I really like what they did to make lighting more fancy, but I’ve also put a lot of time into upgrading tech, and am struggling with the reduced amount of space mixed with the loss of my awesome upgrades. I also know it’s soon after the patch and bugs will hopefully be fixed, but the game is randomly crashing constantly. Mix that with the lack of quality of life updates and I’m struggling with 4.0 so far. 😅

They really messed up the game save process as well. The Auto save and Restore point both update when you exit your ship. The worst part of this update is none of these things were wanted by the players. I guess its our fault for assuming 'Quality of Life' update meant changes for the better.

I was immediately stricken with anxiety the moment I saw my inventories completely filled with mods. I thought "nope I'm not cleaning this up" and turned the game off. I don't understand why they game all the mods back if we can only stack 3 now. I likely won't be playing until the next expedition though.

My only real gripe is the upgrade limit being reduced from essentially 6 to 3. That bring said, I'd advise not getting rid of your packaged tech. Storage containers have a lot more room, so just stash them there for now. I'm not going to speculate on future changes, but I do know that packaged upgrades keep their stats so they are worth keeping.

@@DoubleDashGaming It was another hi kwality release where somehow they had no idea that their huge slot expansion changes didn't work at the ship / exosuit / mt upgrade stations. They likely just did their cheat codes to add more slots to test it out and didn't even spend 5 minutes playing it to see if it worked. But this is the same group that didn't spend 5 minutes to check if the inventory screens and transfer options were updated to work with the pilgrim exocraft either. lol

The update is weird. I am not saying that everything is bad. But the bad overshadows the good so much. What did they thought about the whole "only three upgrades" now. That is just.....dumb. This isn't a glitch. They specifically stated in the trailer this is a 'balance" change. They just wasted hundreds of hours of people who min maxed theirs stuff. Like myself. At least 300 hours down the drain. Probably even more. This needs to be reverted asap. I have absolutely no desire to play the game right now. In any purchased game, players invest two currencies: real world money, and real world time. The latter is almost always the greater investment by far, certainly so with NMS. Removing roughly 50% of the power of the ships for "balancing", fails to recognize that it unbalances the cost in time spent. In short, whether intended or not, HG has failed to recognize that players had a second invested currency in them.

If they fix the inventory issues, I’ll view the update as a positive. I like the new modes and the visual improvements. But the loss of so many hard fought upgrades is a huge negative. Also the layout and lack of a ‘sort’ button make the inventory a bit clumsy to navigate. But I can only imagine how much work has gone into this. I’m sure they will fix these things and it will end up being a great update overall. I’m just surprised they released it as it is rather than finding and fixing the issues before declaring it complete.

I was so mad at first that I considered putting the game down for good after hundreds of hours. I decided last night after work to log in and start fixing my ships, freighter, exosuit, and upgrading my multitool. Took me 5 hours last night and 2 this morning to fix 2 of my 6 ships, my freighter, my exosuit, and my multitool. It would’ve taken longer, but luckily I had been stockpiling inventory upgrades for all of the above. With my luck, now that I’ve deleted everything I couldn’t use, they’ll change something or let us have 6 upgrades again, then I’m going to have to go do more hunting lol

I feel like calling this update “bad” this soon after release is a bit premature. The inventory changes were needed as the previous interface was cumbersome and having three types of inventory didn’t really help anything. Yes, the ability to overpower upgrades has been lost but some upgrades have also been given more power (like jetpack upgrades). While some may feel like their time building up some things was “wasted”, changes like these help to keep the game alive and ready for future growth. Sometimes we work hard on things and they end up going away. You could just as easily lose a save due to a technical issue (that feels much more like your hard work was destroyed), so give these changes some time and roll with it. I think we’ll find it’s not as detrimental as it may at first seem.

I'm very frustrated about the small window the Technology screen has, especially with the new way Tech gets damaged in the ship when fighting. While fighting 20 or so Sentinel Ships, it is tough to find the broken Tech while trying to evade enemy ships.

People keep saying store you mods and save them for later, but what if you had 9 ships all maxed out with double mods and had your personal inventory all maxed with double mods. What would you save your mods for. They would either need to be stored for no logical reason, sold for a dramatic loss, or store to trade with someone you may never encounter. None of which sounds appealing.

The huge problem that I have isn’t with the inventory but the fact everything is free. Now, there’s two modes in my opinion, permadeath and creative mode. No need for battles for nanites or looking for S class ships to scrap for augments. The other huge issue I have is now every ship has the same inventory so just base specs and looks I guess.

Funny thing is they made an update not too long before 4.0 that added cargo slots to ships and allowed haulers to have more cargo slots. Not sure why they reversed course and went back to all ships having the same capacity a couple of months later.

That there is a free mode for crafting and purchase at terminal feels kinda unrewarding for players who spent time creating a profitable mining and refinery setup. The design of the UI makes no sense, I rather have left right column at 3/1 ratio. The bar inside icons are missing, forcing you to read white percentages on a backdrop that is hard to see.

2:58 I feel like shields don’t even matter much since your ships modules can still get damaged even if they haven’t been completely depleted. Their only use now is stopping your ship from being completely destroyed. But I still find it dumb that tech modules can be damaged now without the shield even having to go down. It’s just random. During a fight with sentinel ships ,first fight since update launched, I was fight them for like 5 or 10 minutes while raiding freighters cause that’s how I get frigate fuel. Cause to me it’s easier to just raid freighters than it is to actually hunt down the resources to make them. First fight, after 5 or 10 minutes of fighting, I made sure to never let my shield go down and at some random point the game tells me that a phase beam upgrade was critically damaged by sentinels. So I went to the space station to repair it. Got into another fight. This time a upgrade for the photon cannon got damaged. So if you like being a pirate in no man’s sky, guess you can’t do that anymore :/ cause it’ll just cost you a lot of resources.

I was excited to jump back into the game so I picked up a gamepass sub. Saw the inventory... Turned it off and putting it back on shelf. I wouldn't say I feel like I wasted time because I still had fun. I'd keep playing through the nerf if there was something substantial to sink my teeth into along with such a negative change but it sounds like there isn't anything new so, peace.

I'm really torn about this update. I like the new UI in the discovery menus etc. Graphics and more streamline transitions from planet to space is not glitching for me anymore. That said ... inventory is confusing, hate the scrolling. Should be tab-categories instead of scroll. The categories that do exist like "high value" is pointless. And the difficulty possibilities for me kinda killed the sense of accomplished. Units and nanites are pretty much no longer necessary if you don't want to. Meaning farming is more or less dead. That game took a turn with a new gameplay which I don't think veteran players appreciate. I hope they listen to the community and make adjustments.

I accidentally uninstalled NMS a month ago whilst cleaning my Steam library and was getting ready to re download when the update was announced, however for now I think I'll patently wait and observe forums, videos and other sources to see where this update goes. Like many i'm delighted at some of the changes and features and at a loss for others. A strange decision on the inventory front after only recently adding Cargo slots for all but I do welcome the Tech only slots. It's something I've thought about in the past but yes the limited three does seem a bit of a nerf. It's only been a few days though so we'll see how much are bugs, which are features and what they'll change/revert.

This update just feels so unnecessary. They've the the UI look and feel worse, got rid of tabs which made everything easier to sort, removed most of our upgrades yet gave us huge inventories that can't be used for technology. Why would I need nor want so many inventory slots if the only thing I can use them for is putting another stack of miscellaneous stuff in it over my actual useful upgrades that I've collected over the hundred hours I've played the game. Some of my ships that I spent hours on grinding for the right upgrades and getting storage modules for, mean close to nothing when I have to sort out all the upgrades I have and decide which one was least worth the effort I put into grinding for them. Then, I still have so many storage slots I now have to unlock in literally everything. Now I have to go out and find freighter bulk upgrades, starship upgrades, grind for exo-suit upgrades and multi-tool upgrades ontop of the unnecessary revamp in inventory system and sorting through all my upgrades, and for what? A worse feeling and clunky storage system that I didn't really want. Great graphics update I guess, not that I bothered to even check considering I had to figure out why I couldn't get anything out of my freighter, which, in amazing, totally not annoying news, was because my matter beam was uninstalled, and I had no freighter bulk heads to make more room for tech. I just closed the game. Not even worth the hassle. If the revamp was actually good and more QOL changes were actually made, then maybe I could slog through it, but not with that abomination of a storage system.

I was irritated about the upgrade modules at first, but after spending a day getting all that straightened out, it really isn't too bad. I lost a lot of range on my explorer's hyperdrive, but after finally working on upgrading my freighter a bit, I can now make long jumps with it instead of my explorer. I'm wondering if they might rework upgrade modules in the future. I like the inventory update, but if those buttons on the side were tabs instead of highlighters, I think I'd like that part better. Overall, I feel like they're trying to balance it out more... One thing that I absolutely hate is that they lowered the price of AI drastically...

Considering that this update was mostly supposed to be about the switch, its quite a bummer that, since i installed the update, the game now crashes every single time i open the pause menu, and is just about unplayable. 60$ game that has been rendered useless until a patch that addresses this issue comes out, less than 2 days after its release... hello games really doesnt do launches well at all lol. I mever expected it to be flawless on the switch, but crashing every single time i hit the pause button? Come on man lol i cant access my logs now. No changing which mission is active, no looking at the catalogues or milestones, no uploading discoveries for nanites, and pray to whatever invisible cloud man you believe in that you dont accidentally hit the pause button after youve been out gathering or away from the ship... the auto saves can only do so much.. REALLY hoping for a patch when i get home that will atleast make the game playable again. I payed full ticket price for a 6 year old game, the least they can do it make it playable again..

So much to like about this 4.0 is being overridden by the inventory problems. Unfortunately, those can only be fixed so far. There's no going back on all the hours after 4.0 of sorting, and resorting trying to get things to work across freighter, exosuit, 9 ships, 6 multi-tools, and 6 exocraft. I don't know about others, but I lost some inventory items with 4.0, including some slot expansion chits I'd saved up. I do like the greatly expanded storage options (though not the grind of hours drop pod hunting). I like that now when I open an extra of a perfect X upgrade, I don't have to recycle it, I can box it and move it to a secondary craft or multi-tool, and the ability to stack unused upgrades is a huge plus. I did notice the quick patch fixed some of the really annoying bits, like having to manually move the slot maker, and returning the use of the A/D keyboard functions for decreasing/increasing when crafting multiple consumables. I do hope at least some of the lost power and functionality will be returned in the near future. That, I feel, will be the real issue, and at least we've got the cargo space to store the boxed upgrades until that happens.

In my opinion the game was good just the way it was, i like games where i can put alot of hours in and feel like i really worked for a specific item i wanted, now i can just get everything for free and it takes away my will to do literally anything in the game, why would i spend a week to get something i want when i can just get it for free at any point, i see no logical reason why i would play a game where everything is literally free… i think for new people this is a bad thing aswell, it’s cool to start a new game and grind your way through the end game and stuff, but now you can just get everything within your first hour, people are going to get bored so quickly and get burned out just because there’s no thrill anymore

1/10 worst update ever. they basicaly wiped half of our hard earned progression with the unnecessary inventory overhaul and made the other half meaningless as any1 can turn on cheat mode at any time to get everything in a second, ruining every sense of accomplishment. this is so sad. 100 % agree with your video, although my major "criticism" (or anger) lies with the unbelievably stupid cheat settings and not so much the inventory.

There are even more unfixed bugs in this update. For example the Atlas terminals, accessible by Rememberance items, are still broken, which means that if you like story of the game, you still can't access this part of story. And frigate commanders are still broken too - when I talk with them on my freighter, instead of some conversation I get opened some frigate info with a feed button of some Hermetic seal item in unknown number. And that isn't Organic frigate.

I definitely 100% agree this update is horrible on release Eh, I'd be I lot happier if I could equip ALL my technology instead of half. They need to seriously add more tech slots :/ especially for s class ships. Just for that reason. They’re s class. Why the fuck do most A and B class ships have more tech slots than most S class ships? Isn’t the point of an s class ship supposed to be that they’re better than other ships? Cause it really doesn’t come off that way :/ like base stats? Sure in some cases they are. In terms of inventory and tech slots? Nope s class ships are usually worse in most cases. No reason to even have them unless you find a rare one like the squid ship and just decide to collect them. If you don’t care about that tho then there’s no point in having an s class ship. The new inventory system is brilliant - the tech overload cut from 6 to 3 was well overdue; why on earth would you need 6 modules? The NPCs and sentinels in NMS are not exactly difficult.

A preemptive explanation would have gone a very long way towards preventing the uproar over exosuit and ship inventory fiascos. Personally I think the update falls very short, aside from adding switch that is. Maybe if I owned a switch I could fathom the reasoning better. But I agree with you, lowest ranking yet.

You can no longer put tech anywhere except for tech, and that is limited to 3. Hence why everyone is complaining. Again, try it first, THEN post a useless comment. 😉👍🏻 They could give us 6,000 tech slots and it won’t make a difference if we are limited to 3 of each kind. It’s pointless.

@@scubasteve2189 you and I see it diffrent I see I can use more uppgrades then before but not the same bonus as before. that is diffrent. but be able to use all tec on a ship so I can use what I want and not make it overkill dont need to be able to kill a enemy in 1s or emty a resorce in 1s never hade so many good uppgrade so dont know but as far I have play the game not full uppgraded I dont see the probem if I have to stand 1s longer or not.

Hello games tend to improve their game and fix bugs very quickly, and is generally 1 of few games that actually listens to its community, so i have no doubt that they will fix it, i havent updated my NMS yet so hopefully when they fix it all my stuff will still be there.

I think the update is really great overall. People had to know they were going to fix the loop hole with the technology and general tab. People just need to stop complaining about it. The easy access between technology and cargo is nice across the board. I would give it at least and 8 / 10 but only because there are still some bugs they need to iron out.

And you need to stop telling people what they need to do. People who grinded 6 slots of S class upgrades for there Ships , Multitool's and Exo-suit have a right to be Pissed. The most valuable thing a person has is there time and players that grinded to have the best possible Upgrades have had the time they spent doing this totally dismissed, And believe me ,that's hundreds of hours of time. My main save is well over 1200 hours and that's not even regarded as that much. So no! people do not need to stop complaining about it. If players valuable time has been stolen or disregarded, they have a right to express there opinions.

I have over 400 hours in this game and it is one of my favorites, but after this update specifically the Inventory I quit the game. I’m not going to spend another almost 50 hours upgrading my 8 ships and exocrafts and everything else. I’m completely disappointed.

Inventory and upgrades have been RAPED... game is wrecked, why would they do this? Months spent working on my jetpack, now I can't even fly across the space station without fuel running out. Just a horrible adjustment... so much has been straight up ruined. I will never play this again, can't even face looking at my messed up inventory. Game is dead to me now.

It doesn't bother me at all. I just found out you could have had 6 upgrades points between the tech tab and the inventory tab. So I personally didn't lose anything from the change. But this is going to tick off a lot of players that have "done it all" and the min-maxing is the only motivational carrot left to pursue.

to everyone, H.G. is working on the tech window glitch, should come out with a patch soonish. about the nerfing of the upgrades, i LIKE THIS, game is too easy with tons of upgrades. just my opinion though. don't dump your upgrades though, stash 'em in a storage pod in your freighter and hold on to them just incase HG suddenly change something and the upgrades have value again storage modules have TONS more room, and your vehicles also have more room, your nutrient processor has more room AND its inventory is persistent when you store it in your general inventory. this means you can fill it full of food and stick it back in general inventory and all that food will only take up one slot now. if you have a base on your freighter, with room to store your vehicles, their inventories are also persistent. you can also buy drop pod maps from the cartographer guy for nav data, then all you gotta do is fix the pod and voila! instant free inventory slot. also there is a workaround for the tech slot scrolling glitch, when you go to install a new slot in tech, tap your right or left directional button (on XB at least) to cause the flashing icon to pop up into the tech menu, if you do this correctly you will hear what i call "the buzzer from h*ll" then click on a locked slot and buy as usual. i heard from another youtuber that Hello Games i working on a fix for the fouled up tech inventory scroll bug. ok, lecture mode off, time for me to shut my loudmouth yap. if i bothered anybody, i apologize, it was not intentional.

Os not that bad. Relaxed mode is great. But is true that making a proper river is not the end of the world for a developer. The addition of a new biome happened once in years (humid biome) People would not get mad if they could revert in a button change the last replaced biome in a new dimmention and would open up many possible new biomes without messing up the player base. But better water and rivers I would love to see. They do the unexpected all the time it seems. What really mess me up is a bed you cannot sleep(like Minecraft to play on daytime), a chair you cannot sit, and the fixed camera while you sit and the lack of usability of settlement rooms. Many things to get better over time.

Well, i have to say that i disagree with you on that one.... 4.0 was supposed to be a 'play the way you want'... that's ok... however, the way i was playing got removed by the tech nerf and the cheat mode got introduced. Which is not what I was planning to be the new 'play as I want' mode... however, my playstyle got removed and all criticism was dismissed and i was even told that i needed to leave the game...not sure why this community would recover from that this soon... And the worst part of it is, that i WONT EVER consider the positive toxic supporters a part of 'my nms community any more' as far as I'm concentered, We go our separate ways from now on....

The new inventory was definitely a shock at first and it will take some time to sort through everything but after sorting out one of my ships I decided to put a few hours on my survival save and it felt great. I had my first ever in space death (and I'm creeping up on 2k hours) while fighting pirates in an asteroid field and it was awesome. I have to say, this is what I've been waiting for. When I first started playing NMS, I was hoping for the same feeling I used to get trying to stay alive way back in my Freelancer days but it has never felt like that until now. Before the update, I felt that once we sorted out our tech in our suit and ship, we were basically in God mode. The challenge wasn't there even in survival and Permadeath (where you're more likely to die from game glitches!). However, there are still plenty of bugs to sort out and some sort of heads up would have been nice so folk could prepare. I now welcome the changes and I'm fine with 3 upgrades per tech too. For me it's more fun now so it's all good. Just my opinion of course.

I spent hours and hours working on my ships and this new update just ruined it for me also there are no new game modes you just use the custom mode instead for me it’s a big disappointment. Well releasing untested updates is a specialty of HG! Most of them(millennial in house devs) think that they are the likes of Jon Carmack, having the same skills that would allow you to develop software on the fly and making it as flawless as it can be. However, most of them are sub par that and I venture a guess that this is what's causing the major issues after all updates. Lack of QA and having sub par hipster programmers that work on the updates.

For what it's worth: I work as a developer myself, and software QA is a really complex topic, it's not easy to cover everything (especially in complex systems like NMS) and it's best done by specialists - NOT developers! What's worse, finding and hiring excellent QA engineers is extremely hard. Everywhere I've ever worked has struggled to find good QA hires. It's not that dev teams don't care about testing releases or they're not embarrassed when bugs get shipped, it's that preventing that from happening is a much harder thing to do than you might appreciate. 🤷‍♂️

Personally I think its much to do about nothing. Its just different, you all sounding like a bunch of old people bitching about push button starts on cars. I am sure they didn't do all that work to change the inventory system for nothing. I sure they have plans for things in the future that needed the system overhauled. That is a hell of a lot of work for just changing how something looks. And when it comes to the upgrades i'm pretty meh about it over all. You didn't lose them so you can still used them on other ships. Yes I would like to get back to 6 but i'm not to bothered by it really.

Not a fan of the lack of tech now. A major bug has rendered my living ship almost useless, can barely find a place to land on planets in it, this does not affect my other ships. I do like the new graphics they have added, looks very sharp. Seems like for the 4.0 they could have done more rather than just screw up the tech and adding some graphics...

I personally hate the fact that you can switch difficulty on the fly. Now all we have are creative and permadeath modes, as normal and survival can be "tweaked" at any time, they're no different than creative. I don't want to play creative nor do I want to play permadeath, so HG just ousted me from the game completely.

My main gripe is releasing it on a Friday, so any (more) bugs aren't going to get worked on until next week. Not sure if it was by design, but the Weekend Event wasn't challenging, but having all your tech halved in power on many other missions would've been a bummer. I think they will let you have more than 3 upgrades per item in future - they did say that the 'level cap' was going to be increased. It's a bug imo that this isn't happening now, but yeah, how many of us will think 'great I'm going to have to grind another (insert your own time) to farm all those upgrades again - because you know they aren't going to be as good as they were. I also prefer the tab feature for inventory rather than scrolling, although I play on PC I use a controller. I'm sure the lack of access to pirate stations from bases and freighters will get fixed too, although I've lost on average 12-15 pirate staions on each save which is a real problem. Let's hope for fixes very soon.

Inventory issues are not that big a deal for explorer type players, which is HG's target audience. They might have not realized that doing so is basically cutting off grinder's legs and can be quite frustrating. HG devs always listen to feedbacks. Maybe they will get rid of the tech slot limits once and for all just like the Portal Interference(Anyone here still know what it was?)
