I know this is a really old episode and I've seen it a few times, but I just noticed @41:00 that they didn't put banisters on the basement stairs. Very odd for Mike Holmes and crew to miss this. Weird.

I loved the Electricians attitude towards the house. As long as he is working on it, it is HIS HOUSE. That is the same attitude I take when I am working on something and at times working for someone else.

I love the fact that the electrician, plumber and all the trades that Mike brings in to the houses act as though it’s their own house. They go out as the way to do extras and not just the basics like so many do. I like the fact that the carpet layer put extra padding down because he knew there’s a little boy in the house that would be playing on it. Way to go all of you. And of course, Mike Holmes, Damon, and the crew all work hard and do extras also. That’s where it starts from. It’s so nice to see!

Who is the "right"home inspector???? We're in Maryland, and my daughter just bought a new house. How do you find the most experienced inspector ?????
@donnamurphy56986 ай бұрын
My dad bought me a house when I was homeless. I had no income and he wouldn't pay for a home inspection. He died shortly after the purchase. I've spent all my inheritance on repairs and there is so much more to do. My disability only goes so far.

No covered entrance to the front door? Bad move Holmes. There's no way I want to get drenched while unlocking the door. The roof overhang doesn't protect the door.The metal awning may not be attractive. It could be replaced with a wood shingled entrance roof. But why spend the money? The rest of the work in the house was very good.

There ARE National Codes for Construction, Plumbing, Electrical and H/V/AC. WHY are "Home Inspectors" Not Required to at least show "Reasonable Proficiency" in understanding those codes, Before a License is Issued? Insurance Companies could easily Force this issue! A large Administration would Not be required. 1-2 Office Administrators with Computers in each State with one Office could shuffle the paperwork, once Implementation has taken place. All States and Cities Would need to ensure their Specific Additional Codes were kept up to date. The "Reasonable Proficiency" would be provided by Written Testing which could be done in stages. Read the Code(or gain through Employment) then take the Test for each portion. When Completed the Applicant Would Qualify as a Home Inspector. Liability Insurance Required!

It all amazes me, he always finds the worst of the worst cases. As a real estate agent myself sounds like your agent did you a disservice and gave you horrible advise to not get a home inspection. The only time you exclude a home inspection is if your buying the land or doing a house tear down.. and even then you would do a tank sweep.

Brit here, home inspections? by who? the inspectors are not qualified to a national standard, do not carry proof of indentures and qualifications why?- dont need them! Any fool can set himself up as a inspector with a realtor and earn money! The inspectors need inspecting themselves. Why isn't there National exams and certificates? Its obvious these jack the lads keep Mike and the TV company in business!!

I absolutely love all Holmes show's. But the only that gets me riled up is the fact that Mike himself alway says "get a home inspection before you buy" but 99% of the time in these shows he declares "I didn't see this & that & the problem here & over there in the inspector's report". Are there any good ones left in Canada ? This show really made home inspectors seem like a bunch of lazy ass scammers & bozo's ... together with all these so called "contracters" it's like the CDA homebuilding industry is as bad as it can be !
