In this video, we’re unpacking why so many of us feel less confident without makeup. From first impressions and societal pressure to personal insecurities, I’m diving into the real reasons behind that bare-faced vulnerability. I’ll share my own story-why makeup feels like part of my daily routine, not just a beauty tool, and how it helps me feel more like myself. Plus, we’ll explore the history of makeup (did you know Cleopatra rocked eyeliner for more than just the looks?) and why it’s okay to love makeup without letting it define you. 💄 Let’s chat! Drop a comment and share how you feel without makeup. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and join the conversation-you’re beautiful, makeup or no makeup!

I have to admit, I have only worn make-up for special occasions, dates, weddings, funerals, birthdays, etc... never bothered for work, never had the time with working full-time, clean house, kids and stepkids to look after, cart kids to sports, dance, music, etc. However, when I turned 60, I was so sick, I had to retire early and I've spent the last couple of years 'finding myself'... and I have to say Nisha, you have been one of the beacons of light that have helped me find myself and re-evaluate my life and find new interests, new paths.. and I did a big declutter of clothes and freshened up my wardrobe, got interested in make-up and my make-up collection has tripled or more in size, with some highend brands, that I never would have spent that money on myself before!! And I never had the time to 'waste' on myself!! So now, I am happy to spend time on myself, I see myself as value, use all the fancy skincare products, and although I had 'good skin', I can see a definate improvement in fine lines and wrinkles... I feel i deserve some nice new clothes and i really enjoy dressing up just to go to the shops 😊

I love this discussion! I always ALWAYS feel better if I have my makeup on and my hair done. And I notice if I’m out in my sweats with no makeup and hair up in a bun, people treat me differently than if I have put my makeup on and done my hair. It’s truly an impression you give off to people. And it’s just true that every woman looks better with a little effort to look nice ❤️ and have a friendly personality!

Absolutely loved this chat thank you Neisha I’m 77 and started wearing makeup at 14 yrs old , my Mum always put on powder rouge they called it back then and lipstick every morning after she had done her housework, then in afternoon she would shower and repeat before my father came home from work, so it taught me I think, I enjoy wearing makeup and will continue to do so until I can’t. 🌺💕

Very good topic! I do and I do not wear makeup. I live in the country and grow a big garden. In the summertime it is extremely hot and humid and when going out to do my garden makeup would just be useless and a sweaty mess. I am okay if a neighbor happened to pull in the drive and of course, I am okay being around my husband without it. When I go to town or grocery shopping I try to present my best. Yesterday, my husband and I were coming home and out of the blue he said, you are a very attractive woman for 68 years old. I cannot tell you how good that made me feel as he is a man that doesn’t give compliments lightly and seldom. I will be extremely honest here it took me years to be comfortable with myself and to know my value. My married life started with my first husband leaving me with a 2 year old and pregnant for another woman. I lost all of my self confidence. I apologize this is lengthy, but I do find it an interesting topic and love hearing your take on it and reading the comments.

I love my makeup. I started wearing it in my mid teens. I stopped from about 2013 to 2023 because I was dealing with several illnesses including hair loss. I just gave up. I felt so defeated. it was about August of 2013 I took the plunge and got myself a wig. It sparked the life back into me and I started wearing a bit of makeup again too. Now I'm back to full glam lol, makeup, lashes, pretty wigs of all styles and colors. It makes me feel better and look better even on my worst days.

So sorry to hear of your health struggles. I'm glad you've found a way to feel better. I can relate somewhat to your story. I think I started wearing make-up in my later teens, but I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for the past 7 years, (since being 52 years old), & have been house-bound for the past 3 years, and on my worst days I don't have the energy to put make-up on. If I'm having a visitor, on a better day, I do wear make-up. Prior to CFS I wore mascara and lipstick every single day to match my olive complexion. I have never watched so much KZbin in all my life as since I've had CFS. Nisha's Channel is lovely and brings me a lot of joy, and I've learnt a lot of make-up tips from her, so when I have visitors I do a whole face of make-up now. Take care. Blessings Jo (NZ) 💛 PS. I definitely don't want to be seen without make-up on.

Absolutely well said. I completely agree with you. I'm lucky to still have very good skin at 50, I've had it my whole life. So a BB cream and mascara are enough for me. As I'm also a very pale complexion type, I think a bit of freshness and emphasis are completely fine. I've also been asked several times by colleagues if I'm not feeling well (and the question always came up when I wasn't wearing any kind of makeup). So everyone does what they feel comfortable with. Thank you for addressing this topic so openly and honestly.👍

I feel better with make-up, and it is a routine, like brushing your teeth and hair. I think everyone should use make-up to enhance and not hide. I try not to judge someone who has on long false lashes and too much foundation. I usually think whatever makes them feel better, but I do initially think, less is better. I don't put on make-up to mask myself, but to make myself feel better, but people really ought to thank me for sparing them the initial shock in seeing me without make-up.

I don’t wear makeup if I’m staying in, but if I go out, even to the grocery store, I need a small amount on. I live in a city where I would never run into anyone I know, so I just feel better about myself mainly. I’ve always been a self conscious woman, not in a vain way. I’m also very pale, and do feel like I need a little color. I live in Las Vegas, but I stay out of the sun. I would love to be that girl who looks great with her hair pulled back and no makeup but that's not me. I don't like seeing myself with no makeup so I'm pretty sure nobody else would. 😂😂😂 I don't feel ready for my day until the teeth are brushed, the face is washed, the skincare applied, my makeup done, and my hair fixed. It is such a part of my daily ritual I can't imagine not doing it. My dad was always very particular about his grooming even though he was a farmer. Taking care of yourself is important I think, I’m a little older than you and struggle with foundation even with a primer it makes my lines look deeper so I switched to tinted moisturiser and spot treating areas with a good concealer I use the Lancôme one, always blush, always eyebrows on and a lippy, always get my hair done on a regular basis, I also use ziip halo, so why do I do this? It’s for me, it gives me confidence and I enjoy it😁 Louie’s snoring is comforting, love to the little fella❤

Nisha, we share so much of the thoughts and values! I too even if I had the flu. Or sick always take a shower and put on make up and do my hair. My mom who suffered from cancer back in 86 and passed away, made up always did her hair and she always said when you’re sick, you still get up put your make up on and do your hair and you will always feel better. I have always followed that advice. My mother was a model and one of my aunts were so was I! That being said did not have to follow in their footsteps, but because I love a little bit of that glamour, getting dressed every morning putting my make up on is, my natural routine. The only time I don’t wear make up well I do put mascara and eyeliner is when we are on a cruise or go to the beach lol. I too don’t make up for anybody else, but myself and I dress for myself. However, it is nice for my husband of 43 years to always hand me a compliment and I agree with you totally just age gracefully Anyway enjoyed this video and your chat. You are very creative. Looking forward to your next one.

It’s transformative to the soul and I love the whole process of self care and ritual. Plus it just makes me feel lovely! I’m 68 and find so much enjoyment in makeup and the whole discipline of cherishing life and making myself look my best! Thank you so much Nisha for your wonderful videos. I laugh along with you! ❤❤❤

Totally agree, do what makes you happy 👍. I'll be 70 in March, very happily retired, living alone and wear make up almost every day, even if I'm not leaving the house. For years I had horses and never bothered wearing make up to muck out stables or ride out (although I did wear make up for work so would have it on at evening stables but definitely not on a weekend unless I was going out in the evening afterwards). It's each to their own isn't it, do what makes you happy and feel good about yourself.

I do agree with you Nisha, we don't like our husbands to 'let themselves go' big beer belly, bad clothes, bad breath, messy long greasy hair....yuk! We expect them to retain their looks, so I think we need to also put in some effort too....and if it makes us feel good, noone should try and bring us down just because they are too lazy or cant be bothered to maintain themselves!! (Ive never heard you tell someone they should wear make-up because they look too boring!! So how dare they tell you you wear too much!!! As I said, I didn't have time daily, but now I do, and I love it when my husband says 'wow, you look great, where are we going?" As he is used to me doing make-up because we were going somewhere special! And its taken a while for him to say, "wow you look great", and not think we are going out!!😂❤

I am the opposite of you when it comes to makeup. I feel so free not having to put on a face every day. When I was young, I was so self conscious, I would never leave the house without full makeup. I was literally afraid for someone to see my naked face. However, in later years, after marriage, my husband made me feel I was pretty enough bare faced. So, I stopped wearing makeup, He didn't like snuggling up to a makeup face. If there is a special event, I curl my eyelashes, maybe a little mascara, & lip gloss. But never foundation, as it makes me feel like I'm wearing a mask & wondering if its melting. So, now instead of feeling self conscious without makeup, I feel self conscious with it. Weird. I do think those who wear it look beautiful, & it gives them an edge, but at this time in my life its not for me. Maybe when my age spots get worse I'll feel comfortable going back to it, as long as it doesn't gather in the creases. Older women look older when that happens. Who knows. like you said we change as time goes by?

I would never go out of the house without make-up. It’s part of my identity. It started for me when I was around 14. I am very very fair with light blue eyes. My eyelashes and eyebrows are so very fair so I need make-up to give me features. As a teenager, when I started wearing contact lenses and got into makeup-up it was like a whole new world!! I always say I’m like a newly born albino mole without my make-up!!!😂😂😂 I completely agree with you Nisha…it’s make-up for yourself, no-one else. Hi Nisha. This was such an interesting subject in your video today. I have worn make up for many years and the reason I began in my mid teens ( apart from at school!) was that I’ve always loved art, aesthetics and fashion. I’ve never worn foundation but when I highlighted my eyes and lips I felt that it enhanced my facial features. Many years later and now in my late 60’s, I think it’s a case of my feeling and looking better with, rather than without, make up. If I’m not going out, I don’t bother but I’m lucky as I have really clear skin and also it’s good to have a day free of wearing make up. However, if I go out the front door, I feel so much better if I look like I’ve made an effort and maybe that’s part of my wanting to look my best as I’m aging. Whatever, a regular cleansing and moisturising routine is essential with or without makeup up! Xx❤️🥰P.S My Pug is a snorer too !!😂🐾❤️

HI Nisha! You are my inspiration! I love your quirky sense of humour, but more especially, your interest and passion for make-up! Since I was tiny, I was fascinated by my mum's dressing table cosmetics (she didn't have many, because money was tight), but I remember her blue tin of Nivea face cream, some green hair gel(!), and a perfume atomiser, which I thought was the height of sophistication! I am an ad-man's dream, when it comes to skin-care/make-up/perfume/bath products etc; I lust after the Chanel's / YSL'S and Dior's, but admit, it's usually, E.L.F that I come home with - (a girl can dream)! For me, make up, is the best version of myself, that I can be...I would no more go out without make-up, than go out without brushing my teeth; it's part of that self-care ritual/pampering, whatever you call it. (of course my secret fantasy, is to be your 'cleaner', when you are having a re-set on your make-up drawer) Nisha-so that I could stash away all the 'goodies' you are throwing out! That, or get looked at at the Clinique counter for the night.... Do you think I need help?!! 😊love sue xxx 🌟

Hi Nisha! I started wearing makeup when I was 14! At first it was to camouflage my dark circles. It's hereditary with me! But very quickly make-up gave me so much more. I never go out without at least some foundation. I've appreciated it even more over the last 7 years, because I've had positive results with skincare. And cosmetics are easier to apply and the result so much more beautiful. Today I'm very confident in all aspects of my life! I take my time and I love make-up. There's always a bit of a challenge with my dark circles, but otherwise it's really the love of make-up that motivates me. Today, with the new techniques and tips you've given us, we can't help but feel “fabulous”! Have a good week! xxx

Excellent video, Nisha! When I delivered my 2nd son 33 years ago, I went in without a stitch of makeup. The next day, the nurse who helped deliver my son came into my room and stared at me (I had a full face of makeup on when she walked in). She didn't think I was the same person that delivered my son the day before. What does that tell you about me wearing no makeup! I never forgot it, and because of that, I hardly ever went out of the house without makeup. But lately, the older I get, I venture out without makeup. I was young and naive when I was in my early 30's. Age is a wonderful thing. Best, Angela

Nisha, hello! I absolutely agree that makeup or not is a personal matter, like everything else in this world, whether I want to get married or not, if I've been there before, but I don't say never say never. Everything is changing. But without makeup or hair, I immediately become a grandmother, and I feel like my soul is even starting to shrink from my appearance. After all, cosmetics were ritual, magical since ancient times, fashion changed and makeup changed: from a pale, sickly complexion and eyes, to an expressive healthy appearance with a blush on her cheeks, with a bright look and delicate pink lips on her face- it was believed that a girl with a pale face would scare off the future groom with her sickly appearance and that people so and they will think that the girl is probably not healthy, and, of course, makeup changes the inner mood from "vinegar expressions ", as the Pope said recently, we need to get rid of and demonstrate to God and people the joy of being and this world, this does not mean that everyone should do makeup, but give joy to oneself and the world, and therefore to God. Thank you❤🌹🙏 Nisha❤❤❤❤❤xxxx

I'm with you Nisha, all the way everyday, I feel naked without makeup and enjoy looking and feeling better for wearing it. Thanks for the history on how makeup began and I'll keep on wearing it forever as it's my favourite thing about myself. I feel when I've done a good job and look so much better for it, its worth the time and effort. ❤😊

I'm 57 I started wearing make up at 16 in the 80's and I have everyday since and fixed my hair....I can't go out without it ever....I've gotten and get funny looks from some women and the giggles but too bad I'll never change myself and who I am for anyone. I don't feel normal without it now and that'll never change....😊

this video about no makeup no confidence was great to see. I am retired so dont wear much makeup anymore as mostly at home but I do wear concealer around my eyes due to heavy dark circles and some blush for my cheeks but more when going out actually dont wear foundation anymore only to special occassion due to skincare I zone in more there so my skin is hydrated and plump. I used to go to my dermatslogist due to psoriasis issues and advised back in the 90's look after you skin wear spf clean moistures and do microdermabrasion on my skin so now 57 years young dont have much wrinkles due to my Doctor back then. As he saw horrific skin conditions in using the incorrect skincare reactions to certain patiences. This is a personal view and everybody is different on how they perceive themselfs. But got me into wearing more makeup when you first came out in youtube years ago. Thanks for your informative video. You do you your way. Happy Days.🤩❤💄

I can relate to the freckles. I also had them all over my face and the pale skin too. I was teased relentlessly but eventually they faded many years later. Once I finished High School makeup was my obsession. It was my armour.

Amen sister! I’ve been playing with makeup since I was in grade school. I’m 61 now and still love my makeup! I do it for me as I feel better when I’m put together. I don’t do it if I’m just bumming around the house, but most days I get out so that means I’m putting my face on! I even wear makeup to the gym. Nothing heavy, but I do wear all the things. So true! Pamela Anderson is being touted as revolutionary for going makeup free but she still dyes her hair, which is like makeup for your hair. I wear makeup because I look bloomin' awful without it. Each to their own, but the makeup free brigade seem to be as bossy as the going grey brigade.

You look great Nisha, and it is your right (and millions of other women btw) to wear makeup, and you/we shouldn't have to explain to anyone why we wear makeup. They should be explaining why they don't! I started wearing makeup when I was flatting with a Lancome makeup assistant, and she would bring home all this makeup and tell me what I needed to be doing. She looked fabulous, and ever since then I've been wearing makeup. I was 19, and when I put makeup on, I never realised I could look so good. Also, it is a creative thing, because everyday you get to decide how you're going to look.

Hi Nisha - Great make up chat. I am of the opinion that with a bit of effort, we can really improve the way we look and feel, so why not. I think if you look good it improves your confidence, etc. I really don't see the downside. I also feel that so many women are so critical of other women and are ready to criticize given almost any opportunity. Its unfortunate, but true. I am so drawn to your channel because you share such great information with us, speak to us like your friend, are supportive and never critical. You are such a breath of fresh air. I have loved wearing makeup and been interested in it since I was a young girl. I’ve enjoyed applying it and experimenting with different techniques for many years. It makes me feel confident and pretty when I have makeup on although my world doesn’t end if for some reason I have to leave the house without it. I try to look my best for myself as well as my husband. I know now that we’re in our 70’s that’s not always possible sometimes due to medical issues but I still try to “fluff up” a bit if I can. It’s a signal to the world that I value and respect myself enough to put a good face forward. We all have different ways of doing that and if makeup isn’t your thing, no problem, do you. I bet though that women who don’t wear makeup have other ways of making themselves feel beautiful. Isn’t it wonderful how unique we all are!

This was great. ❤ As for me I have never ever been out of my house without at least what I call half face. I feel I look down right ugly and raggedy without makeup. I don't put makeup on on the weekends if we aren't going anywhere. I get tired of fooling with after spending 45 min every morning for work just on my face. Oh and I'm 59.

I agree with you. I work from home. I feel so much more together & productive when I at least put my skincare on & get dressed. I do sometimes just get up & start working in my pjs. That is fine from time to time but I eventually have to kick myself in the butt. If I do it too many times in a row. Lol I can leave the house with minimal makeup. However, a full face I feel much more confident! I LOVE that flower arrangement!

Hi all, I wear the basics if i have time when running errands. If not, i go barefaced. I've never been a makeup wearer. My mom either. I'm 64 now and like to wear a tinted sunscreen but i do have foundation in a shopping cart for the 1st time in my life! 😂 I love your makeup Nisha. I feel the opposite when i have "makeup" on. I'm not sure it looks good so I'm self-conscious. I also go through phases-- i wear it for awhile then don't. I never thought about me being unapproachable.... maybe there's something to that. 🤔 Hmmm

100 %!!! I feel very insecure without makeup. I don’t wear a lot. I am very fair and have gotten so used to how just a little makeup brings out my features. I feel that I look sick without it, since you cant see my lashes and brows since they are so light. But I think it’s definitely only due to the pressure of society. If i never started wearing makeup I might feel different. I don’t go outside without it, sadly.

I agree, we should all do what makes us feel good. I’m 55 and very much like to look and feel my best every day, but in recent years have concentrated on the health and condition of my skin, so no longer feel the need to cover my face up most days. I wear very minimal make up and love the natural look, as does my husband. I think that normalising not wearing make up if we don’t want to is a good thing and we’d probably all feel better about our bare faces if it was more socially accepted. I don’t think going make up free means not making an effort or looking a mess. We can go make up free and still look nice and put together. It’s more about looking after ourselves in general. It does make me sad when people comment negatively on celebrities who aren’t wearing makeup. I mean, it’s how their face really looks and why shouldn’t they show their natural bare face. Anyway, each to their own, but I wish people in general were a bit kinder and more accepting (I don’t mean you Nisha!) Your make up always looks lovely by the way. 😊

I don't wear make up if I'm staying at home and relaxing or if I go for a walk. If I step out to go to a store, bank, or post office to get my mail, I will wear at least eye make up and lipstick. I wear full make up for work, going out, etc.I do find not wearing make up "freeing", however, I will never give up make up entirely. I am pale, blonde, blonde eye brows and lashes, and I have freckles at my tender age (61). I love make up. Funny, I do have friends who never wear make up because they don't care to and friends who are married, who don't feel make up is necessary. To each her own. Thank you for talking about this topic.

Nisha I'm 100% with you on all points if I don't put my makeup on every day I don't feel good I've done this since I'm left school,I've had my own small business where I wore a suit every day, I've been in management where I had to wear a suit or at least be very smart so it all became part of me ,and as you say my morning routine, I couldn't not do it I've maybe toned my makeup down over the years, but like you I could not go out without my makeup, not to impress anyone,I just know I look anc feel better with my face on , I have uneven skin tone u used to have freckles but as I got older they disappeared, I have green eyes , so putting on foundation and accentuating thy better points namely my eyes always made me feel better , I think people even treat you differently, without make unless your stunning without it ,which I am not ,I feel you become invisible even to the same sex but great video I really enjoyed your opinions on it all as I said I could not agree more ❤

I didn’t start wearing make-up until my 60s. The reason is hair loss, particularly my eyebrows. Before that, I dabbed on a couple of dots of concealer over broken capillaries by my nose and threw on some lip balm- that was it! I miss those days but I am so grateful for eyebrow pencil:).

My mom used to dress up too for work and I think I got it from her. I liked it from a teen. My mom didn't want me to wear makeup too young, but I always had dark circles and was pale. At 14 , I would cover up the circles. But I didn't wear foundation until my 30's when I saw the sun damage from my teens. I'm 60 soon and I like to wear make up when I go out, I don't wear it for work just skincare. I like to look different when I go out, my husband would not care whether or not I was wearing it and I always tell him that it is my thing I like to look put together. It does not bother me shopping or working without make up and occasionally I have gone out makeup free if it has been a spur of the moment thing, but I feel better enhancing my features when in company. I don't wear it for anyone else just for me. Years ago I would not leave the house without foundation and mascara nowadays I am more confident in myself and am happy for people to see my naked face as I don't really care what judgy people think of me. But I agree you should all do you I have friends who wear no or very little makeup and when out I am probably the most made up but we are all equal and all beautiful and so are you. Beauty comes from within but it is amplified by inner confidence so we all need to find that happy medium and strive to build ourselves up.

With that said, that is what makes me feel good and if someone else is happy with no makeup and hair not done, then by all means that is what they should do.

I agree with everything you're saying. When I started wearing makeup in my early teens, I felt and wanted to look cool and up to date. Everyone around me wore makeup. And Yes...we all felt that the guys liked it too. As I matured, grew up and became a confident woman, makeup became Psychologically.... part of my everyday life like taking a shower, brushing my teeth and putting myself together. My husband loved me no matter what...with or without makeup. However I agree that both men and women choose to "take care of themselves" in whatever way they want or not. It's such a personal choice. At my present age of 71 I love makeup. I feel put together, pretty, and I care how I look (for myself first). Do I feel that I look better with makeup than without? Absolutely. I like a fresh simple look. But that doesn't take away from my confidence in any area of my life at all. I have a full and meaningful life with or without the use of makeup. It doesn't define me. Those ladies out there who are natural beauties sans makeup and feel good in their own skin...kudos to you. None of us should be made to feel more or less with or without makeup. It's all a personal perspective and what makes each of us feel good. To all women out there...be true, loving and kind to yourselves. *Here's a lovely quote from Audrey Hepburn ( which I have hanging in my bathroom in a beautiful frame.) The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives and the passion that she shows. And the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years. - Audrey Hepburn
