4 weeks after this video came out: No Man's Sky now has SHIP CUSTOMIZATION. The space stations look actually extremely detailed and high tech instead of cheap lego toys, standing with an alien race affects prices, economy trading is deeper and frigate missions are no longer passive income and are instead something you have an active role now. Orbital is a pretty cool update indeed, and it's only Q1 of 2024. I'm so hyped to see what else HG has planned for NMS.

I also like NMS, but it feels like just a developer sandbox, where they started building a castle but never finished it. There's so many updates and new features, but nothing really fleshed out or deep. So many surface level things, but nothing you can dig deep into. Settlements, can't really do much after getting into the green. Yes people have made stuff to do, but it's surface level. Can't really upgrade Settlements, NPCs actually do nothing and is just as good as ground clutter. It's sad because some of the features have potential.

For me, No Man's Sky is good because of its tech. The promise to seamlessly explore an infinite amount of places is extremely alluring and comes closest to what I want in a space game. I could go for a slightly more serious, more detailed experience though. My ideal space game is one where you can hop into your ship, take off a planet or space station, set a course for the autopilot, get out of your captain's chair and walk around inside your spaceship fixing things, taking inventory, planning upgrades, taking space walks all the while having to manage your resources so you could reach a far distant destination without getting into trouble. It would help if it was a bit easier than Space Engineers. I'd like to explore space without having to learn how to design and craft absolutely every screw and bolt in a space ship from scratch. This is why I'm excited about games like Star Trucker. It might just be the game that achieves all of my dreams. We'll have to see.

They only need to add a couple things to make it a masterpiece depth to everything besides building maybe add more variety there but like freighter battles giving your fleet orders on how to attack before you enter combat, civilizations on planets like the settlements you find but way more depth npc's that have dialogue and speaking of the settlements some depth for that real issues consequences visual affects that could tie into other civilizations on the planets a moral system they could tie this into the race reputation where they will attack you or drive prices up against you etc. What they need most of all is to fill those empty planets maybe put some reward at the end of caves more enemies larger creatures like the titan worm

No Man's Sky is my walking simulator. There's little depth to any of the systems or combat. Building is okay. What it has is endless terrain to wander, to climb hills to see what's on the other side, admire the views, and occasionally interact with things you find.

You're wrong about one thing. Building. Using common and simple glitch building techniques expands your options of what to build to near limitless extents. Placing things where they aren't supposed to be placed, at sizes and angles they shouldn't be placed at, merged with other building pieces allows for some truly amazing bases.

@@austinstoner6270 No it should most definitely not lol, some glitch building techniques can completely break the game if you don't use them right. We should have had a more expansive building system, sure, but the full expanse of glitch building techniques should not all be made legitimate. And thats part of the fun, building under the map with wire-gltiched ladders to create oversized biodomes that look like cool houses when you're not technically supposed to adds to the fun.

It’s a great game, but I wish it had more depth, variations. Imagine landing on a planet at war and being immersed into a helldivers type war with the aliens on the planet. Imagine this kind of battle on some random planets in the system. Would really put the weapons and ship combat to use then. The game needs variation and the planets in the systems need more history. Hello games should give players tools to add lore for planets and systems, it will add some depth.

I played after Waypoint for about 100 hours or so, probably more. Still could not get my FPS up to, much less above, a constant 60 FPS, which would have been fucking nice. But, it was not. And my rig should have been enough were it not for the obviously poor optimization that makes almost all movement, between 20-40 FPS almost unbearable. And even with the alleged added variation in the procedural generation, everything still felt samey. No real depth to anything. The whole settlement thing looked promising at first, but quickly proved itself to be laughably nearly useless and not worth investing more time in than the tutorial part. The rewards are less than pocket change. By the time I even got to the point where I was getting some income and resources from my settlement, I could literally do the still useful quick/melee and jetpack combo in any direction, collect a few things within a 100 units of me, and get more stuff and several times the credits for a single damn scan of fauna or flora, in half a minute. The biggest problem with the procedural generation is that it does not randomize the layouts and location of loot. They are always the same for ruins, crashed freighters, abandoned buildings...etc. everything. And you still never have a sense of true discovery, of being the first, as you are never really the first to discover any planet. Every one of them, except maybe the weirdest anomaly types, is littered with posts, cargo pods, beacons, whatever. It is actually annoying.

I honestly want to play NMS again but I'm halted by the fact that I have maxed my module count for building things, and I'm reluctant to look at the still barely touched features they've added over the years. Still no ship customization, still next to nothing for vehicles not even a story line for anything but the Nautilus which you don't really use all that often, base building modules still bland and limited, especially power generation, the capital ships overall... I was going to say the derelicts, but other than being very few scenarios, the derelicts are pretty good overall. I just wish they'd thought out the tools and weapons a bit more and scaled them better because even with max possible upgrades they still felt like spitwads. Anyway, my last experience with NMS was one of it being more fleshed out than the old days, they'd just released Expeditions, and I was upset because it was yet more new stuff on top of old barely touched stuff. Like Living Ships, I went through that entire chain and ended up with something that sits in my carrier hangar bay forever now, unused because it's inferior to even my cargo ship. But, I will be honest, I can overlook all of that again if they simply expand the base building limits, which were reached because of all the god damn solar panels and batteries I had to build just to power a light switch. Also the lights don't work without a mod to turn them into actual lights instead of just a paint prop. Thanks, Hello Games!
@WhiteGinger10000
@WhiteGinger10000 7 ай бұрын
I hardly use solar power anymore once I unlocked the electromagnetic generator. And they have kept in the bug that lets you extend out your building limits in a narrow line. Allows you to find a good power hotspot without needing to plane your base to be right on top of it.

Really awesome game I just wish the various mechanics had more depth. The various locations are also greatly lacking in variety oddly enough, they're just vaguely reskinned settings with slightly different hazards and flora/fauna. Imo smaller hand crafted environments and assets with more personal attention is better than infinite randomly generated ones that feel mostly empty and without purpose.

i started playjng this on nintendo switch 4 days ago, it runs well enough for me to enjoy, but theres 2 issue i have. one is when i shoot a starship down, the explosion causes my switches audio to cut out. i think its dock related because i can pull it out of the dock and the audio works and putting it back in and it works again. the second issue is farming ore, the terrain doesnt seem to change much, i cant tell of its a glitch or if the swith is too slow to calculate the changes in realtime, but when im digging for relics i sometimes get stuck because its not removing ground. i do own a privelege face mask and so im thinking i could play this in vr with dumbed down settings because i dont really care if the graphics are lower, they will be better than switch automatically, and it would be fun sitting in the cockpit. im already past the motion sickness thing i had back on PSVR 1

the thing that keeps turning me off of NMS is hello games' refusal to actually fix bugs, like, ever. Mining laser overheating in under 0.5 seconds, making it useless for mining? just call it "phase beam" and pretend it's intended. Boosting into space stations while making tight turns causing you to clip through the station's geometry? just make it so you can't turn and boost at the same time, ruining space combat. jetpack bash boosting letting people cover ridiculous distances in minutes, rather than hours? just reduce jetpack fuel by 99% so your jetpack is now useless. jetpacking over the freighter telepad softlocking you? just make the hitbox smaller, instead of fixing the actual issue that is relative teleportation, where if you're jumping while hitting the trigger, you'll end up hovering over the destination. people complain about the game being too casual? we'll just add a mode that has you spawn on a 10 minute death timer, a 15-minute walk away from your spaceship, and re-spawn you in that scenario every time you die for any reason. losing hours of progress because the biological horror thingies push the player around and walk through walls, making it trivial for them to softlock you, and teleporting from your base to space stations, and back doesn't autosave? well, screw you i guess. we need a control scheme in VR, you know what, we won't use the VR's controller to steer the ship, but, instead we'll have you use the VR controller to grab an imaginary joystick, so you can vomit your guts out because you get stuck in a spin the moment you take off, since your spaceship is absolutely impossible to control. No man's sky is good for a few hours until you rage-delete for still, almost 8 years after release, refusing to fix the most basic issues plaguing the gameplay since day one, and adding more ways for the game to be broken with each new patch... And no, this is not the "haha funny" type of broken that cyberpunk 2077 had, it's Hello games continuing to take regularly scheduled dumpies in the mouth of their players and yet somehow people love the game now... i guess these are the same people that think apple is a consumer-friendly company 🦐 oh, and don't get me started on how NMS "star systems" are a cube (skybox) with a few spheres dotted in the center - where the star is painted on one of the walls of the cube.

The answer is; sure. If you have pilot-itch that needs scratching, or if you're looking for hard sci-fi, you're gonna be disappointed. No Man's Sky is very stylized and absolutely hates pilots with agency. But other than that, this game is not only absolutely fucking excellent, but it continues to surprise us with regular and very robust and interesting updates. It's a nice universe to get lost in and playing this in VR is the shit.
