Building on the Ship of Theseus discussion, I recently thought about that concept as I spent the past year upgrading individual parts of my old gaming PC to the point that the only part left from the original build is the case. I even used the parts from the old PC to rebuild it in a new case for my sister to use, so essentially I gave my sister my old computer since it's all the same parts put in a different case. Come to think of it, this is kind of like that one episode of Futurama where Hermes slowly replaced each part of his body with robot parts until eventually his brain was replaced too and Zoidberg rebuilt the original Hermes from the discarded human parts. Also, the bit about consciousness being transferred is quite interesting because I basically had to do that with my computer when I cloned my hard drive to my new SSD. There was a brief moment when the "consciousness" of the old computer was still present in the old parts before I wiped it and installed a new OS on it. It's like if you transferred your consciousness to a new brain in a new body then you wiped out all the memories from the brain of the old body. Would you still consider the old body you, or is the new body with your current consciousness the real you? I guess in a way, it's kinda like how people often look back on their past selves as a different person. When you've changed so much over time, the person you were before isn't the same person you are now, and I guess you can apply that to a physical sense with the whole body replacement stuff.

51:39 that's my theory with gen alpha (I have a little brother and sister), I think the mega layers of irony became so complex that if you were outside the cultural bubble you would not get it, these new kids start going on the internet who haven't been with us the whole time to see the cultural irony grow, so they often take it at full face value. The newer generation a lot of the time doesn't think these memes are ironic, which is scary imo (think about the looksmaxxing stuff and all that). That's why some of them are the way they are imo (beyond all the other terrible dopamine stuff and all that), they are saying stuff they don't understand at all cause others are saying it, and they start to believe its real and don't realise we were actually making fun of the original thing, not encouraging it. TBF lots of kids I knew just said memes without understanding them to be funny, but they at least new they were supposed to be funny and stupid and an ironic joke of some kind, the younger generation sees memes as trends that are encouraging something not making fun of something, they don't see the irony cause they haven't been trained to by anyone. Also harmful memes (don't laugh) like "gyaat" encourage boys to learn to sexually harass women at a young age

About the ship thing: The parts are never all replaced at the same time. So one part of the boat might be new but if it functions along the other preexisting parts for a time it organically becomes just another part of the whole ship again. A humans cells change over time but its not one single change where all your cells change at the same time. Instead its a slow process in which new cells blend into the old cells over time, then by the time old cells die the new cells have become a part of "you". Thoughts?

Hey Jar boys and Jarlings alike, I recently played a demo for a game coming out called "The Alters", which is about a bloke on a mission to another planet, who creates copies of himself from alternate timelines where he chooses different paths in life. Eg. One of the copies is a scientist, one is an engineer, etc. To all do different jobs aboard his space vehicle after the rest of the crew die. You have to juggle managing all of their personalities, and try to make them get on enough not to ruin the mission and kill everyone. It seems like it will be a really interesting game and sounds like it will be right up your alley, like it is mine. Xoxoxoxoxoxo

i think replacement metal gear B team started to work on mgs4 without kojima but it was going so badly he had to be parachuted back in to takeover (probably why that game is so uneven with weirdly designed levels like the stalk one guy, then have a huge bike chase and then its over type one) also fans heard he wasnt doing 4 initially and sent so much hate mail to konami and kojima he felt forced back into it or something along those lines

The "piss" filter seems to be optional in Delta. I dislike how everyone rags on "piss" filters for it being the worst thing ever when really it was just an artistic choice in most cases. Resident Evil 5 and GTA IV look awful with it removed for example, clearly it's meant to be there in the majority of cases.

Regarding the dialogue alex and jim had 45 minutes in, I agree that the wave of comedians like ricky gervais and dave chapelle doing anti-cancel culture comedy is corny, but I have to take issue with the "free speech isn't freedom from consequences" part. I am not sure to what degree the bros agree with that statement, but I think that freedom is necessarily freedom from consequences. To have open and free exchange of ideas without fear of backlash, physical violence, or being ostracized is to me, a hugely important part of democracy - freedom from those things mentioned as a result of the government, groups of individuals, or the individuals themselves. How do we know what's wrong or right if the contrary voices are censured constantly? Ofc I don't mean JK rowling, she has a huge platform already, as does Ricky Gervais (His spiel I think comes from the illusion that the people "cancelling him" DO have the ability to actually restrict his freedoms etc, which the audience buys into and as a result his comedy is edgy and boundary pushing when in reality its quite dull and uncreative most of the time, because it revolves around the same few topics). And there are also voices in culture who we all agree are bad, like Neo-nazis, etc. But we think voices like those are bad for a reason, which can be articulated. If the voice of neo-nazis is called out and vilified, they cannot defend themselves and be shown to be wrong, and as a result they can grown stronger in the silence we give them. Finally, I think the most important thing in this discussion is that, who decides, what "Freedom of speech" is, and what "consequences" are, and what consequences are appropriate (and who chooses those). We might think stripping a transphobic person of a sponsorship or slapping someone who is racist is morally correct (no disagreement here), but one day, those people might be in power, and then they can decide to impose those consequences they think are appropriate on us, and we have no say in them. E.g Salman Rushdie was stabbed because a book he wrote was perceived to be blasphemous by the islamic community. Is this an example of a consequence of free speech? If I wrote a racist book, would something smaller, like me being fired be appropriate? Anyway I just thought what you guys said was thought provoking, love the cast
