It really hurt watching Shownu with GOT7. We often hear about idols who used to train with other idols at a different company, but rarely do we get to see such intimate interactions like this. I didn't think too much of it when Shownu said he had trained with Miss A and GOT7 members, because like I said, we hear about things like that all the time. But when he actually up with them, and said things like, "Yugyeomie has gotten so tall" really drove home how long he must have practiced with them, only to have to watch them debut without him. Although it's sad he had to go through that, I'm happy he was finally able to debut with Monsta X. Monsta X wouldn't be the same without him and he wouldn't be who he is today without all the experiences he's had.

I really hate 'trainees fighting to debut' show concepts like these because i feel like the producers/judges make the trainees do/feel unnecessary things usually to add more drama to the show, intentionally making the trainees feel emotional and often times make them feel crap. BUT i will watch it because i want to know more about monsta x and how they started. Every time I watch No Mercy again, I understand more and more why Monsta X is the only group I've ever stanned in K-pop. There's really no other group with an origin story exactly like this. Several other groups were also formed through survival shows, but No Mercy in particular was _brutal_ for the trainees, especially since most of them were older and this was their last chance to break into the industry (Shownu and Wonho in particular kept saying they were getting too old to debut). On other shows, judges told trainees to work hard and do their best. On this show, judges kept telling trainees that they weren't good enough and would fail. On other shows, the twist would be to bring back eliminated candidates for one last shot at another round. On this show, the twist was throwing a completely new candidate (I.M) into the running halfway through the program without letting him or the others know what was happening. To this day, even though he knows how much his members love him, Changkyun still has some lingering trauma from his experience in No Mercy. ... Not to mention Monsta X having to go through another traumatic event _again_ in 2019 with Wonho sacrificing his place in the group to protect his members from the BS allegations against him (of which he was later cleared by their legal system). And now, after No Mercy, after their first music show win in Dramarama era, after achieving global recognition between Jealousy and Alligator eras, all these accomplishments together as close friends and brothers... now MX isn't even allowed to mention Wonho by name and vice versa. All seven will never be together on camera again, they can't even be seen in public together off work, Minhyuk as an MC for Inkigayo wasn't allowed to introduce Wonho for his solo comeback, and Wonho wasn't allowed to go with the rest of MX to see Shownu off for his military enlistment. And yet, Monsta X and Wonho still keep going for their fans despite what the industry and the culture have put them through. So for any new Monbebe stanning Monsta X (and/or Wenee stanning Wonho) for the first time, just know that all seven of these men will put their fans and each other above themselves no matter how many times they're knocked down. They truly exemplify the term "idol."
