WONDERFUL VIDEO JIM. Many people don't realize that a knot in their cordage weakens the cordage by 20 to 30 percent. I think Robert's Toggle combined with the standard rapid deployment ridgeline would be just about as good as it gets. ALSO everyone please remember if you want to make an educated guess at the recommended working load of a rope, it usually falls between 15% and 25% of the line’s tensile strength rating.

I used to have trouble with ridgelines and knots in general. This one is practically fool-proof unless one of your toggles splits. If you're concerned about that you can always carry a spare toggle stored on the ridgeline.

It was over 65 years ago as a kid that lived next door to a huntin, fishin, camping redneck. When I’d see him in his garage, I’d go hangout and ask the bazillion questions of the typical 7 year old. One day I mentioned to him that his dog had just lifted his leg on something on a lower shelf of his workbench. After the cussin’d ceased and the dog was…reprimanded, he took what I learned to be a canvas tarp outside and began to unfold it, telling me he needed to wash it and hang it to dry. Upon unfolding it, he discovered that it was not the first time that dog had been lifting his leg on it. It was stained through multiple layers and had black mold all over it. Good thing that dog had made himself scarce by then. He grumbled about going to throw it away and I talked him into giving it to me. I had no idea what the heck a tarp was and why it was so special to him but since it was, and he was gonna trash it, I’d take it. He did explain the best way to maybe salvage it and I set to work with the process. Hosing it down and scrubbing the black, moldy parts and putting it over the clothes line to hang till dry. It had course, scratchy ropes all over it but the thing I’m getting to, is that the ropes each had what over the years I learned to be “toggles”. Like Robert’s. Obviously, they’ve been around likely for centuries. I had the tarp till I left home after graduation and never understood its versatility other than to cover up my stuff in the garage. Becoming an outdoorsman myself, and learning how special a good canvas tarp can be, I came to appreciate how unique that particular tarp actually was. I’ve NEVER seen its equal for the specifics of its build style. Over the years I’ve sorta reengineered it from that 7 year old’s memory and would love to commission a tarp maker to reproduce it but now I’m too dang old to really use it. This is my first visit to your channel Jim. I’ve seen your name mentioned elsewhere on KZbin but never searched for your channel. That changes today. You did a great, brief show n tell and you did it one handed. Not letting yourself miss out on the fun of the bushcraft experience. Props to you sir and God bless.

One thing that might improve your toggle is that after you go around it once tying it off. you could lay a figure 8 lash on top of it for more locking / lashing power. You know like they use to lash boats to dock cleats. Still no knots, but a much secure lashing. Jm2c…. Hope it helps. Godspeed
