For future reference, this should be easily fixable with some copy and paste from the new vdf file to the old. At least for this particular case when the only thing that has changed is the SIAPI actions. Even if more significant changes are made, it's still probably faster to copy and paste. Unfortunately, Valve has made recent changes to the way controller config vdf files are stored. They haven't been stored in Steam\userdata\userid\config\controller_configs\apps since November, and Steam\userdata\userid\241100 emote\ hasn't been used to store temporary controller config vdf's since October. Fortunately, if you save the config as a local only config, it will still be stored in Steam\userdata\userid\241100 emote\controller_config\appid.

While there are work arounds and I intend to use them in the future, the average user should not be expected to hunt down and open up their configs in a text editor when there is a gui right there purpose built for customizing your controls. Diffing tools or whatever should be built into steam Input and automatic. The most anyone should struggle with this is "oh cool, new actions. I'll put them here. Done!".

@@Mennenth Oh, I completely agree you shouldn't need to do that. It should absolutely all be built into Steam Input, but knowing Valve I'm not holding my breath. I think the most realistic "solution" is probably a community made tool. It shouldn't be needed. But, at least for now, it is.

I don't know anything about the VDF file format but I would have hoped there would be a way to automate this process.
