stage or absolutely nothing. The cars will be lighter without the hybrid.

I've read this several times on the web because many have wondered about it. I've also talked about it with friends. It would seem (I use the conditional because I'm not a rally mechanic and don't work in these teams...) that the white smoke from the car's left rear part is oil vapour from the crankcase vent. It must be related to an internal combustion engine fluid since the flow rate increases as soon as the engine revs increase. However, it is not associated with the hybrid system. The car at the Monza Rally show did not have the hybrid unit in operation; I did not understand if it was installed, not working, or completely removed. In any case, it was not in operation during the entire rally. As soon as I have the opportunity to film the new cars in the 2025 configuration, which should be very similar to these, and, by regulation without the hybrid unit, I will try to film that area well. If, as I imagine, some vent similar or identical to this one continues to be seen, we will have absolute certainty that it is related to the engine and not to the hybrid/electric system.

@@fafalala92 Check out the video I just uploaded of the 2025 Hyundai without the hybrid system. I filmed it today. You can see the smoke from that little pipe at the start. So, since there is no hybrid system, it must necessarily be related to the internal combustion engine.

Se quella che ha girato a Monza non è ibrida, che cos'è lo sfiato che si vede all' interno della ruota posteriore sinistra? Quando inquadrano l' auto da dietro...

Guarda, questa cosa l'ho letta varie volte sul web, perchè molti se lo sono chiesti. Ne ho parlato anche con amici. Sembrerebbe (uso il condizionale perchè non sono un meccanico da rally e non lavoro in queste squadre...) che quel fumo bianco che esce dalla parte posteriore sinistra dell'auto sia vapore d'olio proveniente dallo sfiato del basamento del motore. Deve essere qualcosa di correlato a un fluido del motore a combustione interna, poiché la portata aumenta non appena i giri del motore aumentano. Ma non è correlato al sistema ibrido. La vettura al Monza Rally show era priva dell'unità ibrida in funzione, non ho capito se fosse installata e non funzionante oppure completamente tolta. Comunque non era in funzione durante tutto il rally. Appena avrò modo di filmare le nuove vetture in configurazione 2025, che dovrebbero essere molto simili a queste, ed appunto, da regolamento prive dell'unità ibrida, cercherò di filmare bene quella zona. Se, come immagino, un qualche sfiato simile od uguale a questo continuerà a vedersi, avremo l'assoluta certezza che appunto è qualcosa di correlato al motore e non al sistema ibrido/elettrico.
