Welcome to the “I’m human and stuff happens” club, lots of members here. Also remember so many times in the past when what you thought or wanted for the plan didn’t happen when you wanted. But ultimately what God wanted for you did happen! We’re told in the Bible to pray as Jesus did asking “not my will but yours be done”. I also include, and in your time. Love your intent and content, whenever you are able and God allows! 🙏💕

Dear Miah, From your talk it sounds like you are looking for perfection in your videos. In reality people, including myself, want to hang out and see what you are doing on your farm and with your family. Every day work is not perfect and I enjoy watching normal people doing normal stuff and not the perfect way. You be you and everything will work out! Even if the camera is on with commentary later. It is a joy watching you work and play with your boys!

100% agree with this comment! I also believe you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself bc with your military background and ocd I feel like you like routine…I think as soon as you figure out how to fit that camera into your routine without it having to be a chore you will feel so much better about it. Maybe just start videoing what you would like to teach us how to do and maybe do a voiceover on the video explaining it if you don’t actually have time to do whatever it is you are doing and not having time to explain what you’re doing. Glad to have you back!

@@brandygaddy7429 I so agree. Miah, do what you are comfortable doing. I just want to remind you that the most important (and part I struggle with as well) part of stumbling like this is not that you stumble, but getting back up and manfully facing both that you have stumbled and continue working on not making the same mistake. You and Jess have a huge network, both in your real community, and here online that are pulling for you and your family to succeed. Its good to see the struggle too. I know it sucks to be in the struggle, but just remember, this too shall pass.

I would much rather see someone doing something. Engaging with Toby is way more important in the long run than making a video. I think as humans we put way more pressure on ourselves than anyone else ever could. Delete comments and stop giving people that much room in your head. First you're way harder on yourself than you need to be. We're all here just tickled to get another video from you no matter how long between videos. Nobody that matters is judging you. Take your time and find your groove. Second these unplanned chat videos are usually my favorite. They speak to people's hearts which is more important than really any instructional video. My best laid plans seem to fall away so easily. I've quit more times than I can count and it's so hard for me to keep pushing forward. So this raw video encourages me so much!! Yeah bc what we are attracted to is the authenticity. Nothing more. Nothing less. Best way to keep it simple, say to yourself, "is this authentic "? If yes, post. If not delete. Lol. We genuinely love your whole family and need very little to be interested or entertained. The number 1 thing u guys got is that. Genuine and authentic human beings having a heart felt human experience with as much spirituality thrown in there as possible. That's a whole other thing you have not taken the time to do but addressing your faith up front would be a good idea. And creating your own devotionals semi regularly (pr at least when u r called to speak on something) would be really good too. Again just throwing content ideas out to see what sticks. But I really am on the edge of my seat waiting for this next update now. N if I gotta wait month or 3 for the next one I'm gonna come back to ur videos and start commenting daily 😂 requesting my update. Showing pictures of my nails as I bite each one off shorter and shorter waiting to hear from you. Now I feel challenged to hold u accountable for this consistent posting. I never intended for u to feel challenged either but cheers. Let's ride.

Something that I often say on Jessica’s videos is that, for me, the best part of the videos is the “thinking”, the decision-making, the problem-solving, etc So if life gives you lemons make videos of what you are going to do with the lemons. Trees blocking the way? Share the “pivoting”, the next steps - all this is powerful teaching opportunities
@annbolandloveslifeАй бұрын
YAY! Thank you for your honesty. Here are the videos I would love to see: Raw, uncut and real. I don't always need music, editing or perfection to enjoy a video. Maybe even a "live" with "hey, we are heading to set up a deer stand....let's see what we encounter. " Or, 'hey, we just encountered a hurricane, let's assess the land and see what needs to be cleared." Second, I love the idea about generator video. Could you do one about building an outhouse? I know I am not the only one that wants to know how you all "bathroomed" during 7 days of power outage. I know Jess said that was something she'd thought about having for future in the event of power outages. Next, how about a "father/son" build of some sort? Next, you poured concrete for your workshop (or whatever it is called), how about a video of next steps and dreams about it? It's fun to hear people's dreams about their next build. What about a "day in the life of Miah" on the farm. These are just suggestions. I like your videos, so I am sticking around whether they are "KZbin perfect" or not.

OK. So as soon as you started talking about the trouble getting the videos done, I was reminded of one of Jess's devotionals. It's the "What is that in your hand?" one. She says right at the beginning that she came out to shoot one video but kept having trouble. Then realized she was just trying to shoot the wrong video. It's one of my favorites for when I need that step in the right direction. Perhaps the reason the plan hasn't worked is because you've been trying to shoot the wrong videos. Remember what you used to (and idk perhaps still do) tell Jess.... Just pick up the camera and chat with your friends. That's why I'm here. Sometimes you'll have great practical knowledge of how to do different jobs like building your workshop or clearing the trees. Sometimes you'll have farm chores and how you troubleshoot. Sometimes, the right video is exactly like this one. Sharing your struggles and what you hope to accomplish from the other side of facing them. Even if you don't fully succeed in that endeavor, it's ok. Because we are here for you. We enjoy what you have to say. We enjoy the work you do. I can't wait to see what projects you have for us whenever you are able to share them. I love watching you create things with your hands as much as I love watching your amazing wife share her gift of life in the garden. Most of all, I love when you both share your truest heart. It's what makes the two of you who you are, and I am eternally grateful that God called you to all of us. Blessed be, and be sure you're shooting the RIGHT video! lol💖

My dude - there's a difference between reasons and excuses, these don't sound like excuses me. But also, prep is part of doing, so sharing videos of the prep that's involved is real and also could be important. And this is why I follow Jess despite being a city dweller who never has an expectation of having a plot of land big enough to grow more than fresh eating veg, she shares the prep and the mental work involved and those parts are applicable across all areas of life, not just the thing she & you all are doing. Give yourself a break from expecting yourself to do it perfectly "right"

I just enjoy getting to know you guys through y’all’s videos. And truth be told, I enjoy the videos most where ya’ll just sit down and have a heartfelt chat, much like these. I enjoy learning also, but you and Jess have such a huge impact on not only my life, but thousands of others because of your hearts. Give yourself grace, because I’d guess 95% of people will do the same. If a week doesn’t go as planned and you don’t get a video out, no sweat. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Get back up, and keep going. I’m preaching to the choir here because I struggle with this concept, too. But God gives us grace, we should also give ourselves grace. But we know what we are capable of and like your wife just said in her last video, discomfort equals growth. I think setting a schedule is good. Just turn the camera on and be vulnerable and tell us what’s on your heart if you don’t have anything in particular to teach us. We love any content you come up with. I’m glad you’re back and looking forward to any and all content you post. All my love to all of the Sowards ❤

🇦🇺But was it a road block or was it a learning lesson on life. The unexpected and how we react and learning to reassess what to do next. Sometimes we have our plans but God wants something different. I’ve had health issues since age 12 and have had 21 surgeries, I’ve had 5 pregnancies and 4 children, my third pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, my 4th pregnancy I was having twins but one of the babies died at 6 months. My first born Benjamin died at 10 1/2 years old. My husband of 8 years stopped going to Church. After another 4 years he came back to the Lord. After 31 years of marriage he decided he didn’t want to be married. Life happens, it’s our response to these events that show who we are. When we believe God is in control and know everything works out for good, it helps our heart. One day we will have answers, when we meet him in the clouds. Until then we simply trust Him.

But we are here praying and dreaming for them, the least he can do is give us a clear vision for his dream. 😂 with love of course. This year, I couldn't get any projects tackled because of my own mindset. But now, I'm out in my ¼ acre city lot tanning deer hides for the first time. I felt a calling to pursue my goals, so I followed it and God put the rest into action. My nephews harvested deer, they were going to discard the hides and my sister said, "Take them for practice." So this is my applaud to you for posting and giving a great resource for encouragement, guidance and vulnerability.

Your videos are great, even for a single, 63 year old woman with a tiny yard garden and 3 chickens, and no plan for anything bigger. It helps me learn for projects I might do to improve my corner of heaven, and your authenticity supports me to be a human and love myself (and my neighbors) even when I fail.

It’s not how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up. You’ve got this, Miah.

You talk about this like you’re falling off the wagon of addiction. You’re an adult with a bunch of responsibilities and shit happens generally as long as your wife keeps her posting schedule you are really just the cherry on top and that’s a compliment like the original comment said we are happy with whatever you put out regardless of your consistency because we know you do all the things behind the scenes, so we know it’s not like you left your family for two weeks to go on a vacation by yourself in Cabo, you had a hurricane and a sick kid anyone would be out of work for a couple of days.

My grandma always told me the older we get the faster time flies. It's called adulting. We get sidetracked by life's little ups and downs. None of us are perfect so dont beat yourself up over it. All any of us can do is our best and go on frm there. You are a wonderful husband and dad wich is more far important than KZbin. We will be around.

No plan survives first contact. Adaptability is the biggest and best lesson we can model for each other and our children. You are doing great. If the world could slow down the "opportunities " to model this, I think we could all use a breather, though.

Watching Jessica's videos you both gave us so much inspiration to start homesteading. I asked you on a live stream about 18 months ago about property, we purchased the 13 acres and moved in July last year. An old run down house that was vacant for the better part of 10 years. Youve inspired many, that it's not to late to start. We appreciate ANY content

Miah, 🙏🏻We love your content. Its true, honest and real.. fall down 7 times get up 8 👌Looking forward to ANY video you put up. 5 mins, 10 mins.. Even if its just driving around checking on the farm.. It doesn't always need to be an in depth project.. We are here for you whenever you are. Always👍

Thankyou for being real and honest. You do wear a lot of hats. Your life with Christ is first and your children and family are the most important in your life. You are putting your best foot forward to shoot the videos. Detour to show him how to use a saw and being calm and problem solving. That was teaching him how you handled the situation. Forget the stress about the video and use those teaching moments. Most kids cannot problem solve when they are in situations. It’s good to see that you have a nurturing side as a father. My nephew has a very nurturing character with his kids and they are teenagers now. Kids grow fast take every teachable moment you get to teach them in a positive way. The camera is there all the time and will watch when you can post. No Stress. Blessings on your family. I love yours and Jessica’s channel because it’s wholesome, your real and positive. Leave the negative comments off the air. That only encourages wrong behavior in people and it’s like fueling the wrong fire. Thank you for being honest. Honesty is very rare in the world we live in.

my brother, I appreciate The fact that you are unashamed of the gospel. as a girl dad working 40 plus hours and coaching softball with acres to maintain and a garden I couldn't imagine trying to do content on top of it. some people are busy some are not but I've learned the one thing my kids want more is my time and not money. give all the time you can brother cuz that's one thing you cannot buy. we are all just stumbling towards Jesus trying to live the best life we can. Don't beat yourself up. Love you brother keep it up

The enemy will try to exhaust you and wear you down… He is nowhere near your strength and authority in Christ. Bless you, Miah and I pray that you keep moving forward and I know you are a great man of God who’s gonna give wonderful advice, content, and working knowledge that people can put use in their lives. And this is why he wants to silence your voice.

Welcome back… resilience and to endure. Thanks for the reminders to get back up and get back in the fight always pressing towards the mark. Gods wants us and our hearts and to cleanse in ways we couldn’t ever imagine especially before the crushing or the fire. What a mighty God we serve that he would be mindful is us. He is our strength and our all. May we each be reminded and encouraged to continue running the race. 💕 Hugs Jess for me. I doubt I’ll ever get to meet y’all this side of heaven but until that day keep pressing forward.

I really want to know what my comment was now. But you should make a commitment to drag a camera around with u all over and record daily or nearly evey single day. Those aren't road blocks they are content but u will get there. Just dont give up. So excited to see this bc this is what ur content is mean tto be like u riding around doing stuff. Sometimes with a kid, sometimes on a horse, and sometimes a drone footage. U earth sign people bear the weight of all the rest of the signs bc the rest of the elements land on the earth. And u r being real that's all u need to do. Just record excess and then you can schedule out ahead and you dont gotta explain squat. But i always thought there should be a men at work video channel for the women 😂😂 just the facts we don't need corn 😂just a man building a raised bed for his wife. Seriously oh and any mechanic work is absolutely a personal favorite. P.s. my name is Max-an Benfield on Fb friends of roots and refuge group too BTW.

Oh sweet Miah!! First off, thank you for your service 🫡. I’m a single Marine mom and I too become so overwhelmed and discouraged and you just think Lord not again! But I have found that when we pray for patience, God gives us something to be patient about, when we ask for strength he puts us in situations that would break us. I have learned so much from you and Jess and because of you and Jess I have built my own raised bed garden, build a chicken coop, build a floating deck for a mini greenhouse and have so much more planned. Just keep being yourselves, the good the bad and the ugly because we love you for it! Also remember that those who truly care and love us and see the value in us are the ones to call us on our 💩, no sugar coating! Because those are the ones that will continue to push us to greatness!! Semper Fi

Thanks Miah! To post or not post is not really about personal preference. I've personally set lots of goals over my 71+ years on God's earth. I've personally allowed many of those goals fall to the wayside. I get where you're coming from. You recognize what's holding you back and keeping you from accomplishing what you intended. Maybe instead of twice per week, Monday & Thursday, the goal should be once per week. You're a very responsible guy and a very focused guy. However, life is made for living. That means we tend to over- complicate it and fail to keep the important things...the important things. I'm praying for you and supporting you in your resolve to do the posting. If you find you cannot meet the two per week goal...well it's okay. I'll paraphrase an old saying I've heard all my life as it applies to your goal..."no one on their death bed ever said I wish I'd spent more time making content". One of my favorite sayings is "IIWII" "It Is What It Is" or as Yoda would say "Do or Do Not There Is No Try". I know you can do whatever you set your mind to do. So, go with Yahweh's leading and guidance and you can never go wrong. ❤

Thank you for being real! You are a “man’s man” as they say, but real men have feelings and struggles and experience successes and failures but it does not diminish who they are. It’s so hard to come to grips with who we are and accepting our strengths and weaknesses but you and Jess have done this in a very public forum. All while teaching us to be self-sufficient. I admire and respect you both for your continued transparency and willingness to press in and press on in the midst of it all. This summer has been a crushing summer for many, but God is still on the throne and when I see others taking time to acknowledge that, and recognize how much they needed Him to get through the crushing seasons, it makes me feel like I’m not alone… anyway, thank you Miah, thank you Jess, you continue to be a blessing in the good times and the bad and God will bless you for your faithfulness.
