I am making my own "depron" cutting blue foam in sheets with hot wire over a table, separated 5 mm from the surface and it works great
@F3HDemonDriver18 жыл бұрын
Great idea Eduardo! Nothing like being your own supplier.
@my_dear_friend_11 ай бұрын
And you can get XPS foam in light gray and dark gray now. Lowes sells green. The gray foam hot wire cuts beautifully and glues really well with Ponal Wasserfest (if you can get it). Harbor Freight sells a waterproof, clear drying wood glue that also works.

We can still get it in the UK, the only difference is that they don't hand pick the flatter sheets for model makers. as a result they are often slightly curved. This isn't a problem as it is easy to flatten. Made loads of jets with curvy depron - NO PROBLEM!! great stuff!

I'm Glad you can still get it in the UK Craig, but for us Yanks I wanted to show builders in North America that there are still foams we can buy here.

Where you heard that? Here in Switzerland (neighbour from Austria and Germany) we have Depron in every Store, and many other brands. They advertise depron on google. I read the basic material is made in rolls before "extrude" this and make the "plates". But in forums they speak since 2010 they sell not so much because the other brands are cheaper. We have "Kapa Line", "XPS", "Selitac", "Normaplan" Some are made for insulating floors and some have lines or squares and are not flat like Depron. I dont like the lines, i have bought many different products to test. We have FoamBoard, i ordered a big amount but they are a lot heavier then advertised 5mm thick 1 square meter is 510gramms! But they write 120g!
@F3HDemonDriver18 жыл бұрын
Sir, I don't live in Switzerland. . . Here in the United States a company called RCFOAM-dot-com would buy Depron made by Selit Corp in Austria and would import it into the U.S. Selit halted manufacturing of Depron plates and only makes rolls or depron for flooring and floor paneling. Please remember I don't live in Europe & buying European made foam is Insanely expensive to have it shipped to the U.S.

+VTOLKits. _Where do you get your Depron?_ I used to live in Bern and is living near Lucerne. In Migros, Bauhaus and OBI I only see normal "styrofoam" and XPS. In Bern there was a shop that sold Kapa foamboard but it is a tad bit heavy. Depron I can only get from www.swiss-composite.ch/
@VTOLKits8 жыл бұрын
@SsoulBlade I live also in Bern. The cheapest i found in switzerland is: www.swiss-composite.ch From 5.70 sFr. Or the most RC stores have this but they want somtimes up to 26 sFr. per plate and they have most time only one plate in the store.

I'll pop up there on the weekend and get the prices I am sure it was around £7 for a box of 10 large sheets like in your video very cheap I have a few sheets in the attic (loft) I made a glider out of the stuff few years ago. If I can get manufactures details I buzz them a email.

Went down to wickes the diy shop. They had similar stuff I used before. Only difference it's black and ribbed around a quarter of a millimetre on one side if that. Could be seen as a negative but i think you can use them ribs for curving nice round tubes and using it as a strong grain otherside if perfectly flat. The company is wesco here is the link

@@vasili1207 Its not Depron at BQ and Wiks , its a similar foam, but not as good as Depron. There are lots of products that claim to be Depron, but Depron was made / is made in Germany. My own store still has the grey sheets and we are working on getting white again

I use a LOT of Foamular- Owens Corning pink fanfold foam. It too is hard to find so I bought 5 bales on Craigslist. I also use a lot of dollar store Adams foam. I can’t justify Depron’s cost for all the impulsive building I do. I buy hot glue by the case on eBay too.
@rickster-fpv18186 жыл бұрын
Sure, there are other foams. I already build Adams foam board planes, and EPP planes. But nothing can replace Depron. In 6mm Its stiffness, and light weight cannot be matched. Im still flying a Rc powers Mig29 I made of depron. I always worry about crashing it. Depron is brittle and does not crash well.

@@hauwasamuel4213 Dollar Tree is a store in the US that sells stuff for $1 or less. Usually the quality of most of their products are as you can imagine, dirt cheap and disposable. But of course thin sheets of foam is dirt cheap anywhere so in actuality, you may end up paying more for it than say getting it from Walmart.

OK I don't know squat about foams and the different types of foams. For example some are thin and flexible and can be used to cover curved surfaces while others are stiff/ rigid and would be great for support pieces etc. I'm a beginner RC plane builder and want to start using foam but don't have a lot of $$$ to waste. I need a foam beginners course on how to identify the differences in foam and what the good types are for RC plane building. Hoping someone can direct me or explain the differences. Much appreciated.

I see no 1mm depron there Greg, which is the only size I buy since there are cheaper alternatives just as good in larger sizes. Guess I gotta figure some other material for my lightweight wings upper surfaces. Just another reason to hate 2020.
@brettskinner74024 жыл бұрын
Forgot to add by the way. If you want the ultimate graceful light plane - make a hollow wing with paper removed dollar tree on bottom, simple foam spar at peak- 1mm depron upper... try it and quit being lazy it's not hard...You'll NEVER go back to heavier solid wings or the un-graceful kline fogelman stuff.

Which btw is impossible to get...as I noted above... guess I'll stick with simple undercambered plates.

Is the Lowes flat fold foam heavy compared to depron or the hobby store foam?
@F3HDemonDriver18 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy! Are you taking about the white styrofoam insulation sheet sold at Lowe's? If you are I would say it's lighter than comparable width depron, white styrofoam is the lightest foam you can buy, depron is super smooth and made in different thicknesses. But the insulation styrofoam at Lowe's is great and I buy it all the time Sir.

I just put my motor off of a Starmax 1600mm p51 mustang into my World Models Sky Raider Mach 2. For the fun of it I left the 14" 4 blade prop on just for run up...omg I think it would just break up if I flew it with that. Your 747 is going to be awesome I'm sure!
