Lawrence, why did you lie? Sean Murray did say, when asked on multiple occasions, that you would be able to play with your friends. Now the rest of Funhaus sound like fools during the podcast for being misinformed. Spoole was right!
@goonsquad_official8 жыл бұрын
I don't think he lied, he just didn't know everything.
@skyblue27088 жыл бұрын
No, he said it's possible to see other players. Hoping for a journey like multiplayer experience. What we have is 1 example proving it might not be the case and people data mining and not finding anything multiplayer related. These guys are right, the vague nature of the gaming industry and this release in particular generates/generated so much hype based on speculation that the game just couldn't deliver. Now we have people saying "it didn't deliver what it promised" when all they really promised was a procedurally generated galaxy/universe to explore and discover, and that's exactly what we got.
@goonsquad_official8 жыл бұрын
Sky blue There is video of interviews Murray made where he said specifically that you can play with people, team up with them, grief other players if you wanted to, and so on and so forth. As the release date came closer, he began to back track on his statements by saying things like, "It is very unlikely that you will come across another player just based on the shear size of the universe/galaxy, but it may still happen." It kept on going on until he finally came out and said that No Man's Sky is not a MP game with the chances being nearly 0% of ever meeting someone else. Including the fact that they covered the game with stickers in order to block the MP logo to show the game includes this function. Essentially, all of this combined makes it look like a cover-up. Do I think people should be this outraged over this game? Not really, but I can understand why they are mad. Also, I'm not even including all the issues like crashing, little to no variety in terms of gameplay objectives, the price tag, the amount of unnecessary hype the game got, and many other issues. The ones I mentioned were the main ones.
@skyblue27088 жыл бұрын
wubba lubba Mentioning things they would like to add from what, interviews they did years ago? That's not how it works. Saying you'd like to do something or saying it will be in the game when that was the intention only to realise that they couldn't add it in isn't lying. Hell it wasn't even making a promise. I'm not in disagreement that the game was over hyped, it was but saying "WE WERE ALL LIED TO GAME DEVS ARE EVIL" based on shit said years ago is just bullshit. The only thing I would flat out say was a "lie" would be the multiplayer but as I've already stated, even that was vague and a huge point of contention amongst the people looking forward to the game. Seriously show me 1 game that has every feature the devs "promised" or stated they would like to add. As for the trailer, that's marketing. Flying in wings was never promised it was just seen in a trailer then boom, speculation. That's as simple as programming a flight path and following them, doesnt mean shit.

Waffles Syrup I think it's more of a loose metric than a strict rule. It's a way of gauging how far you can stretch your entertainment budget. Obviously it's a waste if you dump 20 hours into a game you hate, even if it was cheap. If you're not entertained the whole thing falls apart.

They admit they dont know much about No Mans Sky (besides Lawrence). Then they continue to make assumptions about the game and developer while ridiculing people who had expectations of the game and felt let down because the fans made too many assumptions. That being said, this podcast is good in taking one point and expanding upon it. While I wasn't that interested in them talking about No Mans Sky (admittedly because I dont play it), they transitioned into talking about early access games, false promises, and marketing the specifics of a game vs. making your marketing vague and letting people make assumptions.

***** i dont even care about multiplayer. im a student of games design and have been looking forward to this game for a while but even the aesthetics of the game witch are meant to be based on classic sci-fi books covers are a big let down compared to promotional videos shown at E3. narratively speaking there is no progression in the story really . their is nothing to keep the players wanting to keep playing . once you have seen the first star system you pretty much have seen them all. to say nothing about haveing to patch it twice at this point and each time it reset my game save. its just bad design .

developers are just aware how short of attention span we all have nowadays especially with how many games come out so the new business model is to release the game without all the content so they can "update" the game every few months which brings it back in the conversation and prolongs it's shelf life.

Not really "new". Mojang's been doing this with Minecraft since 2011. Latest update was released a month ago. After almost every update, I found old players going back to it, articles/videos being made about it, and more newbies hopping on the MC wagon, so it works (to some extent). They promised numerous features since Alpha, and not all were implemented before 1.0. In fact, a _lot_ of them weren't yet. There's a whole list of these "mentioned features" in the MC Wiki.

does the end result matter of they did research?
@ROBBIEDZ8 жыл бұрын
Yes. If Funhaus did their research they'd stop blaming gamers and show their viewers that Sean Murray is really the one that misled people. In this podcast, they say the gamers had too many expectations, implying that Sean Murray never said all the things he said would be in the game. If they don't tell the truth (with proper research) people will keep giving Sean Murray money.
@LITTLEFOOT9188 жыл бұрын
+RoBtheAuthentic That's why they say repeatedly, I'm sure from Adam, that you do your own research and come to your own conclusion. They're not wrong in saying the game was hyped and marketed in a misleading manner. The game was leaked, it needed a day 1 patch, it's not a complete game. From what was shown and given, what were people honestly expecting? Also note that right in the beginning of the show, they were misinformed with the slight exception of Lawrence. they're giving more insight to "hype" in triple A game titles. and they're not entirely wrong in that.

It's so weird listening to people like Jim Sterling and Total Biscuit talk about how three to four parties contributed to the overall disaster that was No Man's Sky's release, and how they looked at all the evidence that was presented. And then I watch these guys just sitting on a couch with no clue about the game going, "yeah, it's the consumer's fault for being such gullible sheep."

So a guy made a fun game and people started going "holy cow imagine if you can do..." and then suddenly it was believed that you can do xyz in the game. it's a fun game, and like minecraft, its just a thing, if people start modding it they can add all the bs they wanted in the game. but for now its just a fun, mindless exploring game. with cool visuals.

Its cool if you like it. People are just disappointed that the developers said things in past tense that were obviously never even planned for the game. "When he desired the possibility of green skies, the team had to redesign the periodic table to create atmospheric particles that would diffract light at just the right wavelength." - Sean Murray What? He says that like it already happened but that would literally require scrapping the whole engine they have and building another from the ground up.

Look, Funhaus gang, we need to talk about this whole "flying by the seat of our pants and not checking our facts" shtick you've been doing on this show recently. I get that you guys are busy people and have to get these done on a schedule, but hell, have one of the interns do a bunch of research for you beforehand and at least get some better talking points. A lot of factually incorrect stuff doesn't really make for an enjoyable podcast to listen to, because I don't get to hear your actual informed opinions on the matter. Like the podcast about CS:GO lotto, this is starting to seem like you guys don't really care that much, and if that's the case, then why bother making it? Why not just talk about something else?

DaemonicSavior these hour long podcasts aren't designed to be comedy shows. They're podcasts. And research taking a backseat to opinion is incredibly stupid and worthy of criticsm. Just because it's the "point", it doesn't make it any less annoying to watch.

I love this perfect mold you've created that a podcast must conform to. There is no "design" pal. It's an absolute romp of opinions. That is what all of there content is. How can you guys do a podcast when more than half of the panel are completely uninformed about the theme? This comes off (even more than usual) as Lawrence talking from experience and Adam is that guy complaining and counter-arguing when he has no idea of what he's talking about. Always taking the side of ''the audience is dumb'' It's hard to comment on this shows, I don't want to leave a thousand comments so I rather just edit. I agree with what James is saying about not being a Good or Evil case, but just because there's shades of grey doesn't mean one can't incline to the other side. ''Does the guy look like a money-grabing villain?'' Well does he look like a hero? Like anyone else I'm just guessing based on the info we were provived for this past months. And we can't ignore the fact that this game was presented on a TV talk-show. Anyone knows how that happened? Sure the guy is no villain because he didn't flatout lie, but it's kind of clear that he knew what he was letting people think. Call it good marketing... It sure was... but in my opinion that just helps the 'he's evil' argument.

There is 2 reasons NMS is getting such bad reviews. 1. People went in with unrealistic expectations 2. People want to fit in so they are saying what everyone else is saying.

It is so amazing how un-informed you guys are time and time again. Sean Murry explicitly stated that you would be able to meet other players in the game in multiple interviews and talk shows. How can you be so ignorant on the matter and then try and do an entire podcast on it? It's like doing a podcast on World War 2 and not even knowing why the German's are perceived as the bad guys.

I think this was recorded at least yesterday and a lot of these recently revelations about No Man's Sky have occurred in the past 24hrs. I just don't think they knew about it.
@evan41388 жыл бұрын
In the beginning, they specifically said that Lawrence was the only one to have played the game so almost all of what they were going to say was going to be uninformed. They're giving their view, the view of what people see from the outside, those people that know very little about the game and haven't been following news related to No Man's Sky. For not having played the game and not really been paying attention to news for the game, I think they did quite a good job talking about No Man's Sky.

Sean Murray was to No Mans Sky as Peter Molyneux was to [insert any Molyneux project here] If a person buys into unfounded hype and lets their imagine fill in the blanks they'll probably end up having a bad time.
@xxVincentHuffxxx8 жыл бұрын
It wasn't just the hype train going awry. It was Sean Murray promising and showing so much with the game that never made it into the final product. We never saw desert planets from worlds to close to the sun, having other people tell you how your character looks, factions, large space battles, and the list goes on for days from what Sean Murray showed us in gameplay videos and telling is out right will be in the game. Again yes there is no way No Man's Sky could live up to the hype it has been made up to, but still so much of the game shown and promised is just nonexistent.
