THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I know this video is a year old but it still helped. I've been playing NMS for months now. Graphics on high, game works fine. The recent (AUG 2023) update changed something and the game became super laggy / screen tearing / more or less unplayable. Some areas took a long time to fill in all objects - like the base part of my freighter. I tried a number of things and was almost ready to bail on the game. Had changed graphics to lowest setting, reduced resolution etc. Found this video. Normally I would make changes one at at time and test but this time I just followed your instructions cookbook. A couple of menus were slightly different - probably due to updates since you made the video - but I managed to find what I needed. Somewhere in the changes the game changed itself to Ultra for the graphics and I left it. Changed the resolution to match my display - 2560x1440. No more lag and the game looks better than it ever has. I am quite pleased. If I was playing PVP I might try tweaking / lowering graphics to get a tiny bit more speed but it is working well now so I'm letting it be. WIN 10 / RTX 2070 / i7-9700@3Ghz / 32 Gig RAM

One thing to keep in mind especially for the registry edits is when windows does a large update it may revert those edits back to the original values. This can also happen with the game bar and steam settings as well as Nvidia.

Fred, from windows start, type "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" from there, head to Advanced tab and select Processor scheduling to enhance for background services. For those experiencing stuttering issues, this will make a huge boost to performance for No Mans Sky.

Great tipps, BUT deleting the TEMP folder manually is actually risky. Happened to me 2 times that my system wouldn't boot anymore after that, even though I left everything important well alone. It's a tricky folder, depending on your setup. Better to clear it via the windows clean up tool, than manually. Otherwise, thank you A LOT! I don't even play NMS, but the registry tweaks sent me down a rabbithole that helped solved audiobugs (stutters, crackling, especially in VR) that I had for YEARS.

hey man i just wanted to mention a mistake you made. The FOV options dont really affect fps in any way its just increasing your field of vision. Awesome video and i also subbed really helped me

Normally if you increase FOV it does reduce fps,because it has to render more since you see more, at least how it is in fps games,I would assume same principle is applied in NMS.

@@SirRainis You are correct but everything behind which you cannot see is pre rendered and that pre render is not real time I assume, its already loaded and when you turn or increase your FOV it wont effect your FPS

So I played No Mans Sky a fair bit in 2020. I’ve got a i7 8700 and a rtx 2070 Super. Redownloaded the game yesterday and it seems like the game is stuttering like almost every other frame. Overall FPS is in the 90+ range but it’s extremely choppy. Vsync has no effect on stuttering when on or off. For the life of me I can’t figure this one out

What completely fixed the horrible stuttering for me was to set processor scheduling in Windows for best performance of background services and all of the stuttering vanished.

Hey, what graphics settings are you using for NMS? I have an i7-4790 and GTX 1080, 2x8GB DDR3-1600 (locked at CL11 with my motherboard), and even with everything just on enhanced and running the game from an NVME separate from my OS drive, I'm getting wicked pop-in textures at close range, stuttering, lagging, etc.

​@@terrapinflyer273that i7-4790 is pretty old, i think thats why, BUT u can try do experiment with the .ini file inside settings folder called "tkgraphicssettings" and find "highnumthreads" and "lownumthreads", change the high based on ur threads and ur low based on ur cores of ur cpu, it worked for me on ryzen 5 3600, cuz when i opened the .ini file the game set the wrong values which was 8x8 and my cpu is 6 cores 12 threads, i think ur cpu is 4x8, so u should set to that value

FYI "100" fov is not real 100 fov. It's more like 75 real horizontal fov so if you want true 90 fov you need to go into the config file and change the on-foot value from (what you currently have it set to) to somewhere in between 120-140 and in-flight value to 120-140

I'm running an Intel Alder Lake i3 12100f 4.3gHz with an AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT Dual OC, 16gb Corsair Vengeance RAM bla bla bla, I've recently got NMS and I find it runs very well but my fps never goes above 75. I have a 75Hz monitor with freesync so all my other games run at around 220 - 280fps on high settings. Hopefully this tutorial helps increase my performance playing NMS

When I open my NVIDIA Control Panel on the Manage 3d settings tab, after scrolling down, I see only Shader Cache Size and it doesn't have on/off. It dose however have Driver default, disabled, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 5Gb, 10GB, 100GB, Unlimited. In this chase should I just go with disabled?

You may need to see an Optometrist. His Affinity was also 0 as it should be. The Priority was 2 by default and according to Microsoft's documentation titled "Multimedia Class Scheduler Service" (Sorry, can't link. KZbin has always auto-deleted comments anytime I tried making a comment containing a URL.) it will still be treated as 2 even though he set it to 6: "For tasks with a Scheduling Category of High, this value is always treated as 2."

Incredible guide concise informative and very well structured went from 45-60 fps to 90-120 fps NMS running High to ultra on all settings except shadows and post processing as i run my own 3rd party post processing (Reshade) RIG: Asus TUF gaming OC 10gb and a Ryzen 2700x all overclocked no doubt this will improve other games performance too 10/10 Subbed!

can somebody help me. i fell in love with nomansky not long ago and i have the best available Lapotop (GPU/RAM/CPU....). I have problems with low FPS / FPS drops (from 2-60 FPS, most of the time 30ish) but my GPU/CPU/RAM are max 20% - 30% occupied. nothing is over 70 degrees celsius hot (absolute normal temperatures). These problems did only occurre recently. Graphic settings dont make a diffrence even if i switch from ultra settings + 4k to full HD + standart settings. i did everything in this vid and much more and cant figure out any solution. please help

Knew most of that but still i dont know where the problem is. I set the limit to 70 FPS and mostly i get that but especially on planets it loves lowering suddenly to even 20 FPS and it goes right back to 70... And my PC can run Star Citizen

the fps limit doesn't allow the framerate to go above this value, it's not what you think it doesn't mean the fps will always be 70 lol. what about fps drops, it's either due to the mechanics of procedural generation, or because Vulkan is worse than DirectX and it has poor optimization
