I bought small kiddie pools feom the dollar store and put a few holes about 2 inches up from the bottom and put my grow bags inside them. I just fill the kiddie pools up twice a week and everything is growing wonderfully. Thought this might help someone.💜 happy growing 💜

I did this same thing last year but used huge flower pots. It worked great until the pool was so nasty with leaves and algae. My plants grew great though.. I didn't pull out the pool this year but will bring the pool back out next year. Thank you for sharing.

Great idea. My solution was to wrap plastic wrap around the fabric pots. It basically wrap about 4 times, centered in the middle of the pot area. Just sharing info, be well.

I plant directly in the milk crates, no bags needed. The aluminum pans are a nice touch.
@FraylyFarmMiniHomestead5 ай бұрын
Just curious, do you line your milk crates with landscape paper? If not, does your soul leak out?
@slaplapdog5 ай бұрын
@@FraylyFarmMiniHomestead Nope, no lining at all. Very little if any leakage. The soil has enough cohesion to stay put.

Yes I noticed that this year… they dry out so fast!

This will be a great way to prevent that issue. Thank you for watching.

Last year I used a kiddie pool and placed my pots inside it. Just be sure to drill a few holes about 2 inches from the bottom to allow it to drain the excess water out

Thanks for sharing this video. I use those clear liners you put under your pots. . I like the crate idea. My plants are taking a hit too. This heat is something else. Happy gardening

I gave up on unlined grow bags for multiple reasons. They dry out way too fast, a waste of water. Annual plants do not need air pruning. Trees that could benefit from air pruning are hard to move in grow bags. I prefer plastic pots for trees as they hold the moisture in and are easier to move. Dry roots is more of an issue than wet roots for dryer climates. If you use a mineral based soil, root rot isn't a issue in pots. If they get root bound, it's time to either plant in ground or up-pot. An alternative to grow bags is lined grow bags but they cost more.

For sure. I saw some sort of earth bag that had a water chamber on the bottom. It cost $$$ too. I try to do things the frugal cheap (cost effective and affordable) route. I would be in the poor house trying to buy those expensive things.

I put a plastic bag with cardboard in the bottom inside the grow bag. As hot as it's been, I'm not the least bit concerned about "standing" water. Tried lining the grow bag with cardboard, thought it might retain some water-NOPE. Heat here in Southern Pa cooks those bags. I have found the square bags to be the most space efficient.

That was definitely a good try though. We learn the best from trial and error.

Grow bags are meant for wicking bases

Add coco peat type things in the soil mix so they dont dry

I'd be concerned that they don't get proper drainage though if they need. No?

You can also place a hole about 1-2" from the bottom to allow the water to escape faster.

I hope the plant doesnt absorb any of the aluminum…
